Blocks Magazine issue 1: On sale next Thursday

Posted by ,

Issue one [*] of Blocks magazine hits the newsagents' shelves on Thursday next week. Here's what the cover will look like. We (the Blocks team) have been hard at work over the last few months working on it and I'm confident you'll enjoy it.

If you haven't already subscribed, if you do so now you'll receive a limited edition minifigure of magazine editor Mark. Find out more at Blocksmag.com.

We have a few sample spreads that we will share with you over the weekend, and don't forget if you think we're featuring too many articles about the magazine, you can opt out of seeing them in your news preferences.

[*] The issue published in May was a pilot, issue 0 :-)

Probably won't get it, bit expensive when I am trying to get Road Plates...

By in United Kingdom,

Good luck everyone who worked on it! How many pages does it contain, Huw?

Only if I had the money...

Available at Barnes & Noble in USA, correct?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am so excited about this release! Same question as GreenNinjaCP...although if it's not available at B&N in the States, where might we be able to pick it up?

By in Netherlands,

No Minifig for early subscribers? If so, then not good guys. Look after your existing customers as well as your new ones - brand loyalty 101.

Nice Work Looking forward to my centrefold spread from the Golden Brickie Awards

By in Switzerland,

I know that there is an argument against this, but I would consider buying a PDF version over a print version - any mag I tend to buy is the PDF version. I don't have space for the printed one. I have a TB of space to store an electronic one.

Yes, not sure if it'll be on Thursday but pretty soon after I suspect.

I'm told a digital version is in the works.

By in New Zealand,

I've been wondering about when the next issue of this magazine would be published.
So it will be monthly from that point on?
What reward will those customers receive who showed confidence in this magazine's potential and invested in an early subscription? I hope something will be offered.

By in United Kingdom,

Good point "flagsnz." Early subscribers are being penalised by the release of this exclusive minifig now.
Hopefully a reward will be forthcoming with the editions being posted out soon.

By in Canada,

Does anyone know if and where this will be available in Canada? thanks

By in United States,

Am I correct in figuring that 24 issues to "the rest of the world" (USA) is 310$?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw: That's interesting. I may consider that one...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I have subscribed for 12 months. Finger's cross, that it is worth its price to some extent.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have checked weekly for over a month at three B&N stores here in Arizona, US and they still cannot find any details on the magazine at all in their computer system

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thirded! Don't be penalising those of us that signed up early.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd love to get it, but $150 is too much to spend for only 12 issues. :(

That would be wonderful! Blocks does sound very interesting but I already have too many printed magazines piling up--I definitely can't begin buying any new ones! A digital version is all I can allow myself.

By in Singapore,

I just dropped them a note on how unhappy I am. To think back now, I felt very foolish on how I was telling myself to quickly subscribed so as to boost the magazine's success. Well, looks like my support should go somewhere else.

By in Australia,

To everyone that is whinging about not getting a free minifigure - grow up.
You subscribed - showed support for a great magazine - and now they're the worst people in the world.

It is pretty shocking to think that something so trivial could cause so much backlash.
Maybe they didnt get the numbers required to make it viable - yet they would have run at a loss to keep those that did subscribe happy.

Honestly, it's very petty.
I subscribed for a 24 month period the moment it came up and paid $375AUD.

Oh dear, a $5 minifig, i didn't get.
Woe is me - because a minifig is a deal breaker.

Pathetic

I signed up after the 'exclusive' gift was first mentioned but no sign... I'm guessing they'll be posted with issue 1?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was hoping for a 2x2 tile printed with a copy of Blocks anyway...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I subscribed (12 months UK) on Monday, received the minifigure on Thursday, and the magazine arrived this morning. Happy customer here!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Magazine just arrived but no gift. I wouldn't have been bothered about missing out because of subscribing early but the minifigure was mentioned before I subscribed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Magazine arrived also.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yay! Mine just arrived in the post :-)

How exciting! And I'm to Legoland today too. Legotastic!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

"Good luck everyone who worked on it! How many pages does it contain"

116 pages from cover to cover.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yep, magazine dropped through the door today. Unsurprisingly, no minifigure, despite subscribing early. So am left with the mixed feeling of having the magazine and being disappointed at being an undervalued customer at issue 1...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Where'd the minifigure thing come from? I didn't hear anything about this and I think I subscribed pretty much as soon as the page went up.

Anyhoo, got the mag this morning. Pretty good, much like the first one. Certainly lots of content for the money, compared to a lot of skinny hobby magazines you can buy. My only two qualms, they don't give star ratings for reviews (nice to be able to lazer in on the good stuff!), and like most magazines these days, it all seems rather out of date for anyone who visits brickset. And a dedicted minifig collector column would be nice!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Took out the 24 month subscription in August and mine arrived this morning...with an additional three copies (or what I assume are three extra copies as they've all come from Blockhead Media). Anyone else received more than they were expecting?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I don't care one bit for minifigs, but I do care about the quality of the actual magazine. I sure hope this issue won't have half a dozen typos on every single page like the pilot did. I dropped them a note a while ago volunteering as a proofreader, but never heard back. We'll see.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I received my copy today as well. I proof read (but not necessarily edited) most of the articles so I hope you'll find fewer errors than in the pilot issue. I've only found one so far, a missing full-stop in my column.

Speaking of which, I wrote it at the end of September with minor revisions a week or so later and time has already proven some of it to be incorrect, in particular the Greenpeace/Shell part, new information about which became available 9 days ago.

I guess that's one of the 'joys' of printed media production.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Got my copy today in the post. :)

Gravatar

No sign of my copy yet.

By in United Kingdom,

I subscribed way back in the summer too and so was pleasantly surprised when mine arrived today as I'd forgotten all about it. No minifig of course, but then I hadn't signed up for one - just the 12-issues-for-11 original offer. It's easier for me to say that though as it's not a minifig I would have wanted anyway.

Personally I can't imagine being sanctimonious about those people who chose to complain, but fair enough, each to their own. I do understand other people's confusion and disappointment though and maybe Huw - and/or one of the others here associated with the magazine - will address this to nip it in the bud. Not that they should have to, mind.

Anyhow, great work on the magazine guys. My first issue and I'm loving it despite only having had time to flick through. My (almost) seven-year-old daughter inexplicably had first dibs! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've been tempted to subscribe but I tend to read everything on the iPad these days. Here's hoping a digital version will be available in the not-too-distant future along with back-issues.....please!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Mine arrived today, nobody notice the error on the Minifigure competition page?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Mine arrived on my doormat this morning :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks pretty nice but not @$12+ an issue. Wouldn't pay that for any magazine.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I too was a very early subscriber to blocks, giving support to get this magazine off the ground.. Although the talk of a free minifigure dose not mean too much extra, it dose however surprise me how they would not realise how giving an extra to late subscribers and not to the early subscribers wouldn't cause anger to subscribers... Way to start your new magazine blocks!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can anybody please tell me if I could subscribe in the US? I'm not entirely sure if I'd can, but I don't want to have to buy every issue, as it is so much cheaper just with subscribing to it. I haven't really been following these articles, as I haven't been interested in it until now...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^ Yes you can.

By in United Kingdom,

@Huw re: mistakes
I don't normally read the contents page of magazines, but this one is special. First mistake thus found on page 4.

The entry for "32 YorBrix..." says 'tocheck' instead of 'to check'

But now you mention full stops, page 22's entry has one, while the rest don't :-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I didn't proof read the contents :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ok, at the risk of sounding like a pedant or smart-arse...

Page 11, second last sentence:

"Bt the time you read this, you'll probably know [what] it is."

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well spotted. I didn't proof read that page, I just wrote it :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm heading to London for the weekend. Is there a particular store I should look for that would carry the magazine?
