Not Much Function To It

Posted by samuraiturtle in United States on 04 November 2009

As the title states I think their is not much function for it. I am not sure it is because it is a smaller technic set or what it might be. The prime function is moving of the wings (if you could call them that). And it uses a turn screw which makes it slow and in turn not too fun. I think they should of hooked the propelers up to spin in unison, that would of help the set. A plus is that is does come with a Technic Figure.

A Forgetable Set

Posted by samuraiturtle in United States on 04 November 2009

I am not too impress with this set it just does not have much going for it. The only good things going for it are: two astronaut for a little set, a big octagon plate (I am guessing that is for some boat set), and maybe the two levers/"control sticks" hinges.

Gentleman Start Your Engines

Posted by samuraiturtle in United States on 04 November 2009

This is a red race cart. If I remember correctly that came with a couple other sets. The good things about it are the red number 3 slope peice, the rear engine bulid, the race driver, and the chase plate. I guess the only bad thing is, it's a small set.

1 year later...

Posted by captain radda radda in United States on 04 November 2009

While its been a little over a year since its release and I just thought I'd give you guys my opinion on this amazing set. I won't go into immense detail since by now you probably know all the features, pros, cons, and ratings.

How it stands up to whats out now:

Big. Very big

Two exclusive minifigures that are still not available anywhere else

New pieces also unavailable now (Asajj's llightsaber hilts and skirt)

Price value is not as good as compared to vehicles such as the Venator which is bigger and has more money value

One of the first sets to feature the capsule escape pod design

How it stands up to the rest of the Star Wars Universe:

This is the best remake ever done. Every flaw was fixed. every detail was enhanced. Every peice was made use for. This stands up there right next to the X-wing 1999 and the Sail Barge. Its just that great.

Overall: A beautiful work of Lego art. Lego not only pushed their limits, they broke them and set new standards with this one. Get it in its last few months of availablility. Also, looks for the rest of my "One year later" recap reveiws on The Twilight, The Republic Fighter Tank, and The V-19 Torrent.

Great Underwater Rahi

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 03 November 2009

As with the Mahri Matoran, I picked a favourite Mahri Rahi: and Morak is it.

Morak sort of reminds me of a down-graded Takadox because of its transperant blue connectors, dark blue Visorak feet and glow in the dark armour piece.

The Zamor sphere, sadly, we will not be seeing again although the Midak skyblaster is sort of similair but not completely similair. I like the bottom jaw that is attached to the Rahkshi head and the Zamor tail is cool.

Overall a neat little Rahi that is really cool for making Rahi attack scenes.

THAT BLASTED TURAGA DUME MASK!

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 03 November 2009

Honestly! When a mask is repeatedly used three times it gets so annoying! Except this time its been given a scruffy yellow paint job instead of a scruffy silver paint job. Like Defilak, Dekar has the old Hordika chest plate whcih is really cool and the Bohrok legs coloured yellow (in Defilak they are dark green). The super old arm pieces are black rather than Defilaks dark green ones and the Mahri Matoran blades along with those silver hook fangs make for great MOCing pieces. The Zamor sphere is great as in the Piraka and the feet of Dekar are cool. But to me Defilak is more colourful and I like colourful Bionicles so Dekar gets a 4/5.

Nice Matoran

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 03 November 2009

Defilak is the same build as Dekar only looks better in green. The Hordika chest plate is used again as this guys chest plate and Toa Iruinis mask is re-coloured green for extra awesomeness. The silver feet are cool and the Mahri Matoran blades are really great for MOCs. The Mahri Matoran and Mahri Rahi were the last Bionicles ever to use the Zamor sphere launcher, so that is pretty cool but sad at the same time seeing as the Zamor sphere launcher is one of the best projectile launchers ever made by Bionicle producers.

Defilak is really cool and is a definite must have for Bionicle fans and non-Bionicle fans alike.

Piruk shall blow up Brutaka

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 03 November 2009

Piruk is a really cool Matoran. Actually, most green Bionicles are cool.

Pros:
Comeback of the Matau mask
Claws
Nice build
Transperant lime green fangs on shoulders
Feet

Cons:
NONE!

Piruk is a really great Matoran like all the Voya Nui Matoran but Piruk is my favourite.

Cons:

Naboo N-1 Starfighter with Vulture Droid

One of the best of it's kind so far.

Posted by PepperPizzaMan2585 in United States on 03 November 2009

This is the third naboo starfighter they released, and I must say it's one of the best they released so far. And the droid starfighter is the best they released. They both have alot of resemblance to the movie. Here are my pros and cons.

Pros:
R2-D2
Naboo Starfighter Pilot
Naboo Starfighter
Droid Starfighter
Missle
Ladder

Cons:
Anakin is too short
I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but the missile accidentally shoots out a lot of times when I try to put it on the ladder.

And then came one...

Posted by davy_jones in Malaysia on 03 November 2009

Every once in a while a small unassuming product or idea gains cult status due to its appeal. This is one such set that I absolutely love and can even be seen flying off the shelves quickly.

The Good:
Meltrox ( the rock monster) - I got this set for this little guy. He really oozes character and the design shows a lot of thought. Whats not to love?

Vehicle + miner - Good color scheme, solid build and minifig has dual face

The Bad:
I just dun like the idea of humans mining stuff and fighting with what may be indigenous species trying to defend their home/resources. Anyway Ive figured a more peaceful storyline :) PEACE<

K-9 Bot

Nearly Flawless!

Posted by Cyborg Phloyd in United States on 03 November 2009

K9-Bot, along with the Space Speeder, is the smallest set in the entire SPIII toy line. Why do I love it so much?

PROS
Like I've said in every SPIII review I've done, I praise the Minifigs in the sets very highly. The Space Police Officer minifigures are just great, period. My only qualm with the overall figure is that occasionally in SPIII sets, the officers do not have airtanks. This however, is not the case in this set; you get a fully equipped Space Police Officer, and even a hand tool, which I suspect is a laser gun.
The K9-Bot is definitely the feature of the set, hence the name. Also, however, the K9-Bot was built out of a small amount of pieces and a very simple design, and its so simple, you can see the whole thing in the picture! Its an excellent model!

CONS
My only cons with this set is the main torso of the K9-Bot, which occasionally falls off. Also, the K9-Bot doesn't have a tail, but it doesn't really need one because its a robot. I won't get the set down about the flick-rocket system; I feel it's perfectly acceptable. But even these cons are small!

This is why I love the set. It comes with a fully equipped Space Police Officer and a great little robot doggie! Plus it's immensely simple, enjoyable, and very cheap! Even if you aren't a fan of SPIII, you should still pick one up! 5/5!

The Mighty Snow Camel!

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 03 November 2009

Though not technically mine (I share it with my bro) I still can do a review.
First of all: Not to scale. There should be room for 2 pilots in the head, but it can only hold one. But it's Lego, we can only ask for so much.
This is great. As with all my Star Wars sets, it's packed away, so I don't remember all of what it has in store (but doesn't everyone like surprises?). The head has great detail. The guns are very nice in detail. As I said before, the cockpit can only store one passenger/pilot. There is also no window, but painted on a brick is a black line which acts as a window.
The body: As I said, I don't remember much about the set. I know it comes with a snowspeeder which stores in the back of the body. I also think you can store Snowtroopers in the body (very similar to the Ep. 2 AT-TE). It also has it's incredibly long legs, which, if I remember, are hard to position and have all feet on the ground. But I'm not sure.
One more thing- Careful with the head. Mine falls off easily, and that probably will happen to all of them.
Overall a great set. Very good detail. I highly recommend getting it. So get it already!

Mata Nui

"I will return."

Posted by james3426 in United States on 03 November 2009

Mata Nui is a cool "Toa"/Glatorian. He has some problems though. My friend thinks the Kanohi Ignika screws him up completely, but I still like him. He is not the best, and greshmalum, I do not get why you think he is better than the big version.

My major complaint is the fact that he does not have the sword as he has. It is replaced with a thornax launcher, which is a good launcher, but it is only for use in the action figure game. I have made a movie-version sword though, that involves these pieces: Scarab Shield half; two axle connectors; a size six axle; and a solid silver shark tooth blade. (in order from hilt to tip. Except for those axle connectors that go on each side of the axle.) Based on that, I think you can guess how they go together. Tell me in your reviews if you think it looks like the sword from the movie.

The scarab shield looks cool, but when I first saw Mata Nui earlier this year before he came out I looked at the weapon and thought, "What kind of weapon is that?" It did not look like a shield then or now.

With the ankle armor, I forgot to mention my thoughts about how they move back and forth in my Ackar review, so I will do it now. I do not consider them a con because if they were stiff, they would limit pose-ability.

The Kanohi Ignika is tiny compared to the 2008 version, but he looks really weird replaced with a Toa Metru head, and the Toa Mata Nui Ignika on him. I have come to the conclusion that they shold have designed a completely different Ignika that can fit on a Toa Metru head, but has a rounder bottom. This mask though, would look cool if it was not in helmet style and was bigger.

By the looks of him, he is powerful with those shoulder blades and those Mahri armor plates as upper leg armor. Have you noticed that he is one of the first Bionicle sets to include keetorange Inika legs? I like this a lot!

pros:
Many recolors.
Kanohi Ignika has a rounder design than 2008.
Scarab Shield looks cool.
Shield halves are plentiful.
Ankle armor.

cons:
Ignika is tiny.
He is short.
No sword.

Not the best canister of 2009. I recommend Ackar much more.

Toa Onua

Unusual colors

Posted by james3426 in United States on 03 November 2009

Onua's colors, black, silver, and--what? Classic red? This is very unusual indeed! His wings and jets sort of stick out, but I do not care much. This actually helps out with those screaming red pins. I really like his type of chest armor. In my opinion, it works very well in conjunction with the Toa Metru chest cover. The new Pakari Nuva distantly resembles the old Pakari Nuva, which is good for older fans to bring back memories. The nynrah ghost blaster guard looks very cool and is good for MOCs. You can fit the nynrah ghost blaster on his back by just putting it there, no modifications. I like where they put the jets, on the back of his legs, because he can shoot strait up in the air. The designers must have wanted a different place to put his shield, because I love it! He can take it off his shoulder and use it as a shovel.

pros:
Classic red.
Shield is on his shoulder.
Kanohi Pakari Nuva.
Chest armor.
Nynrah Ghost Blaster with guard.

cons:
none.

Onua is in my opinion, is in third place for the Mistika. He is a must-have for Toa Nuva fans.

Awesome minifig!

Posted by R.R in Netherlands on 03 November 2009

I ordered this set a few days ago together with Deep Sea Treasure Hunter, Crystal Hawk (for the astronaut and pieces) and Passage of Jun-Chi (I will review those sets later). The box is very small, but it has some nice pictures from ideas, a boat and a ultralight plane.

The minifigure has a cool green helmet with a black visor. He has a smiley face with blue sunglasses. His torso is double printed, with the Extreme Team logo and some pockets on the front, and another Extreme Team logo on the back.

The hang-glider is very simply constructed, but it looks very realistic. It consists of just 14 pieces. The wings are pretty big. It has a little propeller for some propulsion, and two sticks for stabilisation. The minifigure can hold on to the yellow cable (which is a very rare piece) but it can be hard to snap his hands on it. It looks very cool on a shelf and it has a high 'swooshability'.

This set is very nicely made for just 14 pieces. I can recommend you to get it if you like collecting minifigures (like me) or if you just want something cool to look at on a shelf.

Thank you for reading my review.

A Pleasing Little Build…

Posted by LegoCoastalPatrol in United Kingdom on 03 November 2009

I picked up the Daily Mirror this morning and came home via the Trafford Centre so called in WHSmith’s and collected my ‘free’ set.

It’s quite a cute little vehicle, large off-road tyres, blue spoiler and a white and blue colour scheme. There is also a black ‘windscreen / roll cage’ (use your imagination), a bar on the front and vent on the bonnet.

Not bad for the price of a newspaper, this is my first Racers set, I won’t be expanding this line I don’t think but as a cheap set it’s great.

Retro-futuristic motorama art deco Tiny Turbo = LUV

Posted by rifraphy in Poland on 03 November 2009

This is one of my favorite Tiny Turbos, perhaps because of the fact that is reminds me of the Rogue Sequencer - a Tiny Turbo a friend made, white and sleeker than this one - but what really catches my eye is the black-orange paintjob. Pretty dam flashy. >:)

I see this as very art deco. The clean, round lines, the abrupt ending at the front bumper, the sleek cockpit and the rocket exhausts - or maybe I don't know what art deco means. ;)

Anyway, this set has some really nice parts in sweet colors. Such as, two 1x2 orange tiles, 1x3 dark gray slopes, the racing tires in black, the supercharged V8 engine block, black Tiny Turbo fenders - most poeple probably have these parts, but they are still quite nice.

It's very sleek when finished, and fun to roll around on the table. ;) I give this astoundingly sleek, shiny (unless you douse it in mud), elegant and with a distinct look of that unexplored range of cars called muscle-supercars...

..5/5!

Hogwarts Castle

Good effort from Lego all round

Posted by mngoult in United Kingdom on 03 November 2009

I picked up this set with box and instructions for £25 on ebay and the first thing that struck me was the number of interesting pieces inlcuded with this set.

Its a fairly simple build that creates two main sections and a weird little tunnel piece. The main hall is nicely detailed and constructed, it could do with being wider as it gets very unsteady, especially when sitting on 4730.

This is the appeal of the set for me its goes well with the chamber of secrets to create a massive multi-layered castle. 8 minifgs seems fair but i would've preferred mcgonical (not sure of spelling ) rather than another snape.

It features lots of moving pieces, hidden treasure chests and interesting nooks and crannies. The loft on top of the main hall is a little squashed in and the paper roof on top really lets the overall look down.

In fact the only real let down with this set is the roof sections, there either pre-fabricated green sections or made of paper/card. A similare roof as seen on the black falcons fortress would have given this set an extra star.

As it stands its a solid four, a good effort for the first large HP set released but definete room for improvement. The benchmarks for all my reviews is how long my two year can play with the set before getting bored, i take off all the small bits and supervise carefully but even at two he appreciates the hidden sections and different levels.

Pros
-Lots of moving sections allowing good playability
-8 minifigs including dumbledore and Hagrid
-Seperate sections allow for expansion and making different combinations
-Lovely looking set with realistic castle colours

Cons
-Considering how tall it is, its very narrow
-Poor effort made for the roof sections
-Stair case moves to much (yes i know its supposed to according to the films but still it is not solid enough for me)
