Great set with lots of ideas!

Posted by meyerc13 in United States on 17 November 2009

This is a great set with lots of ideas, and one of the best values around. You get a lot of bricks for the price, and some that are really useful for building construction vehicles. You get some great wheels and tires, a dump bucket, a pair of treads, and a dozer blade. You also get a 6 wide windshield, which is useful for making a lot of different trucks.

You get more bricks in the set than you'll need to build the vehicles pictured on the box. You also get a lot of ideas in the instruction manual. I personally like a bulldozer pictured in the book better than the loader pictured on the box. That bulldozer along with the dump truck and roller pictured on the box haven't been taken apart since my son and I built them. I may need to pick up another one of these sets to build some of the alternate models.

If you want to start a LEGO construction company, this is the first set you should get!

Fire Fighter Building Set

Great little starter set

Posted by meyerc13 in United States on 17 November 2009

This is one of the first sets my 4 year old received, and it is a great starter set. You get enough bricks to build the fire truck and building pictured above, plus there are ideas for another truck and a boat.

The truck even has doors, which seem to be fairly rare on most of the vehicles being released by LEGO now.

The building is fairly simple, but if you have a brick bucket you can use your extra bricks to expand the building. It's nice that they've included a window and door, although they are two deep which detracts from the set a bit.

Overall this is a nice little set, and I wish they had other sets like this in the City line.

Lights, camera, action?

Posted by Ben.r.l in United Kingdom on 16 November 2009

Another nice set but with a high price tag the Moviemaker Set has a lot to live up to. Unfortunately I found that the actual LEGO contents of the set was somewhat poor, although it has a nice feel and serves as a brilliant counterpart to the camera. The camera itself is a lot of fun but gives quite a low quality image and is supported by software that feels a little unfinished.

Quality play time is assured but so is hours of troubleshooting, a nice set but if it's LEGO you're after, this may not be the set for you.

Disappointed

Posted by cbowers in United States on 16 November 2009

I love the aviation theme for Lego. I think its a great idea. I am not totally on board with the way that the new city them has gone. However, the new vehicles have finally won me over with their widths. They just are'nt as compatible with the old ones...more noticeable in the larger vehicles aka trucks/planes.

This plane, had a lot of potential. I think its too big though, and not realistic for the scale that lego presents. There is a lot of wasted space....and the pieces are too large. Its a shame to ahve the entire cockpit and tail section as on piece each almost.

I write this review so late, and apparently too late again as it appears lego will be releasing more plasticy planes on the market. I may not be detered from buying them as I love the airports...but I think more pieces for more building options would just plain and simple be more like LEGO.

that is all. Not a fantastic build. Good luck building an airport to serve this international jetliner.

Love the new colors - but will use this for a conversion

Posted by legoclone in United States on 16 November 2009

I like the new colors and this serves as a bit of an improvement over the old Tie Advanced. However, since my Darth already has his ride I plan to take this set and convert it into a Tie Avenger since it's already so close and the Tie Avenger was really just a production starfighter derived from Darth's Tie Advanced prototype. A Tie Avenger should look nice sitting next to next year's Tie Defender once that comes out. Now I just need to pick up an extra Tie pilot.

What the!!??

Posted by jjr in Netherlands on 16 November 2009

Okay this is my review and this sis my second PM set

I bought this set because it looked better than the rock wrecker however..

When I opened the giant box I saw empty space and more empty space. And then out of the emptyness I saw 3 bags. The bags were even oversized and mostly filled with air. I immediatly thought this was something bad...really bad.

The built was easy ,really easy, no maybe too easy. nothing challenging really boring and ultra fast.

The final model containes two power miners (those are cool) and a giant red rock monster (that one is also cool) and the cave crusher. Well the model is cool to look at but really is skinny, as you maybe already know is that the weels easily lock when the vehicle is turned. the saw blade(s) however are cool and the small mining thingy at the back , and those nice red crystals!

final judgement

Price:3/10
minifigs:5/10
building:2/10 (well for a 50 euro set I expect a little more)
play: 6/10

OVERALL:4/10

Okay is I were you I would buy another set, like the cool crystal king or the brute force rock wrecker, but really even if you are a die hard PM fan I wouldn't recommending this set to anyone.

this is the first time in years I'm dissapointed with lego

OK...

Posted by StarWarsManiac in United States on 16 November 2009

This was an interesting set,

Minifigs:
Space Policeman

Others:
K-9 Bot

This was very interesting. It's a little pricey though. $3.49 is not worth 2 little items. But I got it for the K-9 Bot (which is really awesome). I would say if you got a good amount of money, buy this set.

A Perfect Addition

Posted by Travis_3210 in Canada on 16 November 2009

I got this set for my birthday and I can start off by saying how perfect this set is to any Castle collection there are 8 minifigures which are really cool, 2 cows, a horse, a duck, a chicken, a rooster, I dining table with a turkey and much much more.

Lets go right to the minifigures
Knights x2 One of them has a reversable head and the other side he looks very scared. The other one has a very commonly used face.

Woman 1 Who I like to use as the innkeeper. Has brown hair and a reversable head and on the other side she is yelling as well(not the same as the knight though)

Woman 2 Who I use as the owner of the fish, apple and flower stall has the same head as the other woman and has really long dark brown hair.

Old Peasant Very detailed fig with the cane, and the bag on his back, the really messy beard and the neat hood.

Peasant- This one has the same hair as the Harry Potter sets but is dirty blond.
Interesting torso piece.

Young Peasant- Short legs, same body has the other 2 peasants with bright yellow hair (same as luke skywalkers)

Blacksmith- Same hood has old peasant, different body design

Next to all the accesories

Tree is very unique and is awesome, stall is nice, lots of food. There are extra weapons and other fun stuff.

The buildings are extremley well detailed and have really nice colours, the blacksmith shop (tan and brown) has a working hammer that goes up and down when the waterwheel turns. Next to the shop are the stables with the horse is fairly hard to get in there (the cows fit better).

The next building which is the inn (blue and black) is much for detailed inside with a bed, and a dresser and an area for the innkeeper to do her hair and makeup. Downstairs in the kitchen there is a keg and another table.

So this set gets a 5/5 for sure and is a great addition.

GO BUY IT!

"She's the fastest ship in the galaxy"

Posted by Travis_3210 in Canada on 16 November 2009

Let me first start off by saying how great this set is when it is completed, it is so big that it is hard ton put anywhere. I got this on my birthday and finished it 3-4 days later.

This was my first time ever sorting the pieces and that took me an hour in itself.

You start off building the whole skeleton of it which is all technic, then you start building the back, then the two mandibles, and then make a bunch of plates with really odd details (antennae, phones, taps and many bars). Comes with 5 minifigs because this was based on the movie when they first meet Han and Chewie.

Lets go to the pros and cons

Pros
Looks awesome when finished
5 Minifigures-Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie and Obi Wan
It's to minifig scale

Cons
No numbered bags?
Where are the droids? They should have left Obi Wan out and put C3PO (there would be no room for R2 in the cockpit)
The guns on the top and bottom can't go 360.

Fantastic retro set

Posted by stevosowl in United Kingdom on 16 November 2009

This was my first set, given as a surprise Birthday present from my Uncle Fred. I was overwhelmed and it gave me a love of lego that i still have to this day.

It made lots of models that, for the time, were very realistic. The landrover/ boat/ trailer was my favourite, and the truck / helicopter were good also.

I still make models with this set, and have one sitting on my desk right now 29 years later. Value for money doesn't get any better than this. Thanks Fred, and thanks lego!

Nice tiny little City addition!

Posted by legomakes3 in United States on 15 November 2009

Value Drugs, my fav drugstore, had this little impulse set, and I bought it!

Pros:
*Great minifigure!
*Tiny little ketchup frigde!
*Grill!
*Ketchup and mustard bottles!
*Chicken drumstick!

Cons:
*Ketchup and mustard is not the greatest add-on to chicken. Salt and pepper would have worked better!

GREAT CITY IMPULSE SET!

Fight for the Crystal Skull

Posted by legomakes3 in United States on 15 November 2009

I bought this wonderful set today at Value Drugs, my local DRUGSTORE! Yes, I mean DRUGSTORE! The toy department buyer at my local drugstore thought that buying LEGO toys would boost up the department's popularity. And, YES, it did! Not just for me and my younger brothers, but for kids that are walking down the aisles freely, and them screaming to their mothers or fathers "MOM, DAD, THEY HAVE LEGO!"

Now, after that little FYI, it is time to go on to review this 2009 Indiana Jones set. I received it from my grandmother for a great marking period report card. The drugstore gets LEGO sets and stocks them out ever 2-4 weeks. And when I went today, they had sets like the Indiana Jones sets I am reviewing now, the Pirates Kraken Attack, the Space Police impulses (NO INTEREST TO ME! :(), City impulses including the new BBQ Stand (which I got a few days ago), Bionicle playsets (for anyone interested), and Duplo sets! There are so many more, I can't even list them! So I got the Chauchilla Cemetery Battle, a set from my 2009 wanted list!

Pros:

*5 mini-figures. Indiana Jones with a new grin, Mutt Williams (my first in my collection), two new cemetery warrioes (with the return of the LEGO Harry Potter hairs), and an explorer skeleton protecting the Crystal Skull (the return of the Pirates Armada helmet! What could this mean?? Hmmm....)

*Buildable sections. This made it easier to build in under 20 minutes, and also way more fun to play and enjoy with!

*A crystal skull and rare pieces. The Crystal Skull is great, with a little bit weird blue brain! My first! There are also some rare pieces, as I mentioned before, with a Pirates Armada helmet and Harry Potter hair pieces!

*Great scene represenatives! The part where Indy and Mutt use the rock mechanism to get to the burial ground is re-created EXACTLY, with the circular piece on top of a regular studded mini-base!

*Animal invasions! Scorpions and spiders!

Cons:

*HORRIBLE INDY FACE! The new grin works well with the Temple of Doom set, but not with this one! Indiana Jones never had this face in KOTCS! If TLC wanted to make an extreme face, make the beard GREY, and forgot the horrible face design!

*Somewhat WEAK when carrying place to place. You can't bring this set to different places, because it will SNAP in HALF! THAT IS NOT PRETTY!

I think this Indy set is one of the best, and I am so happy that I had the chance to get it this year! Let's see if they still have it out in 2010, a second one might be an option..... :P

Great little snowman

Posted by I like Lego in Canada on 15 November 2009

I picked this set up yesterday when I was in Toys"R"us (hunting for 2010 sets) for $4.99 CDN (which is I think $3.49 US) along with 3009 Christmas Tree, Space Speeder, and 8399 K-9 Bot. This was the second set I opened when I got home. He may be small, but is a great set!

Pros :)
-Small
-Orange Cone Nose
-Nice little red tie
-Arms
-Broom
-Nicely made face
-New Piece

Cons :(
-Can't bend his arms Foreword
-What is there to play with?
-Expensive for 44 pieces at $4.99 CDN ($3.49 for Americans).

Overall:
8/10, great little set (it even has a secret code: HOLO09). Next set to review 30009 Christmas Tree.

A nice car, great value

Posted by stevosowl in United Kingdom on 15 November 2009

This is my first real buy in the creator series - and i enjoyed the build.

The set makes three models, the f1 style car was easy to put together and looked ok, the hotrod even better.

However the real star is the street car. A good, solid, detailed car that takes 20 to 25 minutes to put together. The scale is nice, the green colour makes the car distinctive and it would have been perfect with steering!

For the price it is a great model and i have the 4939 set on order because of it.

Good cheap set

Posted by David1971 in United Kingdom on 15 November 2009

It's important that Lego continues to make these nice little 'pocket money' sets. This one has two minifigs, which is good, including the unusual squid-man. The vehicle is fine for its size. Nothing very amazing, but combine this set with the other inexpensive one, Freeze Ray Frenzy, and there's a lot of play value there.

Really cool alien vehicle

Posted by David1971 in United Kingdom on 15 November 2009

The best thing here by far is the alien, 'Kranxx' - a very nicely designed minifig, original and with excellent attention to detail - and in particular his very unusual black 'hotrod hover-cycle', which looks cool and groovy and has lots of interesting detail. The police bike thing is fine but not very special. But this is a great set if you concentrate on the 'hotrod', and borrow bits from the traffic light and the police bike to modify the black vehicle so it's the coolest in the galaxy. Therefore, the set encourages exploration and play, and gets 5/5.

Armored Assault Tank

Posted by cmgc135 in Canada on 15 November 2009

After receiving 4 sets for Christmas, the next day, I checked Lego.com for new sets. I immediately bought 8018 Armored Assault Tank.

There are 7 figures. Yoda (Clone Wars, new),a Phase I Clone Trooper,2 B1 Battle Droids and 3 B2 Super Battle Droids(Blaster Arms, new). Weapons include a green lightsaber (new hilt) and a blaster rifle.

The vehicle is 8 in wide, 8 in long, and 5 in tall.

There is a speeder that can be deployed from the back. The front and back part of the speeder can be raised and lowered. A Battle Droid pilots the speeder.

The turret can be turned (if positioned in the middle) about 45 degrees and can be raised 90 degrees. A Battle Droid can be placed behind the turret. The droid has to curl up to fit inside.

A hatch in front of the turret opens to see the speeder.

On each side there are 2 missiles. Flick them with your fingernail and they will go pretty far.

Overall, I give this a 4.5/10

I suggest this to anyone who likes the Clone Wars and whoever wants a good, well built model

Combustix!

Posted by IlovePowerMiners in United States on 15 November 2009

The title is the rock monster in the set. I plan on keeping it short, so here goes:

Pros:
Trans. blue dome- I love this brick because they re- designed the old "golf ball" dome.
Rock monster- It is sweet because its head is trans. yellow, and his arms and print are black, vs. the old dark gray.
Miner- I love the new ones because they have heatproof suits with Space Police 2 visors in silver, that is, without the antennae.
Play Features- For its size it has a lot of play features; it rolls, the miner's visor opens, the cockpit opens, and it has a dynamite launcher.

Cons:
Claw Digger crystal?- Instead of the yellow of the monster, they used the old Rock Raiders/ Claw Digger/ Underground Mining Station/ U know the rest colored crystal.

I bought this at my local TRU which already has Atlantis/ Magma Mech/ whatnot. Overall I give it a 10 out of 5 it was exceptional and you should buy it.

Oh, Sweet Memories

Posted by chavez247 in Switzerland on 15 November 2009

This set has been in pieces for years, but I can remember how much I liked it. I got it when I was about 6 and I can remember the fun I had playing with the huge boulder. I also liked the elephant and all the treasure; the jewels and of course the awesome Golden Shield. Overall, from what I can remember, it was a great set.
Pros:
Boulder
Minifigs
Jewels
Elephant
Looks good
Cons:
None
Overall, it was(and probably still is) a great set. I fine feeling a bit nostalgic, so I`m signing out!

LEGO Truck

Don't let the nostalgia blind you.

Posted by Cervelet in Belgium on 15 November 2009

I saw this set in a boutique, new, waiting for me to be bought. It's a set I once owned as a child.
How does it fare up against the time?
Well, to put it simple: it's quite bland, especially when you don't stick the stickers. It's okay, but that's it. It's just a truck. While it does feature a few nice details, it pales when put near one of nowadays trucks.
At last it features a good pieces choice, and the chrome parts are what avoid this model to be too forgetable. (get the chrome pieces out, it will become a borring model)
While I may seem harsh, I have to admit one thing: it's perfect for children. It has a small size, doors and opening roof, making it easy to put somebody in. The construction is easy and it has shiny pieces. The back doesn't feature any attach though: you'd have to design your own way to attach cargo to the back.

Final:
Design: 3/5. Shiny pieces avoid it to be too bland. Other than that boring.
Playability: 3/5. Nice play possibilities, especially for children. Gets boring fast in itself though, modifications have to be made to make it interesting. (cargo!)
Pieces: 4/5. Doors, Roof, chrome.
Price: 3/5. You get a truck for a low price, but spending the same for the new repair truck is a lot more interesting.

Okay model, but bland.
