Mimic Dice Box GWP returns!

Posted by ,

6510865 Dungeons & Dragons Mimic Dice Box has unexpectedly returned to LEGO.com, free with the purchase of 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale.

This set quickly ran out of stock when the Ideas set was released in April, so it may not last for long this time either. In theory, however, this promotion will continue until the 28th of July.

Nice. Happy for folks who wanted this second chance. Now I hope the Fell Beast comes back!

I have no words, after deliberating for months we have literally bought this set in the store on Saturday. How unlucky can you be!

Have you bought the set at an official LEGO store? If so, contact costumer support via the website, they're often lenient in cases like this, especially if you're a regular customer.

Hmmm...did 21348 not sell enough after all? (hence this renewed incentive)

I did note that WB still had a few of their LE cases for 21348 even though we are well on from April.

Were the naysayers right about the price point? Perhaps some clued-up Bricksetter can enlighten us.

I am aware that there exists a plethora of merchandise for the D&D anniversary so perhaps the money was spent elsewhere.

I waited for double points when I bought the DnD set. That was worth more to me than this mimic. But, it is pretty cool (just not worth the extra $18 in points to me).

So, uh... are we allowed to talk about the CMF leak? Because I know literally nothing about D&D but I NEED that Aarakocra ranger because the wings would be PERFECT for Chima Eagles

They sell for about 4x that amount.

Same here...

I guess you really *can't* be sure there isn't a mimic lying in wait for you...

This is bad form by LEGO as much as I appreciate a second chance. How many folks bought this set during the original window but didn’t get the GWP?

My family did the exact same thing. And my husband really wanted the mimic but no willing to buy from resellers. So frustrating

By in Germany,

Great! Now please bring back the Fellbeast too! I don't buy from scalpers LEGO freebies.

I'm half wondering if the intent of doing this again was in the hope of people buying the full set of D&D minifigures with it. Kinda surprised we've not had an official reveal of them yet given they've been all over youtube for the last week.

Talk to online chat support. I purchased in store on Saturday. They still have the promo in stock so they said they would mail me one. Yay for great customer service.

I guess I am confused. This looks like a pretty simple set. Can it not be built with normal pieces? I understand people like having the box and even keeping it sealed. I guess I don't know much about the mimic or D&D as a whole to know the appeal.

I hope everyone that wants one gets one.

By in United States,

NOOOO! I wanted that mimic, but missed out when it sold out so fast. ...so I bought the set anyway. (Why would I think the mimic would ever return?) Now they have it with the mimic again?! I'm so disappointed. I wanna flip some tables over!

Except for the eyes [which part https://brickset.com/parts/design-102975 makes an excellent replacement for], it is almost entirely very common parts, and all the parts are available on PaB [again, excepting the exclusive orange eyes]. To be honest, I prefer the substituted eyes.

Feels pretty lousy for all the people that ordered 21348 , but didn't get the Mimic due to the limited stock during the initial launch window.

Normal release pattern has them over a month out, so there’s still plenty of time for an official reveal. Images of the D&D minifigs actually showed by before the Space wave, I think. Something to do with licensor approval, and then they got leaked.

@Sethro3:
Eye prints are not only unique, but you don’t get a spare eye tile. All the value is in those four tiny tiles and the printed instruction book. The box isn’t even special, as it’s one of the yellow boxes with an opening in front that allows the instructions cover to double as the box artwork.

At symbol is for people, pound sign is for sets.

Whoops! It sure is!

I had it, then I changed it cause I thought it worked for parts as well as sets, but it wouldn't link for the part, so I changed both to at-symbols thinking maybe I'd mixed it up, when that also didn't work for the part, and changed it to the direct link, I forgot to change the set back to the hash-tag!

By in United States,

I was able to get the D&D set in a slightly damaged box for 10% off in my local LEGO store about a month ago. So I'm happy with the savings even though the GWP would have been a nice addition. As others have mentioned, other than the exclusive eye tile this will be easy enough to replicate.

Or the exact reverse: 21348 sold so well that LEGO underestimated the rate at which they needed to churn out Mimic sets to keep pace, disappointing fans.

Would have been nice if they timed the promo to coincide with the CMF release rather just some random timeframe like now. Fortunately I won't suffer FOMO since I'll be getting the CMF's elsewhere through a guy I know.

Nothing works for parts except copy/paste the URL.

This also works for minifigs and sets with letters in the name, for which hashtags will not work. For instance, https://brickset.com/sets/CELEBVI-1/Mini-Slave-I

Yup, those are mildly irritating. Fortunately, I don't have much call to tag them. And sometimes you need to link to Bricklink's catalog for stuff that's not in Brickset's system, like Advent Calendar models (Brickset only inventories the complete set, while Bricklink inventories each day separately).

Apparently because complete days of ACs can be sold as sets on BL.

@Modeltrainman:
Well, because people want to buy specific models. In the same way, you can buy whole, multi-part animals, and even some sub-models. But it hits you kinda weird when you want to tag one AC mini, and it turns out your only option (unless it's a minifig) is to tag the entire set.
