London brand store opening in two weeks

  • London brand store opening in two weeks

Posted by Huw, 05 Nov 2010 17:42. Filed under Shopping (UK).

I know it's virtually an everyday event in the USA, but the opening of a new brand store on the other side of the Atlantic is big news.

The London store, at the Westfield Shopping Centre, will be opening on November 18th, that's just a few weeks away! There's no word yet on whether there'll be an exclusive opening set, which are usually available for the first 300 visitors, but I'd put money on there being one.

     Thanks onabrud for the news!

EDIT: We've heard that the two new UK stores will be having so-called "soft openings" before Christmas; the official opening events will be delayed until sometime early in the New Year, so no t-shirt give-aways, building events or 'grand opening' sets until after Christmas. So just to reiterate, the stores *will* be opening mid-November (Westfield) & early-December (Cardiff), but the official 'Grand Opening' events will be in early 2011.

Cool for England!

Congrats London! And I won't say anything about the fact that the Netherlands has 0 Lego brand stores. Good things come to those who wait they say.

Why can't we have one up north? All we've got is the LDC which is rubbish.

Yes there is a 'Grand Opening' set for Westfield, and also for the new Cardiff store, which I've been told is opening two weeks after the Westfield store. Both 'Grand Opening' sets are themed to their location. As with the other recent store openings, the 'Grand Opening' sets will be given to the customers who first spend over a certain limit, usually $35US for the US stores, on one of the three days of the official opening weekend; it usually isn't the first day the store is actually open. I don't know what the minimum spend will be for the UK openings, but it will probably be in the region of £25UK - £35UK. The model for Westfield, & the conditions, should be being made public in the next couple of days.

The new Copenhagen, Denmark, store is opening on 13th December. The refurbished LEGO Imagination Center, at the Mall of America, Minneapolis, is reopening on 4th December; there is going to be a 'Grand Re-Opening' commemorative set, which is going to be a robot.

I've just updated the news item at the top -

"EDIT: We've heard that the two new UK stores will be having so-called "soft openings" before Christmas; the official opening events will be delayed until sometime early in the New Year, so no t-shirt give-aways, building events or 'grand opening' sets until after Christmas. @bluemoose, so would you think that means no commemorative bricks until the Grand Opening events?

Posted by lukehankenobi in United Kingdom, 07 Nov 2010 03:08

So If we want the exclusive set should we wait until 2011? Perhaps Diagon Alley will be out by then?

Posted by finger2314 in United Kingdom, 07 Nov 2010 06:48

Why isn't there one in Scotland or the North of England? All the English shops are miles away!

Posted by MiniFever in United States, 07 Nov 2010 09:13

wow those lego space sets like the alpha 1 space station seem so much better designed than the ones today

Posted by Icarax123 in United Kingdom, 07 Nov 2010 15:32

"Check back for details on the opening weekend." Surely they wouldn't have put that on the landing page if nothing special is happening on the first weekend of it being open. I'm just going to wait for a few days and see...

@ legowasta - I know the feeling. None here either.
