Fire Station

A great addition to the fire collection

Posted by iamburning in United States on 17 November 2009

I'll do the standard pros/ cons review:

Pros:
Vehicle design - the quick response vehicle is a nice complement to the ladder for smaller incidents. The ladder has a new (and pretty nifty) way to access the cab, and there are now two seats for the firefighters.

Garage area - this is very visually appealing and the picture doesn't really do it justice. the skylights are nice but will fall off as they don't attach to anything. Both bays are tall enough to house a large truck as well (why Lego couldn't afford to give us 2 more garage door pieces on the previous station is anyone's guess)

Cons:
The ladder is very short on the truck. One of the selling points of 7945 was the high reach of the booms.

The living area seems to be an afterthought and isn't integrated into the set very well.

The high price! 79.99 is an awful lot for what you get, especially since 7945 was $20 us cheaper, has better play value, and can still be found rather plentifully.

The verdict? Any kid would be happy have it (young or old :) ) - even better if you can find it on sale some day......

Fire Boat

Ready for action!

Posted by iamburning in United States on 17 November 2009

This boat looks much better than the previous one, although having a propeller included would have been a nice bonus.

The boom on the stern adds to the playability but it can't be extended very far due to the new lift cylinder design. there is also no way to lower the raft into the water.

The wheel house is nicely done, as are the lower compartments. My only gripe is that there are areas of empty space towards the stern.

Overall, this is a great set for anyone to pick up!

Yoda's first appearence in the movies

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 17 November 2009

The hut is beautifully made. It's got alot of detail. The ack is open, though, but it really serves no purpose as it has little room folded up. It does have the feature of opening giving you more room to play. I know it has a bed (with a secret compartment) a barrel, and a small stove. Not much else.
The X-Wing is also very good. It does have the function (though it takes a while) to open the wings making the X which it was named after. It also has plant gunk hanging off of it which can easily come off. It's got landing gear, opening cockpit wih plenty of room inside, and an opening back. I do belive the back shows the gear to turn to open the wings.
Overall a great set. Great detail, and appealing appearence. Definately a set to get.

Mos Eisley Cantina

Lots of stuff.

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 17 November 2009

The Dewback: Not much. Not much detail, not much posability. The legs are molded together, so they have to move with eachother. Not the greatest.

Landspeeder: Not very good with detail. It has a plethora of studs on the top, making it look ugly. It does, though, have a clunky, worn out look to it. One of the engines is a different color, probably resembling that its been repaired.

Cantina: Can you even call it that? They really need to make a larger version of this and add more to it. What we have here is a table, door, and "bar". In the movie the bar was a detailed mess of bottles and tubes. Here its a bottle, cup, and spigot. What we do get of the cantina is nicly detailed. And we also get Greedo in this set. The only place you can get him aside from the Sepratist Shuttle (not Greedo, but the same species).

Overall a good-Great set. I'd rate it 4 1/2, but I'm roundng to 5. The lack of detail and small cantina marks it down, but it's easy to get over.

The best along with the Millennium Falcon

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 17 November 2009

It's very detailed, to start with. It even has the correct engine positions on the back. There really isn't much to say about it though. It does have an angled bit on the back which you can see in the picture. It also has 4 dark-gray studs which seem to resemble the cannons. The bridge is probably the least detailed part of the model, but it's still a great set. One thing I don't understand though. The binocular piece on the front top is out of place. To my knowledge, there is no gun there, and if it's supposed to add to the slope, it's sticking too far up.
Overall a great set. The detail is nice, and it's just great. If you don't have it, get it. If you already have it and hate it, get it out and use it as a paper weight. That's all the advice I can give.

And Here We have a Block

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 17 November 2009

Fine, not completely a block, but it is block-like. It has the basic shape of an MTT, but the lack of detail really marks this set down. It has the smooth/round pieces on the bottom to roll it easily across the floor. The back does have the feature of opening, but mine kinda fell apart (fine, it holds together well and I pulled it apart, so what?) and I don't know the correct way it opens, but trust me it opens. The front, sadly, doesn't open, but it's a mini! You can't have everything. It also has the guns on the front, but no big deal.

Overall a good set though the lack of detail does mark it down. But if you don't care about that, then it's fine.

Funny little set !

Posted by adam85 in Hungary on 17 November 2009

I like mini Technic set like this. They are not complex and the build is very easy but they have very clever technical solutions.
This mini bulldozer have only one function: you can raise and lower the blade. You can also build a mini excavator from the parts. The excavator has a movable crane arm, and it is turnable. I offer this small but very funny and clever set for every AFOL who is interested in Technic and it is good for kids too.

Decent

Posted by cbowers in United States on 17 November 2009

I love this truck/boat/trailer combo. You'll notice a 3 above. I had to ponder why I gave it such a low number. But I went with my gut...Like everyone said, this is a great idea. The truck is really fun to drive around on its bouncy huge tires. It is kinda wide though. Doesn't really fit in...the Heavy Hauler (Green Twin Dumper) is 8 wide and still skinnier than this thing... so that is noticable. I appreciate the style that lego is bringing to the table...but let's make comparable sets.

Pros...actually pretty fun playbility. Two people can sit up front in the cabin. Lots of little compartments and wench.

Cons....huge...boat thing...why one piece...not a fan of these floatable boats....in fact it just made me so upset, now I can't remember what else I don't like...oh yeah now I remember, the trailer comes unhitched all the time.

Finally some real construction vehicles

Posted by cbowers in United States on 17 November 2009

This is definitely a great addition to anyone's construction sets. While it may be tough to transport through any town, this crane when on site can perform all of the duties needed.

The treads on this thing are phenomenal. A great Idea. I plan on buying the dozer (its cousin). I aslo like the options they give with that panel wall. However, you would probably see this more in bridge construction. A great and very realistic set as are many of the newer construciton sets. I like how the boom is not just one piece.

This is a great set and actually does take a decent amount of time to build.

Best Airport

Posted by cbowers in United States on 17 November 2009

This is definitely the best airport that Lego has produced to date. The details and play are endless and this really trumps the previous models and the newer ones for the matter.

The amount of vehicles included help make this set amazing. I wish this one had come out earlier, because I own this one and its predecessor, but this one is much more fun with its jet stairs and ground support. Wish those other ground support vehicles were mass produced.

I liked these planes better, they were a more challenging build than the new ones and seemed more delicate such as airplanes really are. Oh they also fit on provided baseplates.

Pros to this set are the amount of pieces and detail and some of the minifigs. Definitely the added garage and the cargo copter. I also like the new cockpit on the airplane, makes it more sleek. Inside details were neat too, such as the lockers and the bag check.

A few cons but nothing to fret about. The lack of more aiport staff, and the tower being on stilts with no way to reach its top.

A classic Truck

Posted by cbowers in United States on 17 November 2009

I agree with previous posts about the value of this racing carrier. It is great in that it is actually pretty realistic. I like how you can load and unload the vehicles with the moving carrier pieces. This is by far one of the best Lego Semis as it is total pieces, and not those huge trailer beds that are on the new trucks. I wish they would revert back to more pieces for construction. I am tired of Lego's answer for everything is that they make them more appealing for kids to play with with bigger pieces. That is entirely untrue.

I think it takes away from the brand as a whole. The creativity is diminished with such large pieces. A truck such as this does not take away from the brand and provides limitless possibilities of play by using the pieces provided in versatile ways to make different models.

This truck has great playability with four total vehicles and is loaded with accessories. It is a perfect lego set for travel, because you do not need an entire city to play with it. A

It also fits in well with the newer wider trucks. So do the race cars. I'd like to see a race theme return. Just hope its not blocky and more piecey.

Excellent

Posted by legoboy12345678 in United Kingdom on 17 November 2009

This set is excellent it is good for young builders and old. I would give this set a five out of five because it is good if you are building a construction site.
I got this set when it first came out. It is good if you just got some pocket money. I liked the minifigure because he has good detail.
I especially like how if you turn the wheel piece the drum of the mixer will turn side to side.
You get grey studs what you put in the mixer.
This set is very good value for your money.

This is the best Lego set EVER!

Posted by legospongepotter in United States on 17 November 2009

This was my first Spongebob set and I got it for forty bucks. It should include more kitchen space and a spatula and uniforms, but it's not a big deal. Plenty of space inside the Krusty Krab. Nice accessories like the kelp and trash can (cute). This set has all the important mini figures, the cheap owner, Mr.Krabs. the two employees, Spongebob and Squidward, that evil little guy, Plankton. It would be nice if there was Patrick for a customer but I don't complain. It's my favorite set and I like how it's detailed and just looks like the real Krusty Krab. I would recommend this to any Spongebob fan. I rated it infinity out of 5. But I had to rate it here 5 out of 5. So go buy this amazing set!

Reminds me of 6698

Posted by jake9 in United States on 17 November 2009

This is a cool little set that I bought because it reminded me of 6698, which I loved as a kid. I have a thing for sets with trailers. This one is bigger and better, though. The scuba gear looks authentic, and both the truck and the jet ski look good when assembled. The wheels are rubber and they roll nicely. The life preserver won't stay on, though. I ended up putting it on the minifig so I won't lose it. It's a solid set and it's like a version 2 of good ol' 6698.

Outstanding!

Posted by desser1 in Germany on 17 November 2009

When the set came out in 2002 it totally hit me and I had to get one. As a longtime "Castle" theme fan I always wanted to build a lattice house but never had enough bricks. This set shows an excellent lattice construction paired with a beutiful roof and very need indoor finish making it a real collector's item.

sadly a lame mule

Posted by desser1 in Germany on 17 November 2009

Compared to the modern pullback motors from the "Racers" theme this old set is very slow, weak and noisy. As a kid the 2x6x1 hump on the back bothered me the most because you had to model around it.
Nevertheless I'm happy to own one and this set might still be good for young kids to learn to build first moving objects that go at a save pace. The modern motors a more radical in this manner.

great addition of ambience

Posted by desser1 in Germany on 17 November 2009

I always loved the set because it added a lot of ambience to my city. The set contains a lot of useful parts:
each of 2 1x2x1 transparent bricks in yellow, red, blue and green
two lightning bricks like from 7867 but with yellow housing
one 1x6x1 transparent brick in blue with "police" writing
one 1x6x1 transparent brick in greenwith "taxi" writing
one 1x6x1 transparent brick in red with a cup and cutlery print for builting a restaurant
2 short and 2 long cables for 4.5 V system
2 very useful 1x2x1 bricks in red with exclosures to lead cables through walls

All in all a very useful set. If you find it get it!

very needful

Posted by desser1 in Germany on 17 November 2009

This Set is a great addition to every lego collection since it enables you to build more houses from left over bricks. The set contains from my memory:
each 1 left and right glass door like in 6373
1 right glass oor with bars like from 6374
2 right wooden doors like from 6364
2 large windows 1x4x5 also like from 6373
2 Windows 1x4x3 with flipping glass inlays also like from 6373
4 Windows 1x4x3 like from 535 but with green shutters
I think about 4 or 5 classic 1x2x2 windows with red frame like from 351

This prove to be an always useful combination of doors and windows

tons of sidewalk

Posted by desser1 in Germany on 17 November 2009

Those older road plates have a 9-knob broad pavement because they are missing the latter bicycle lanes. Thus they are more appropriate for building houses along the street. The "T" Road plates feature two crosswalks.
