AFOLCON and the LEGO show: new venue and date
Posted by Huw,
If you ordered tickets for The LEGO Show at the O2 you will have received an email today stating that the event has moved venue and date. We contacted the organiser Warren who has provided this information:
An Apology to our fellow fans.
We’re truly sorry for the disruption.
As you will have seen, we’ve just announced that The LEGO Show, planned for May in The O2 is moving. In fact we’re going just over the river to a much larger venue at ExCel London, but in late November. To reflect the move, we’re also taking on a new name: “BRICK 2014 – Built for LEGO fans”.
We’re excited for the move, because it means that we are able to include far more fans – as visitors and exhibitors. Our venue has tripled in size and with that we’re able to make EVERY ticket a full day ticket!
With new conferencing facilities, we’re also able to add on another full public event day without loosing any AFOLCON content – or requiring you to take any more time off work!
We’re sorry that this will of course cause disruption for some of you. Sadly, this disruption is due to circumstances beyond our control and was not something that we were able to avoid. We’re fans ourselves, so since we became aware of these changes the team have been working around the clock - and across Europe - to put these new plans in place and get the message out to all of you as quickly as possible.
With our move though, we’ve been given the chance to put on an even more amazing AFOL show than ever before. ExCeL is a truly international exhibition venue with amazing facilities and we really hope that you’ll join with us to welcome this great new development. In fact, it’s the same venue that hosts London ComiCon. With an extra 5 months of building time, we would love to take this opportunity to showcase to the world just how amazing the creations of LEGO fans can be.
Can you help us make that happen?
Warren Elsmore.
For more information relating to our shows, please contact [email protected].
For any general information regarding The LEGO Group, please pass these requests to your local LEGO Ambassador - who will be able to pass them onto The LEGO Group directly.
For those of you who’ve already bought tickets or been in touch with us – we’ve got a few important points for each of you:
Public (The LEGO Show) ticket holders:
If you have bought any ticket for the public show, you’ll soon be receiving an email direct from The O2 box office. You will be offered the option of a full refund or the option to change your tickets to the new dates. Remember, ALL tickets are now full day tickets with no time restrictions – and there will be more standard and VIP tickets available on every day.
AFOLCON Ticket holders:
We’ll be emailing all of you directly to let you know the new details. With more available rooms and shorter public show days, AFOLCON will now run as a full day on the Wednesday, followed by three evening sessions throughout the weekend. We’re still working on bringing you the best available content from around the LEGO community – watch this space for some exciting announcements!
If you can’t make the new dates, or simply want a refund, please email in[email protected] and we’ll arrange that for you immediately.
Volunteers and traders:
We’ve got your details, so don’t worry – we’ll be in touch with each of you directly soon with many more details.
Fan builders:
With our move to a new venue we’ve now more space to give to fans – and we can invite even more fans to come and join us! We want to show the best LEGO displays each country can offer – so why not come to London and represent your country?
We’ll be promoting each display online and at the event and we’d love to see what you can do. Remember that exhibiting fans receive FREE accommodation, food and AFOLCON attendance, plus access to request funding for transport. No challenge or display is too large….
For the many of you that have already submitted to display – we’ll be in touch directly with each of you to check if you can make the new dates. We’ll then be accepting displays as soon as possible (many immediately) – to let you plan your travel.
The final deadline to register to display will be later this year.

Does anyone know the exact dates? I'll very likely be able to go to this now, but will need to book the time off work fairly soon.
27th -> 30th according to http://www.excel-london.co.uk/whats-on/?month=11&year=2014
Huw: Given the date change, it might make sense to change the post image here that has the old dates in it. It's a little confusing.
Thanks losimagic, I wonder if that means AFOLCON will be from 24 - 26 Nov?
^^ Yes, when there is one available I will do so.
I won't be there now, unfortunately, I'll be on a cruise ship in the Caribbean...
That's a pity, Huw, but I'm sure the cruise will be lots of fun.
There's an image at http://www.axs.com/uk/series/571/-tickets?skin=axs_ukmars btw, linked to from the afolcon facebook page.
Thanks, grabbed...
That's a pretty drastic change as changes go, and it won't be on my birthday any more which is a shame for me! Still, this is pretty good notice, and it sounds like there was no way it could be helped.
Brilliant, had booked non refundable airline tickets, just as well I hadn't booked a hotel too.
Has Lego asked them/told them not to call it the Lego Show? as people might think it is run by Lego
I have never, ever been to a LEGO convention or been part of a LUG. One of these days...
DaraghO; fortunately refunding my train and hotel only cost me a tenner for several hundred pounds worth.
SMC; Yeah, the change of name is worrying. Maybe TLG backed out and the booking couldn't be remade as a stand alone event.
