Change of heart

Posted by james3426 in United States on 18 November 2009

I take that back about my last review. I realized that they made the Agori to go with their corresponding Glatorian. This used to bother me a lot, but now it doesn't bother me as much. I've noticed each Agori 'says' one of their corresponding Glatorian/Legend due to the colors. Here is the list. If an Agori is missing, that means I can't tell.

- Raanu-Malum (and somewhat Ackar because of the shield)
- Berix-Kiina (roughly)
- Tarduk-Vastus
- Metus-Strakk

Zesk does not count because Mata Nui does has some black but ZERO TAN and Mata Nui is not in the sand tribe. Now I am grateful that Raanu's torso is gray because he would look sooooo weird with a keetorange torso. The shield may look a little out of place, but for those who can't stand it, just take it off, or put it on Ackar.

pros:
Classic red shield
Fire blade
Very firey helmet
Fun to pose

cons:
Shield is a little out of place

I have had a big heart change about him. I might get another one of him to get more of these interesting pieces.

Super-Charged, Super Cool

Posted by james3426 in United States on 12 November 2009

I am glad my brother decided to get the limited version now, because it will be harder to find later. First things first; I will review Antroz first.

Antroz- Not that impressive. The color is mostly what I am talking about; It's bland! Sure, there is some black beneath that dark red, but not enough for me. He also looks NOTHING like his Phantoka form unlike the pilot versions of Lewa and Pohatu. I mean, he has a Piraka torso, and Inika style upper leg armor; nothing like the old Antroz. The only thing of interest on him is the new Kanohi Jutlin, which actually looks a little like the older one with those fangs. In all Antroz deserves a 3/5. (His shoulder armor brings it up. I like them)

Jetrax T6-This is an AMAZING vehicle! I think it is almost even cooler than the Axalara T9. If you have read my other reviews, you will know I like blades and shields. This has: 4 Aero Slicers; 2 Krika leg halves; 2 Brutaka rotating blades; a Hook Blade (Chirox's weapons); 6 Blizzard Blades; 2 twin cutters; and 3 multi-resistant shields. It's fun to "obliterate" a target with the three midak skyblasters. I love how the turbines can fold in and out. The design is very, very complex. It took my brother two hours to build. This huge craft deserves a 7/5!

This set is a must-have for Bionicle collectors who want a rare set. I highly recommend this, but the Axalara T9 still rules.

Best movie yet!

Posted by james3426 in United States on 09 November 2009

This is in my opinion, the best movie ever! There were a few parts though, that seemed a little abruptly ended. Please do not read the following if you have not seen it yet.

WARNING:HUGE SPOILERS!

I am not going to make a full summary, so click this link, then I will say what I thought of it:http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/BIONICLE:_The_Legend_Reborn.

Earlier when I said abruptly ending parts, I specifically mean the part where Mata Nui, Ackar, and Kiina are in the underground lab of the great beings and are talking about the great beings and why Mata Nui feels like he has been there before. To those of you who are wondering why there was more than one "Stronius" those were just special forces Skrall. Tuma appears to die here, but he did not (see here:http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/Tuma#Biography).
The way they made the Agori look the same from each tribe and all the Bone hunters look like Atakus was kind of weird though.

This is a very good movie which seems to be the most accurate movie since Mask of Light. I recommend this to any Bionicle fan.

Armpit?!

Posted by james3426 in United States on 08 November 2009

Now that you mention it Carl, it now looks like his thornax launcher is in his armpit. This does not bother me much though (It actually made me laugh hard!)
I wanted to tell you an easy solution if it bothers you. You could either switch the piece that makes the old hand piece (Also used to connect his head on) from the side to upwards, or put the thornax launcher between his claws (They actually work) Now I will redo the pros and cons:

pros:
Flame Claws.
Dark red Hordika Feet.
Pose-able (armpit mounted) thornax launcher.
(very) heavily armored.
Flaming roman helmet.
Chest cover

cons:
NONE!

In my last review, I was in a hurry, so I accidentally submitted it before I finish, so i will start that again; He is just plain cool.

Mata Nui

"I will return."

Posted by james3426 in United States on 03 November 2009

Mata Nui is a cool "Toa"/Glatorian. He has some problems though. My friend thinks the Kanohi Ignika screws him up completely, but I still like him. He is not the best, and greshmalum, I do not get why you think he is better than the big version.

My major complaint is the fact that he does not have the sword as he has. It is replaced with a thornax launcher, which is a good launcher, but it is only for use in the action figure game. I have made a movie-version sword though, that involves these pieces: Scarab Shield half; two axle connectors; a size six axle; and a solid silver shark tooth blade. (in order from hilt to tip. Except for those axle connectors that go on each side of the axle.) Based on that, I think you can guess how they go together. Tell me in your reviews if you think it looks like the sword from the movie.

The scarab shield looks cool, but when I first saw Mata Nui earlier this year before he came out I looked at the weapon and thought, "What kind of weapon is that?" It did not look like a shield then or now.

With the ankle armor, I forgot to mention my thoughts about how they move back and forth in my Ackar review, so I will do it now. I do not consider them a con because if they were stiff, they would limit pose-ability.

The Kanohi Ignika is tiny compared to the 2008 version, but he looks really weird replaced with a Toa Metru head, and the Toa Mata Nui Ignika on him. I have come to the conclusion that they shold have designed a completely different Ignika that can fit on a Toa Metru head, but has a rounder bottom. This mask though, would look cool if it was not in helmet style and was bigger.

By the looks of him, he is powerful with those shoulder blades and those Mahri armor plates as upper leg armor. Have you noticed that he is one of the first Bionicle sets to include keetorange Inika legs? I like this a lot!

pros:
Many recolors.
Kanohi Ignika has a rounder design than 2008.
Scarab Shield looks cool.
Shield halves are plentiful.
Ankle armor.

cons:
Ignika is tiny.
He is short.
No sword.

Not the best canister of 2009. I recommend Ackar much more.

Toa Onua

Unusual colors

Posted by james3426 in United States on 03 November 2009

Onua's colors, black, silver, and--what? Classic red? This is very unusual indeed! His wings and jets sort of stick out, but I do not care much. This actually helps out with those screaming red pins. I really like his type of chest armor. In my opinion, it works very well in conjunction with the Toa Metru chest cover. The new Pakari Nuva distantly resembles the old Pakari Nuva, which is good for older fans to bring back memories. The nynrah ghost blaster guard looks very cool and is good for MOCs. You can fit the nynrah ghost blaster on his back by just putting it there, no modifications. I like where they put the jets, on the back of his legs, because he can shoot strait up in the air. The designers must have wanted a different place to put his shield, because I love it! He can take it off his shoulder and use it as a shovel.

pros:
Classic red.
Shield is on his shoulder.
Kanohi Pakari Nuva.
Chest armor.
Nynrah Ghost Blaster with guard.

cons:
none.

Onua is in my opinion, is in third place for the Mistika. He is a must-have for Toa Nuva fans.

Deadly Fighter

Posted by james3426 in United States on 02 November 2009

Me and my brother got two of these since they were cheap enough. They got broken up, but I rebuilt one of them. I tried to rebuild the other one, but I could not find some important pieces. On to the review.

This fighter gave me hours of fun. It is even more fun with a vulture droid to fight with. The wings can move in many different positions and you can think up different "modes" for each one. I wish this included an entire astro-droid, because it only has a head. The clone is rare today, so I am glad I have two. The build is fairly easy and fun. I like the dark red, light gray, and dark gray color scheme.

pros:
Clone pilot
Rotating lasers
Color scheme
Wings are very move-able
Fun build

cons:
None

A cool star wars set. These are much better than the ones from 2008-2009 in my opinion.

"I fight with intelligence and elegance."

Posted by james3426 in United States on 02 November 2009

People are saying that Tarix is one of the worst Glatorian. Not true! He is almost better than Vorox or Gresh in my opinion. His water blades are very cool with those gold bases and translucent blue blades. These also make him look cool when you pose him, so it looks like he is paring them. The thornax launcher, as always, if you squeeze it in the right place, it fires far. I really like the golden armor on his chest, shoulders, and legs, which I think is a better shade of gold than the older 2003-2005 shade of gold. The helmet looks like a diver's helmet, and I have always wondered why he has that tube. It does not even say anything about that on BS01 Wiki. The spikes on his shoulders make him look like a true warrior, but they fall off easily. I lost one of these, but hopefully this friend that I have will let me have one. His hands and feet, which people say stick out, do not bother me much.

pros:
Gold armor.
Water blades.
Diver helmet.
Thornax launcher.
Looks good in many poses.

cons:
Spikes on shoulders fall off.

Tarix is a great Glatorian. I recommend him to any Bionicle fan.

"I would have ever-remembered you."-Lewa Nuva

Posted by james3426 in United States on 02 November 2009

This set is AMAZING! It is the second biggest Bionicle set ever (The first being the Skopio XV-1) First things first though. I will review Lewa Nuva first.

Lewa Nuva-Almost a copy of the Phantoka version. The only piece that looks cool is the Miru Nuva. It looks kind of like a frog, but I still like it. I also like the targeting HUD visor.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Axalara T9-An awesome vehicle. There are three main functions to it: The tri-arms fold out; the midak skyblasters fold out; and the landing gear folds down. If you want to keep it on a shelf with the tri-arms out, put it on the top longways so you can see all of the side, then fold them out. Since the tri-arms go a little past the edge of the shelf (At least with most shelves) so you can fold them out. One problem with the tri-arms though, is that they almost hit Lewa in the head.

Now for the building and pieces. The build takes about two and a half hours. There was some moments when I felt like quitting then and waiting for the next day because the technic building gets boring. Then, I got on to putting on the large armor pieces. This has many blades, shields, and other kinds of those usual silver pieces including: Nuparu shield halves, Staff of light blades, Matoran electro-blades, Bordakh staffs of loyalty, Kopaka wings, Matoran jet packs, air katana, and Bitl wings in classic red. There are more of those, but I kept seeing more, so I am not going to list any more.

pros:
Very complicated design.
Many interesting pieces.
Midak Skyblasters fold out.
Tri-arms fold out.
landing gear folds out.
HUGE!

cons:
Tri-arms almost hit Lewa
Lewa is copied from the Phantoka version.

This is an awesome set. I highly recommend this to anyone. Even my friend who does not like Bionicle had to admit this is very cool.

Toa Mata Nui

My tallest Bionicle!

Posted by james3426 in United States on 01 November 2009

Even though this does not look like the smaller version of Mata Nui much when it is supposed to and the fact that I prefer the scale in which every Bionicle is in, this is awesome! He is a head taller than Takanuva and over twice the size of the small Mata Nui. I am not sure if he is taller than Kardas, but as I said, he is super sized! His head looks a little too high, but I do not care much. This picture lies a little about the size of the scarab shield, because it is bigger than this picture. If you are careful enough, he can hold up a Skrall and more easily Atakus. His torso is completely custom: no Piraka torsos, no Inika torsos, no Toa Mahri Kongu torsos. He had to have either a Toa Metru lower torso or Vahki lower torso, and like what they chose, I like the Vahki type. His chest armor looks like the small version to me and I like the way they used an Inika foot and Mahri armor plates. His arms are the only thing that are not that pose-able.

pros:
Keetorange and black color scheme.
Scarab shield halves.
New scarab shield has a brilliant design.
Pose-able.
Completely custom design.
Golden 2008 Ignika.
Giant "Stinger Sword"

cons:
Bit yellow.
Head sticks up.

Get him before 2010 if you want him because he is a limited edition.

Scientist Makuta

Posted by james3426 in United States on 31 October 2009

This is my first review of one of my brother's sets. He is batlike, but not as much as Vamprah. The hook blades are very cool tools/weapons that look very lethal with their jagged edges. In this picture, it looks like the Kanohi Shelek, mask of silence is taller, when actually, it goes far back, but not even close to Krika-like. The wing-like arms I prefer to keep unfolded so I can pose him in many different ways. I like the idea of using Piraka arms to let them fold up. The tridax pod is okay as I said in the other Makuta reviews, but same problem of not always opening. i have also noticed now that the shadow leeches are easy to lose, since my brother dropped the pod once and one leech he could not find. The only other problem I see is those bright, screaming red axles that connect the upper leg armor to the leg. They stick out like crazy! I would replace them with black ones.

pros:
Hook blades.
clawed feet.
Kanohi Shelek.
Wings.
Loooong arms.

cons:
Screaming red axles STICK OUT.
Tridax pod does not always open.

The cons are not very big, so I still recommend him to any Bionicle fan.

"That deploy platform sometimes accidently falls off, stormtropers"

Posted by james3426 in United States on 31 October 2009

I got this set because I wanted to stage a battle with the rebel scout speeder. The stormtroopers did not disappoint me, but that deploy platform is so annoying! It breaks off even if you do not release it! The rest is good, like the place they put the rifles. Now I no how to make a good gun storage. I really like that rare shadow trooper.

pros:
Cool design
Shadowtrooper
Stormtroopers
Imperial insignias
Rifles

cons:
That annoying depoy platform!

I do not tell you to get this set, but if you want the pieces, like the shadowtrooper, feel free.

Yawn

Posted by james3426 in United States on 31 October 2009

This set looks like a designer was looking at a picture of a movie version, and was in a hurry, so he made it move-able, but not as much as people would like. As a result, it gets boring after one to two days. I mostly got this because of the clones and droids, which did not disappoint me, because the clones are very detailed and the droids never seem to get old. There was also some rare colored pieces like the red eye and the brown axle connectors. The bottem cannon is rather fragile.

pros:
Clones are awesome.
Droids.
Rare colored pieces.

cons:
Gets boring quickly.
Not that pose-able.
Bottom cannon is fragile.
Boring build.

I would not get this star wars set. Star Wars was much better in 2006 than 2008-2009.

Most playable mini

Posted by james3426 in United States on 31 October 2009

This set, unlike the Ventor mini, is very playable. The legs and cannons can move, but the middle legs move sideways, so I keep them in the down position. The translucent clear pieces are one of my favorite pieces here, like all clear pieces. This is also very clone wars movie accurate, since there are four cannons in the front, and a big cannon on the top.. I would have gotten two, but that would mean you would have to get two brickmaster subscriptions, which is $80 USD!

pros:
Playable mini
Very detailed
Move-able font and back legs
Move-able cannons.
Good for display

cons:
Middle leg cannot move forward

Even though there are cons here and no cons on my mini-Ventor review, this in my opinion is a better set.

Very detailed Mini

Posted by james3426 in United States on 30 October 2009

This set does not look like it was ment to play with, but rather to display. you could also break it up for the interesting pieces it has and put the pieces in a separate container if you want to build it back sometime. On to the review.

As I said before, this set was ment for display, not playing, but this is okay with me in this case. The interesting pieces I mentioned are very rare. The two pieces I am mainly talking about are (according to bricklink): Slope, inverted 45 3 by 1 double; Trans-Clear Brick, Round 2 by 2. The double slope is very useful for some MOCs, while the translucent clear round brick can be used for displaying small models. The laser cannons on the side are semi-turnable, which I like.

pros:
Fun to build.
Cool pieces.
Semi-moveable laser cannons.
Good for display.

Cons:
None

This is a cool brickmaster exclusive. If you can find this, this is a big opportunity, so i would get it.

I will disintegrate you!

Posted by james3426 in United States on 30 October 2009

This is an okay set, but like most small sets, it is boring by itself. The vehicle itself has a cool design. It also has accessories, which are good for people who make lego cities. The Rahkshi Lerahk staff of poison head looks like it could just disintegrate a rock wall or a rock monster and it vibrates when you push the vehicle forward or backward.. I like the dynamite because of the detail on it.. The light on the top sometimes falls off and so does the hatchet. The crystal-transporting sled is a little unnecessary, but it is good for an MOC. I like any set with chains, so this is one source of them. Glaciator is cool, but he is too simple. Like most Power Miners sets, this has stickers with texture.

pros:
Lerahk staff head.
vibrating function.
Hatchet.
Crystal.
Cool build.
Stickers with texture.

cons:
Gets boring quickly.
Uninteresting without anything else.
Pull sled is unnecessary.

This is a good set, but if you want to get a cheap Power Miners set, get the Mine Mech.

Brings back Memories

Posted by james3426 in United States on 30 October 2009

When I was--I can't remember what age, I got this set as a gift I think. I really liked it, but back than, I did not take care of my legos, and it got broken and mixed into a lego box. Since then, I have grown very interested with lego, and built this back. Some pieces I could not find and one piece got broken, but I replaced them with different colored ones. It is still cool, but it is now kind of boring by itself. I really like the way it transforms into a helicopter. The guns in the front droop downward, which I find annoying. The Onua Nuva quakebreakers are in gray, but I still like them. The Kopaka Nuva ice blade is also in gray, but I still like it. The ice orb is made of four pieces, my favorite of which being the minifigure head inside it. Charge is one vof my favorite minifigures because of his face, helmet, and torso, which are all awesome.

pros:
Ice blade.
Quakebreakers.
Translucent orange pieces.
Cool design.
Awesome windshield.
Transforms.
Ice orb
Charge.

cons:
Boring by itself.

This is a very cool Alpha Team set. I recommend this to any old set collectors.

The Elite Toa of Air

Posted by james3426 in United States on 30 October 2009

I got him from a friend who had him broken up and mixed in his lego boxes. I found most his important pieces , which are the Bionicle pieces, not the technic pieces (I could not find the gold Rhotuka). The head of the Cyclone spear was "battle damaged", but it was okay. I really like all the gold pieces, especially the Gahlok-Kal magnetism shield. The rhotuka launching shield is cool and fires far, but the rhotuka in the position were it launches falls out easily. The Kanohi Kualsi, mask of quick-travel, looks like a smaller version of a Vahki head.

pros:
Gold pieces.
Cyclone Spear.
Rhotuka launching Shield.
Semi-custom Toa Metru design.
Kanohi Kualsi.

cons:
Rhotuka falls out.

He is hard to find today, but do not let that get your hopes down. Try to get him if you find him.

Toa Hahli

Very Electrical

Posted by james3426 in United States on 30 October 2009

Hahli's color scheme is very interesting. Her feet, lower legs, and shoulder armor are a rather unusual blend of blue and white, which I think is very cool! The Kanohi Elda, mask of detection, looks like a very tired face, because of those huge "bags" under the eyeholes that go to the back of it. I have noticed that every Toa Inika mask has a "mouth" except for Matoro. On to the Toa Tools. One day, a Star Wars-crazed little kid came to my house and wanted a lightsaber, so when I was not looking, he took a scissor to the laser harpoon. Now, I only have a broken half of it and the zamor launcher. It shoots well, but the top zamor falls out easily. The chest armor and zamor launcher kind of sticks out, but I am okay with it.

pros: (Excluding laser harpoon)
Blended blue and white.
Kanohi Elda.
Zamor launcher
Nice choice of feet.

cons:
none

This is a great Toa of Water. I do not have another Toa Inika, but I think you should get her with another one.

The inventive Piraka

Posted by james3426 in United States on 29 October 2009

This is my only Piraka that I have. (My brother has the other three on my collection) He is also my only pure brown Bionicle, with a lighter brown color as his secondary color. I notice some Bionicle sets have have three colors and Avak is no exception. His upper torso, seismic pickaxe, and zamor launcher are dark metallic gray. Some people think think that the fact that one shorter arm is a problem, but it does not bother me. His feet are one of my favorite types with two long toes. On the downside, his head is hard to move due to the way it is attached to his torso and how the spine parts on his arms go to the main part of it, and that goes up to his head, resulting in his head and arms having limited pose-ability. This is my first normal set review without pros and cons, because I do not have time.
