Deep Sea Treasure Hunter

A great starter.

When I saw this set here on Brickset, I had to get it because it was cheap (only 6,00 euros) and because it contained everything you could ask for in a small set: a minifig, a nice-looking vehicle, accesoires and some scenery.

The diver minifig has a serious face and a printed helmet with airtanks. He has a double-printed torso and black legs. He looks neat, although a second diver would have been even better.

The sub is actually pretty big. It has two robot arms with claws at the front to collect objects and stuff. The arms move up and down and the claws rotate 360 degrees. You can put almost everything the set comes with into them.
The sub also has two blue lights at the front and two spinning propellors at the back. The rudder moves from side to side and the yellow tail piece is printed - it says 'sub deep diving'. One thing I would like to mention is that in the picture, the two pins for connecting the flippers are yellow, but they are grey in the set.
There are, in my opinion, no bad points about the sub at all.

The accesoires are two flippers, two harpoon guns, two red snakes, a treasure chest, four golden coins, an evil skull, a blue crystal (rare) and a green crystal (also rare). There are no big problems with them, although I would like to see two snakes with different colors. Also, a skeleton instead of just a skull would increase the playability quite a bit. But I do like the crystals really much because you could easily use them with Power Miners sets.

The scenery consists of a 4x4 grey baseplate, some rocks and a dark green seaweed thing. It isn't anything special, but it could have been bigger and withe one or two more plants. That would increase the playability, because then the diver could have something where he could hide for the snakes.

All in all, a great set to start with if you haven't got any bigger Aqua Raiders sets yet (like me). I am considering buying Angler Ambush to go with this set, because that also looks like a great set.

Thank you for reading my review.

Awesome minifig!

Posted by R.R in Netherlands on 03 November 2009

I ordered this set a few days ago together with Deep Sea Treasure Hunter, Crystal Hawk (for the astronaut and pieces) and Passage of Jun-Chi (I will review those sets later). The box is very small, but it has some nice pictures from ideas, a boat and a ultralight plane.

The minifigure has a cool green helmet with a black visor. He has a smiley face with blue sunglasses. His torso is double printed, with the Extreme Team logo and some pockets on the front, and another Extreme Team logo on the back.

The hang-glider is very simply constructed, but it looks very realistic. It consists of just 14 pieces. The wings are pretty big. It has a little propeller for some propulsion, and two sticks for stabilisation. The minifigure can hold on to the yellow cable (which is a very rare piece) but it can be hard to snap his hands on it. It looks very cool on a shelf and it has a high 'swooshability'.

This set is very nicely made for just 14 pieces. I can recommend you to get it if you like collecting minifigures (like me) or if you just want something cool to look at on a shelf.

Thank you for reading my review.

VROOOM! CRASH! (the gate gets knocked over)

Posted by R.R in Netherlands on 21 July 2009

I got this set a few months ago and I like it. The main reason why I got this set is because of Agent Chases 4x4 monster truck with all the features.

You start building with the gate. It is the worst part of the set because it breaks apart easily, and when you try to crash through it with the truck, you will either knock it over, or push it forward. The best part of it are the 1x4 yellow tiles with printed black lines.

After you finished building the gate, you build Dr D. Zasters (I like that name because it sounds evil) Slime Chopper. It looks pretty evil. The worst things of it are obviously the ten stickers you need to apply. In the instruction manual, the two stickers on both sides of the helicopter's tail aren't shown. That's probably because they come off very easily, so after a few days I decided to take them off.

The helicopter has two slime barrels, one on each side. You can turn them downwards to pretend that the slime comes out and kills everyone. :) The helicopter's top rotor looks cool, but it doesn't spin very well.

Dr. D. Zaster is a brilliant minifigure. His hair rocks. He looks SO evil! He looks a bit like the aliens from the U.F.O series. He is only available in this set. He's also the only bad guy in the Agents series that isn't Dr. Inferno or one of his henchmen.

Finally you build the best part of the set, the truck. For the suspension it uses two rubber Technic parts. I like the fact that it has two seats, so you can put another agent in it. It has one pop-up missle at each side and two flick-fire missles (I like those, they go really far) in the trunk, which opens up to reveal them. You can open the hood (make sure to do that carefully because it breaks sometimes) to reveal a fingerprint scanner thing and TWO guns.
The headlights and bumper look cool.

This set goes well with Gold Tooths Getaway, because Swipe and Chase can both sit in the truck and they can both have a gun.

All in all, an amazing set. You should get it.

SPIDERS!

Posted by R.R in Netherlands on 21 July 2009

I got this set for my birthday and it became my favourite x-pod. The spider (main model) and the catapult (which ROCKS) are my favourite models.

The spider, which looks similar to the bigger spider in set 4994, can move his legs up and down because they are connected to the base with two technic pieces. The four front legs can also move from side to side because they are connected with click hinges. The abdomen can move up and down. It looks very realistic.

The scorpion (the 2nd model) is also pretty good although it has a few flaws. The legs are attached with one stud, so you can move them. They keep falling off though.

The catapult rocks. It's attached to the upper orange part of the x-pod with a technic pin, so it doesn't come off. It looks like a scorpion thing. You can put some pieces in the rear part of the 'body' and then you can launch them into the pod, which is fun to do when you're bored.

There are three pictures from inspiration models included: a crab thingy, a flying bug- looking thing and a different spider which looks similar to the main model.

You can combine this set with 4339 Aqua Pod to make a monster with glow-in-the-dark teeth and some pins for arms. The feet fall off really easily.

All in all, a great set. I recommend you to get it if you can. Thank you for reading.

Blue cars!

Posted by R.R in Netherlands on 20 July 2009

When the x-pods came out, this one was immediatly my favourite x-pod from 2004. I've built and rebuilt it so many times already, because it ROCKS! I've also built some of the models in different colors.

I'll review and rate each model individually.

Race car: Very cool. The headlights are perfectly placed at the front. The spoiler is moveable. And you can fit minifigures in it. I've made a second one in yellow. 10/10

Concrete mixer: Good. The mixing drum actually spins! And you can move it up and down! But it has no rear lights at the back (it could have done without the red light on top and with two red lights at the back). I've made a second one in red. 9/10

Bulldozer (inspiration model): Awesome. One of my favourite models. The bulldozer blade is moveable and it has the right color. It actually sweeps lego bricks away. The lights on top are perfectly placed and look good. The back has the right shape. I've made a second one in red. 10/10

Truck with ladder (inspiration model): WAY cool. My favourite model. It has the most features such as moveable stabilisation legs at the sides and a ladder that moves up and down and rotates 360 degrees. A very cool light on top. 11/10

Truck (inspiration model): A bit boring. My least favourite model. It looks too similar to the concrete mixer and the rotating piece at the back is useless because when a (MOC) trailer is attached, it can't spin because the studs get in the way. It looks pretty good though. 6.5/10

Robot: Cool. It has many features like a head that moves up and down and rotates 360 degrees, and 'ears' that move up and down. It uses wheels for eyes which I think is creative. The feet break off fairly easily though. 9.5/10

Rolling robot (inspiration model): Good. It uses wheels for eyes and it rolls :). It looks good, although it doesn't roll well and it won't stand up. 7/10

All in all, a great set. Thank you for reading.

A very good promotional set!

Posted by R.R in Netherlands on 20 July 2009

I got this set a few months ago for my birthday and it turned out to be excellent! It comes with very useful parts such as four great wheels, which are in my opinion the best wheels the Lego company has ever made.

There are instructions included for two different models: the truck (my favourite model in this set) and a car that looks like a combination between a police car and a rally car.

There are also pictures from inspiration models to build a race car, a dragster, and a big eight-wheeled truck that you can make if you have two sets.

There are two transparent 1x2 plates used for the windows of the cars. For this reason, it's good if you have two Brick Separators, because the plates are a pain to separate with your hands.

All in all, a very good set, just make sure you have two Brick Separators.
Thank you for reading my first review!
