Kind Of Boring, But Good

Posted by chavez365 in Switzerland on 08 November 2009

Turaga Nuju is a perfect example of an average set: okay weapon, okay coloring etc etc. The only thing about him that`s slightly above average is the mask, the Noble Matatu, the Noble Mask of Telekinesis. It`s got some detail on it, but compare it to Turaga Matau`s Noble Mahiki and it falls flat on its face. As does the rest of this set when compared to my other Turaga. The colors are not good: if he comes from the Land of Ice and Snow, Ko-Wahi, shouldn`t there be more white? Instead it`s grey grey grey, and then white feet and an unimpressive white pickaxe. Unimpressive things in a very average set.
Overall, Nuju does not tickle me pink. He`s boring. Really, you should only get him if you`ve got all the other Turaga or you`re a fan of the Ice characters.

Too Small To Argue With

Posted by chavez365 in Switzerland on 08 November 2009

I have no complaints with Turaga Matau, really because he`s so small! He does, however have pretty positive aspects. First and foremost, the two things that stare you in the face: the mask and the buzzsaw. The mask, the Noble Mahiki, the noble Mask of Illusion, is quite nice, with good detailing. The buzzsaw is the kind of weapon you`de expect a Turaga to have: small, slightly powerful, but very weak compared to Toa weapons. It`s a good little weapon and adds to Matau`s jungly look.
Matau is a nice set. He matches his element well, and looks like the kind of wise leader you would like to have on your side. While he isn`t great, he is worthwhile.

A great starter.

When I saw this set here on Brickset, I had to get it because it was cheap (only 6,00 euros) and because it contained everything you could ask for in a small set: a minifig, a nice-looking vehicle, accesoires and some scenery.

The diver minifig has a serious face and a printed helmet with airtanks. He has a double-printed torso and black legs. He looks neat, although a second diver would have been even better.

The sub is actually pretty big. It has two robot arms with claws at the front to collect objects and stuff. The arms move up and down and the claws rotate 360 degrees. You can put almost everything the set comes with into them.
The sub also has two blue lights at the front and two spinning propellors at the back. The rudder moves from side to side and the yellow tail piece is printed - it says 'sub deep diving'. One thing I would like to mention is that in the picture, the two pins for connecting the flippers are yellow, but they are grey in the set.
There are, in my opinion, no bad points about the sub at all.

The accesoires are two flippers, two harpoon guns, two red snakes, a treasure chest, four golden coins, an evil skull, a blue crystal (rare) and a green crystal (also rare). There are no big problems with them, although I would like to see two snakes with different colors. Also, a skeleton instead of just a skull would increase the playability quite a bit. But I do like the crystals really much because you could easily use them with Power Miners sets.

The scenery consists of a 4x4 grey baseplate, some rocks and a dark green seaweed thing. It isn't anything special, but it could have been bigger and withe one or two more plants. That would increase the playability, because then the diver could have something where he could hide for the snakes.

All in all, a great set to start with if you haven't got any bigger Aqua Raiders sets yet (like me). I am considering buying Angler Ambush to go with this set, because that also looks like a great set.

Thank you for reading my review.

Oh the joy!

I remember getting this from my grandma and building this little robot dude. I loved this set and used it as my lego storage bin for a while. I want those times back. This set was very good for a five year old and a seven year old. On to the Pros and Cons!

Pros:
-great amount of parts
-comes with some very cool pieces
-two minifigs for two children.

Cons:
-doors, but not enough parts to make anything more than a shed
some parts are useless.

Better than most, but not the best

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 07 November 2009

Mainly, the lack of detail marks this set down. It's very accuratly designed, though compared to it in the movie. It, at least, includes the main components (sphere guns, weird cockpit, engines). The missle launcher on the top is sticking out too high. If I remember correctly, the wings will tilt when you tilt the ship making it level with the ground.
Overall, a good set. The lack of detail marks this set down, but it's recommended if you don't care about detail.

Why do you ask I give it a 3/5? This thing is terrible. It's body is a box. The legs are also too thin, and the feet are big compared to them. The head is a little better than the rest, but not the greatest. I don't know. It just is kinda badly designed. I don't recommend this one. Get a better mini first, and maybe this one if you don't have anything else to get. But definately save it for last.

Brilliant!

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 07 November 2009

Very good for a mini set. It's simpicity actually adds to the accuracy and uniquness (does that make sense?). It's painted top adds the main detail of the model. It also has the dish which is in scale to the rest of the model. The cockpit could at least have a sticker to make it more accurate or a painted surface. The engines are also flat instead of rouned around the back. It also includes the escape pods on either side.
Overall, a good set. It's better than othe minis, but I still give it a 4/5. Definately get it if you're going to get a mini set.

Jedi Starfighter & Slave I

good detail

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 07 November 2009

For a mini, this is great. Obi Wan's starfighter is a little basic, but it's a mini model, what are you going to do? The designs on the top front add detail and make up for the basic design. The Slave I is a little better. It's definately larger than the Jedi Starfighter, but is equally detailed.
There isn't much else. What you see in the picture is pretty much what you get. So Overall a good set. The lack of originality is the downfall in the set, but It's better than most minis.

AT-ST & Snowspeeder

ooooo, Accuracy

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 07 November 2009

Snowspeeder is incredibly accurate. Even though its like 3/4th and inch (I haven't measured it, so I'm not guarenteeing anything). It's an adorable little ship.
The AT-ST isn't quite as accurate. The front is a little goofy looking because it's flat and has no depth. The guns look good and are nicely sized compared to the rest of the figure. The top section also can loosely spin around. The legs are terrible, however. They don't have much posability with bending the legs forward. But they support the walker.
Overall, a good set. The snowspeeder is the strong point of this set, and the AT-ST being it's downfall. But it's still good.

Toa Hordika Onewa

Great weapons

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Where do I begin??? This guy is bursting with AWESOMENESS! Toa Metru Onewa was my fourth favourite Toa Metru, but Hordika Onewa is my favourite Hordika! Amazing how things change for the better, isn't it?

Pros:
Weapons are awesome
Hordika chest-plate
Hordika limbs
Hordika limbs
Weapons are awesome
Rhotuka spinner
Swivelling arm mechanism
Weapons are awesome
Mask is great
Good set for MOCing
Did I mention that the weapons are awesome?

Cons:
NONE!

Hordika Onewa is awesome and I was sad to see him cured back to Toa Metru in the movie, but that is only a movie. You can always make up the REAL story (in which Hordika Nokama turns evil and gets a Vezon cape and kills Vakama, Nuju and Whenua and it is up to Onewa and Matau to stop her and her 5 Visorak - she kicked the black Visorak of a waterfal where he was eaten by Keetongu)

Toa Hordika Vakama

Looks like a lion (sort of)

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

I wasn't that fussed on Toa Metru Vakama, but Hordiak Vakama is awesome. The faces of all Hordika are great for Rahi MOCs, and the Rhotuka spinner is one of the best projectile weapons Bionicle designers have made.

Pros:
Hordika chest-plate
Rhotuka spinner
Nice colours
Hordika feet
Cool weapons
Mask looks sort of like a lion
Hordika limbs
Swivelling arm mechanism
Nice build

Cons:
Rhotuka spinners are easily lost

But if you can use the Rhotuka spinner properly (DAD!) then the Rhotuka spinners can't get lost. All the Hordika are cool except Nokama, so they are a must have Bionicle subtheme.

Cool - excuse the pun

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Nuju is my third favourite Turaga. His pickaxe is really cool and is the third best weapon of all Turaga weapons.

Pros:
Mask is great
Pickaxe
White Toa heads

Cons:
Grey not full white

Other than that colour con, Turaga Nuju is a great and cheap Bionicle.

Ripply mask and trident

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Nokama is my lest favourite Turaga. The trident is about the only cool thing on her in my opinion. The ripply-wave mask does kinda make it look like it has some connection to the sea, but it doesn't really do anything to me except make me weep.

Pros:
Trident
Dark blue Toa heads

Cons: (where do I start?)
Mask is dumb
Light blue not dark blue
Arms are too long and look weird on her
No X-factor

Nokama is cheap so it would make sense to get her but don't be surprised if you don't like her.

Onewa

Tallest of the Turaga

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Onewa is a really cool Turaaga. He is tan and dark brown, like Pohatu, and I really like that colour scheme. His hammer is the second best weapon of the all the Turaga.

Pros:
Cool hammer
Tall
Tan and dark brown
Brown Toa feet
Mask is quite cool - not as cool as Matau's

Cons:
NONE!

Turaga Onewa is a really great, cheap Bionicle that all must get.

Whenua

Dwarf

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Whenua is the shortest Turaga, being just a little shorter than Matau. His drill/thingy staff is quite cool and the mask is pretty good. But he is kinda short, even though Matau is almost as short as him.

Pros:
Earth Turaga
Drill/thingy staff
Mask

Cons:
Monotonous colours
Kinda short

Overall Turaga Whenua gets a 4/5.

Chop chop!

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Matau is my favourite Turaga of the six. That fact might seem a bit biased because green is my favourite colour, but I think that this guy is genuinely awesome.

Pros:
Colour scheme - emerald green and lime green
Nice mask
Saw
Green Toa heads

Cons:
NONE!

Turaga Matau is a really nice, cheap addition to any Bionicle collection and is a must have if you want to re-create Kohli matches.

Nice beard

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Vakama is a little guy with a cool staff and a cool beard. My brother really likes him, but I don't find him so appealing.

Pros:
Staff
Nice beard
Red Toa heads as feet

Cons:
Orange, not red

The fact that he is orange not red has made me really angry with LEGO, so Vakama gets a 3/5.

Very cool indeed

Posted by miniman30 in United Kingdom on 07 November 2009

What can I say? It's great!

The temple is very detailed with foliage and plants growing on it.
The axe trap is a good feature and it even has a sun disk! :D
The car is very good. I don't know whether it's Pippin's or Palomar's though =S
The minifigs (3 of them) are cool. Palomar is the best one

For it's shear awesomeness, it's a 5/5 from me!

Cute

Posted by Kalhiki in United States on 07 November 2009

This sets is good. I'll do a short review on each pod
Anakin's Pod- Really, the only thing to talk about are the engines. They resemble the Pod's engines, but it should only have 3 prongs each. And there's the cockpit, which also resembles the actual cockpit nicely.
Sebulba's Pod- I say it's better than Anakin's. The engines are acurate and big, though it's not to scale with the other pod. The cockpit is also nice.
Really, there's not much else. They do not have the cords that connect the cockpit with the engines. But, overall, a good set. I don't quite recommend it though.
