What is this guy supposed to be exactly?

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 20 November 2009

I'm kinda surprised actually that Pridak employed this guy to be a Barraki. Although, I'm surprised Pridak employed himself, but thats a different review. What I'm really trying to say is that Barraki are supposed to bring fear into the hearts of the Mahri Matoran, like Ehlek and Takadox and Carapar and Mantax do, but this guy just kinda looks like he took a wrong turn at Voya Nui. Seriously, if this guy had to come down, he should have just kept going until he found the fiery place.

Pros:
- Three eyes
- Mandibles
- Shoulder pads
- Feet

Cons:
- Tentacles
- Squid launcher
- Squid
- Inika build
- Shoulder pads shouldn't be two toned

Kalmah really isn't one of Lego's best, sorry, so 3/5.

EHLEK-TRIC! (excuse the pun)

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 20 November 2009

Ehlek is the best of the Barraki. He has a unique build, sort of similair to Takadox, and has electric spines on his back. Awesome!

Pros:
- Head is great for MOCing
- Claws
- Electric spines
- Piraka feet
- Mandibles
- Unique build
- Nice choice of limbs
- Little armour makes him look agile

Cons:
- Squid launcher (MAJOR CON!)

Although the squid launcher is really bad and I said that it was a major con you can just take it off and adjust the squid-launcher-holding-claw slightly so he just has two claws.

Right now Ehlek is holding up Toa Mahri Nuparu and giving him some good old EHLEK-TRIC shocks!

Maharaja!

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 18 November 2009

I got this set when I was like 8 or so and I was so excited about getting it. And as it turned out, this set was well in truly worth the wait.

I was super excited because it was my first set over $80(NZD) and also because it was my first Lego elephant. I also thought that the boulder looked pretty cool but I wasn't quite sure how it worked until I built it.

Now onto how I felt afterwards. To cut a long story short: I FELT AWESOME!

The boulder mechanism is sooooo great and it works consistently and every time you pull the scorpion claw...BAM! Bye bye Sinister Sam!

The build of the palace itself is really great and the minifigs rock. The Maharaja is my favourite because of his white turban. The palace guard's spear thing is really well made using a pole and a sword.

The elephant is elephantinely awesome. It has a little carriage thing on its back which someone can sit in.

The Scorpion Palace is a must have Lego set for all who enjoy extreme amounts of playability.

GADUNKA!

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 14 November 2009

Gadunka is a really great Bionicle. His head is glow in the dark and his teeth are the Ehlek spine pieces. His claws are the Mahri Matoran blades and look really great.

Pros:

Glow in the dark head
Ehlek spines used as teeth
Claws
Cool build
Suspension on legs
Hakann foot used as tongue
Leg armour
Chest armour
Highly posable

Cons:

Squid launcher sucks

Other than that squid launcher con, which is easily fixable, Gadunka is one of thee best Bionicles ever made.

BRONZE TOA!

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 14 November 2009

Toa Hewkii is really cool. He is my third favourite Toa Inika, only surpassed by Kongu and Nuparu.

Pros:

Bronze!
Yellow
Axe
Red Zamors
Zamor Launcher
Zamor Holder
Inika feet
Mask
Inika chest-plate
Chain

Cons:

Hard to distinguish facial features
Chain can get in the way

Toa Inika Hewkii is a great buy.

Toa Kongu

Almost as good as Nuparu

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 13 November 2009

Being green is always an excuse for me to give a high rating. But personally, I think that this guy should get a higher rating than 5 (not as good a rating as Nuparu though, cause Nuparu rocks the earth. Teehee).

Pros:

Mask may look weird but is awesome
Crossbow
Zamor Launcher
Zamor Holder
Zamors are blue
Shoulder armour
Inika feet
Chest plate

Cons:

Limb armour isn't green

Other than that minor con, Kongu is awesome!

Toa Nuparu

Nuparu has been revamped... and is just as cool!

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 13 November 2009

Seriously, this guy is awesome. The Earth Toa are just blowing me away. The mask is cool and the Piraka feet in black look great. The new liimb armour is great too. The shield is one of the best parts of the set.

Pros:

Shield
Mask
Pipe connecting to oxygen filter?
Black Piraka feet
Cordak blaster
Limb armour
Black!

Toa Mahri Nuparu is great, and just like his Inika version, is a must have for everyone.

General Grievous' Starfighter

Square front

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 12 November 2009

Don't let the title put you off this set. Because if it does, then you'll be missing out on something really awesome. The color scheme is exactly right, and the cockpit and engine designs are great. The jets at the front are great, but as my title suggests, the front is a bit square, whereas in the bigger model the front is diagonal.

Pros:

Color Scheme
Cockpit
Engines
Front Jets
Design

Cons:

Square Front
NO GUNS!

Other than those two cons, the Mini version of General Grievous' Star-fighter is a great buy.

Nice little guy

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 08 November 2009

To me, this guy looks like he means business. And with that awesome Kanoka disk launcher, he looks like he can take on a Visorak army any time, any day.

Pros:

Turaga Vakama's mask
Two toned mask - black and silver
Nice build
Kanoka disk launcher
Looks dangerous

Cons:

NONE!

Overall Tehutti is my second favourite Metru Nui Matoran and he is a must have for all Bionicle fans.

Toa Hordika Onewa

Great weapons

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Where do I begin??? This guy is bursting with AWESOMENESS! Toa Metru Onewa was my fourth favourite Toa Metru, but Hordika Onewa is my favourite Hordika! Amazing how things change for the better, isn't it?

Pros:
Weapons are awesome
Hordika chest-plate
Hordika limbs
Hordika limbs
Weapons are awesome
Rhotuka spinner
Swivelling arm mechanism
Weapons are awesome
Mask is great
Good set for MOCing
Did I mention that the weapons are awesome?

Cons:
NONE!

Hordika Onewa is awesome and I was sad to see him cured back to Toa Metru in the movie, but that is only a movie. You can always make up the REAL story (in which Hordika Nokama turns evil and gets a Vezon cape and kills Vakama, Nuju and Whenua and it is up to Onewa and Matau to stop her and her 5 Visorak - she kicked the black Visorak of a waterfal where he was eaten by Keetongu)

Toa Hordika Vakama

Looks like a lion (sort of)

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

I wasn't that fussed on Toa Metru Vakama, but Hordiak Vakama is awesome. The faces of all Hordika are great for Rahi MOCs, and the Rhotuka spinner is one of the best projectile weapons Bionicle designers have made.

Pros:
Hordika chest-plate
Rhotuka spinner
Nice colours
Hordika feet
Cool weapons
Mask looks sort of like a lion
Hordika limbs
Swivelling arm mechanism
Nice build

Cons:
Rhotuka spinners are easily lost

But if you can use the Rhotuka spinner properly (DAD!) then the Rhotuka spinners can't get lost. All the Hordika are cool except Nokama, so they are a must have Bionicle subtheme.

Cool - excuse the pun

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Nuju is my third favourite Turaga. His pickaxe is really cool and is the third best weapon of all Turaga weapons.

Pros:
Mask is great
Pickaxe
White Toa heads

Cons:
Grey not full white

Other than that colour con, Turaga Nuju is a great and cheap Bionicle.

Ripply mask and trident

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Nokama is my lest favourite Turaga. The trident is about the only cool thing on her in my opinion. The ripply-wave mask does kinda make it look like it has some connection to the sea, but it doesn't really do anything to me except make me weep.

Pros:
Trident
Dark blue Toa heads

Cons: (where do I start?)
Mask is dumb
Light blue not dark blue
Arms are too long and look weird on her
No X-factor

Nokama is cheap so it would make sense to get her but don't be surprised if you don't like her.

Onewa

Tallest of the Turaga

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Onewa is a really cool Turaaga. He is tan and dark brown, like Pohatu, and I really like that colour scheme. His hammer is the second best weapon of the all the Turaga.

Pros:
Cool hammer
Tall
Tan and dark brown
Brown Toa feet
Mask is quite cool - not as cool as Matau's

Cons:
NONE!

Turaga Onewa is a really great, cheap Bionicle that all must get.

Dwarf

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Whenua is the shortest Turaga, being just a little shorter than Matau. His drill/thingy staff is quite cool and the mask is pretty good. But he is kinda short, even though Matau is almost as short as him.

Pros:
Earth Turaga
Drill/thingy staff
Mask

Cons:
Monotonous colours
Kinda short

Overall Turaga Whenua gets a 4/5.

Matau

Chop chop!

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Matau is my favourite Turaga of the six. That fact might seem a bit biased because green is my favourite colour, but I think that this guy is genuinely awesome.

Pros:
Colour scheme - emerald green and lime green
Nice mask
Saw
Green Toa heads

Cons:
NONE!

Turaga Matau is a really nice, cheap addition to any Bionicle collection and is a must have if you want to re-create Kohli matches.

Vakama

Nice beard

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

Turaga Vakama is a little guy with a cool staff and a cool beard. My brother really likes him, but I don't find him so appealing.

Pros:
Staff
Nice beard
Red Toa heads as feet

Cons:
Orange, not red

The fact that he is orange not red has made me really angry with LEGO, so Vakama gets a 3/5.

"Your such a beautiful freak"

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 07 November 2009

This will be a part by part review of a truly amazing set.

1: Sarda

Sarda is the red Matoran. He has Toa Metru Vakama's mask, a silver Toa Mata Onua claw and two of Mantax's claws, the latter looking sort of strange but still cool.. His build is the same as Defilak and Dekar, apart from the feet. The Hordika chest plate is great, and the Toa Inika feet add a nice touch to Sarda, seeing as Matoran feet are usually quite boring. Although, Idris has Toa Metru of Earth(black colour) Whenua's mask but in blue, whereas Sarda's was red on Toa Metru Vakama. I think that they could have had Toa Metru Onewa's mask in red, but otherwise Sarda is a good Matoran.
Sarda: 4/5

2: Idris

Idris is the blue Matoran. He has Toa Metru Whenua's mask, but in blue, a silver Toa Mata Onua claw and a Solek sword with fang-hilt. The feet are great and the Hordika chest plate looks good on the Mahri Matoran. He is built using exactly the same pieces in exactly the same places as all the other Mahri Matoran, but with different colours. Unlike Dekar, Defilak and Sarda, Idris's leg connectors are transperent blue instead of dark grey. In my opinion Idris is the better of the two Matoran.
Idris: 5/5

3: The Trap

The trap function is really well and it stands up straight when placed on the ground. It securely holds Karzahni when he is put in it and it is a really neat little addition to the set, seeing as most Titan sets only come with the Titan. The trap is really cool in my opinion.
The Trap: 5/5

4: Karzahni

Karzahni is a mutated being, once the ruler of the realm Karzahni. and he certainly looks mutated to me. His head has finally made Pridak's size 17 feet look good: coloured green and with two transperant red fangs as eyes on top. Karzahni's head also has two horns, in silver, which just add that little bit of awesomeness to him. The Carapar chest-plate/Mantax shoulder-pads are used as Karzahni's chest-plate and shoulder-pads, and they look amazing in green. Toa Vakama Hordika heads are used as leg-pads and Mantax's feet in green are Karzahni's feet. Ehlek's heads are Karzahni's hands, with a dark green horn in each eyehole, like fingers. The Vezon chains look cool and are his primary weapons. Vezon's cape is also used as Karzahni's cape and that looks quite cool too. Two of Takdox's blades are on his chest as... well I actually don't know what they are. But they still look cool on him. The squid launcher however, as I've said in previous reviews, sucks. It can't even fire properly, and from what I've read on Brickset it seems that almost everyone agrees with me. But you can just take it off and so it's fine.
Karzahni: 5/5

In this set there are lots of re-coloured pieces and they have re-used lots of awesome pieces. The Matoran and the trap add extra awesomeness to an already awesome Bionicle.

Best Toa Mata (excluding Nuva)

Posted by Carl in New Zealand on 06 November 2009

I was 5 years old when the original Toa came out, but the canisters said 6+, so I couldn't get any. My brother on the other hand was 7, so he got Taha, Kopaka, Gali, Onua and Pohatu! That left only Lewa, which was perfect for me because back then I was even more fanatical about green than I am now. So when my 6th birthday came around, I was so excited to get Lewa, my first ever Bionicle! I didn't get disappointed.

Lewa is an awesome Toa and is truly worthy if the title. The colour scheme is great, using emerald and lime greens to make the Toa Mata of Air truly awesome.

Pros:
- Kanohi Miru
- Colour Scheme
- 'Hand' is cool
- Swivelling arm function
- Axe is supreme
- Build

Cons:
- Canister picture shows him posed in a way that you can't pose him

But that con about the canister picture doesn't count towards anything because thats about the canister, not the actual set. Overall, I give Lewa a 5/5.
