The 'Adventurers' theme was the first to acquire a new 'passenger bucket' piece that cleverly turns a four-stud wide base into a five-stud wide seating area, effectively allowing two mini-figs to sit side-by-side. This piece is widely used in the 'Adventurers' line as it lends itself to building 'period-style' vehicles.

When the Adventurers left the desert and Amazon to find the Lost World, their vehicles took a turn for the more specialized, as evidenced by this car which still uses the five-stud-wide 'passenger bucket' but is heavily modified for off-road duty with tank-like treads instead of wheels.

Taking a different tactic, the Speed Racer road cars are built on an astounding eight-stud-wide standard allowing two full seats, and a two-stud-wide center console area.

When the Indiana Jones line began, LEGO dusted off the molds for the five-stud-wide 'passenger bucket' and used it to nearly its fullest extent. Here we have two vehicles that COULD have benefitted from this piece, but only the truck actually utilizes it - the Jeep can only accommodate two passengers in tandem style, one driving while the other mans the gun.

This one might not really belong on this list because while it does feature two seats next to each other, they are DIRECTLY next to each other without even a single-stud row between them. The driver can sit comfortably (and affixed to the seat) while the passenger might have to lean over the side a bit... so maybe it doesn't really count. Still, it's a cool looking vehicle, so I left it in.

This set features probably the most elaborate vehicles to ever use the 'passenger bucket' design, both beautifully exhibiting the shapes of the era and the particular cars they are meant to represent from 'Temple of Doom'.

In this set, the fuel truck utilizes the 'passenger bucket' piece. Good thing there's no one sitting in it, as its fate is rather dire.
