Spaceship! Spaceship!!! SPACESHIP!!!

By in Netherlands,

Those big flowers, and animal faces really remind me of Basic theme sets of like mid 80s and earlier 90s.

Also for those sets, I always look up parts lists, as those brick piles aren't the best way to see the full contents, for example pictures can be cropped, some parts used in builds, or just hidden in a pile.

There are tons of wheels and tires in the parts piles for the car set but also quite a number of transparent bricks.

I like that the house set also has more focus on non-glass windows, as well as all being the same color, makes them more useful as parts pack or for larger builds.

Space set most interesting feature are the various glow in the dark parts imo.

Interestingly this also has the space subtheme! its been in Dreamzzz, Friends, city, technic, creator and now classic!

And Duplo 10422 - 3in1 Space Shuttle Adventure (name not to be confused with 31117 : Space Shuttle Adventure) But it comes with a light brick and a duplo version of a green blob alien seen in Friends and City.

Is there another time when a subtheme crossed over to so many other themes?

Come on guys, give us a standalone Lego Space theme. You know you want to...

I honestly think this cross-theme is the easier option for LEGO, instead of going full on marketing another unlicensed theme, which nowadays is a hit or miss, with TV show, app, magazine , book or movie to go with it.

Since after Pirates 2015, there has not really been a standard "theme" that just housed a single of the classic subjects like Space / Pirates / Castle, it's mostly been scattered around Ideas, Creator, Icons and some GWPs.

The last thing that came close to a space "theme" was LEGO Movie 2, but once again, that was sort of in-house licensed, and was based on a movie, had books and magazines and even cross-theme things like brickheadz and merchandise. (and no ,Nexo Knights never went to space, it was just future-scifi castle, altho the main castle did have an escape rocket shuttle)

Ninjago did themed waves for a while as well with underwater, islanders, steampunk sky pirates etc, but it's still ninjago, Monkie kid had a few space sets, but again, not standalone themes.

By in Australia,

These are certainly great, but one thing I have noticed now seeing all major themes is that we are now well and truely seeing the death of the small sub 200 piece set (polybags not withstanding) and that's pretty sad. With cost of living already making Lego a real luxury, it's going to be even harder for kids.

And still more Space??? And glow in the dark parts, too? 2024 is the year of Space--I sure hope they're ramping up for even more!

I'd imagine that was all planned a while ago, to coincide with the Artemis missions, renewed interest of space exploration via a crewed moon mission (Landing planned for December 2025, but Artemis 2 will happen before that, with a Crewed flight around the moon, and the furthest distance humans have ever been from earth ) .

Also the Lunar Gateway program is set to start launching around 2025-2028 to serve as a start for further moon and space missions.

I mean, City 2022 Space was literally Nasa Artemis in LEGO City form, but perhaps the delays gave LEGO a bit of room to go it's own way of sci-fi exploration, while also still having Nasa related products available like the 10283 : NASA Space Shuttle Discovery or 42158 : NASA Mars Rover Perseverance

With 10266: NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander and 21309: NASA Apollo Saturn V / 92176: NASA Apollo Saturn V having been around for quite some years as well (Apollo 11 until 31Dec23, and Saturn V re-released, and then was available until 31Dec22)

Loving the cross-theme Space stuff. Really hoping this is the start of an annual concept with a different sub-theme each year. Admittedly that’s mostly to see what Friends and Technic would do with Castle and Pirates.

By in Czechia,

Waaait. Is it the Vibrant Coral colour in the Creative Houses, or is it new red?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These all look great fun, bright and colourful.
The new logo really pops too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Interesting that Creator seems to have aged up and Classic aged down for next year. More differentiation between the core themes seems like a good move for parents looking to find the next step up from Duplo.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Oh, come on! The space box could be GREAT if it had one or two cones for engines!

Really unimpressed with the official photo ads Lego used for these. Girls play with houses and animals, and boys play with cars and space science toys? Really? They are still doing that old trope. Unimpressed.

Sadly for some, boys are still different than girls. And so are their interests. Target audience is a thing in marketing.

By in Puerto Rico,

Magnificent, truly magnificent.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Why brand it Space and not include a single reference to the old sets or even some parts from the era that are still available? What a waste, this is just a generic Space themed set they release like every year (and the latest one was much more Space '78 than this since it included some of the classic parts)

Gravatar
By in Spain,

This is not the Classic Space I was looking for.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like some of the stuff I've seen so far, but my list is looking remarkably cheap at the moment, compared to how much I spent for Xmas, I keep waiting for the expensive sets to be released.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Classic just might be the most underrated theme. It's nice to be able to just go out and buy a set of parts to add to your collection.

I'd just like 6 months of the Train, if possible. Common LEGO, you've thrown us breadcrumbs every once in a while, but we need an actual THEME! Maybe with a Santa Fe reboot? With all the new parts made since 2002, surely they would sell better than the old ones?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Time for a revamped version of the Harry Potter Astronomy Tower? Probably not, since the 2020 version is still available (although currently backordered) at lego.com. Maybe a Hogwarts Moments set with Firenze?

Yes a train theme please! I spent a fortune on the Emerald Night because I only found it on eBay and I decided to mox a couple of carriages and a fortune on the HP large because its a train! And I ordered the Orient for xmas. I would love more.

11037 Creative Space Planets is missing Pluto.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The cross-theme "Space" branding is really interesting. I can't recall Lego ever doing something like that before. It's probably not quite what the nostalgic Classic Space fans were hoping for, but I think it's great to see Lego trying something new.

Sadly, Pluto was demoted from being a planet back in 2006 or so.
Fun fact: since it's discovery in 1930, Pluto has not completed a single orbit, since it takes ~248 years to orbit the sun once. It will complete an orbit in 2178... so mark your calendars!

Wait What! The sets include ideas? without step-by-step instructions???? the audacity!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the idea of the Space branded Classic set but I wish they would have given us more of the classic space blue and gray bricks.

Yeah , I started to appreciate it a lot more with 2023 box 11030 that just has normal bricks equally distributed across 10 colors. Hope it gets another variant of color palette afterwards, with like grey(s), regular blue, brown , tan, bright/regular green etc.

I wonder if they'll do a Technic catapult in castle year.
