Review: 42676 Fun Water Park Day

Much of the world has experienced some extreme heat this summer, and I expect most people would enjoy a nice day beside the pool. The Friends designers must have been prescient, as they've come up with a set perfect for this summer: 42676 Fun Water Park Day.
This set is in one of my sweet spots for Friends set - the $30 range - so I have high hopes that this will be a fun set with plenty of play value.

A fun play set with plenty of pets!
- Excellent new animal expressions

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.
Inside the box there are three numbered bags, one 8x16 plate and one 10x10 half circle plate, a small slide piece, two instruction books, and a small sticker sheet.
It's clear from the sticker sheet that the water park day is as much for the pets (or maybe moreso) than it is for the people, considering the stickers decorated with paw prints.
Minidolls and animals
Two fo the regular crew are in this set - Nova and Leo. Nova's outfit we've seen before, but I'm not sure I've seen Leo's rather trippy shirt, which I think is kind of cool. I do like that both Friends have gone matchy-matchy with the shoe colour.
The pets are the stars of this set. Nova has brought along her dog Pickle (who comes with sunglasses that I didn't include in the picture). Everyone's favourite grumpy cat (and Leo's pet) Churro is here, with a new bemused expression and a sou'wester hat. I think Churro's expression might be his reaction to someone trying to get him into the pool. Cats and water generally aren't a good mix.
Rounding out the pet crew is Lucky the guinea pig (I'm not sure which Friend they belong to), and Zac's pug Dango, sporting a pretty rad pair of sunglasses. I think Dango's sunglasses alone are worth the price of admission.
The completed model
The water park does indeed look like it has plenty to keep the Friends and their pets occupied for the day.
On one end of the park, there's a nice lounging area for the Friends and their pets. Though I notice there are two loungers for the Friends, and two for their pets - but there are four animals. Somebody is going to get left out! At least there's food and water left out for the four-legged friends.
There's also ice cream for the Friends, though I'm not sure of the wisdom of leaving that outside of the cooler. Still, it's a nice storage spot. The palm tree and umbrella in the area provide just enough shade.
The back of the model doesn't look that exciting, though it does give a first look at the elevator function.
This angle shows the elevator in more detail, and I think this shows that the water park is clearly geared toward the pets, as the sticker on the elevator has the paw prints! It's a nifty little elevator that can be manually raised to the top of the slide to allow the pets to splash down.
Also seen in this picture is the splat gear used to move the rotating fountain - a nice addition of a moving function in the set.
Here, the lift has been raised to the top, where the pet/Friend will get doused with water as they go down the slide. The rotating fountain looks like fun - I like the water spray atop of the colourful support.
The slide (which I believe is new in this colour) splashes down in the main pool, which features a large floatie in the middle. Stairs and another pet ramp allow the pets access and egress to the pool.
That got me thinking - those ramps look a little small. What about Pickle? Sadly, it looks like Pickle's wheels are just a little too wide to get on the elevator.
I think Pickle's wheels wouldn't do well on the slide anyway. So what about the pool? It looks like Pickle's wheels are a little too wide for that as well!
Well, there's always the lounge area, right? There is, unless there are interlopers there....

Overall thoughts
This is a fun set that does everything advertised. It's not the fanciest water park, but it has all the basics needed (namely, a pool, a slide, and a fountain), and a nice lounge area off the side that accommodates the Friends and their pets. The animals are the stars of this set, especially Churro with his new expression and Dango with his sunglasses. I'd like to see another minidoll for this set, though that is offset a bit with having four animals.
For the price point, this has a lot going on, and does have plenty of play value. I'm not sure I quite see this as a $30 set, I think if the usual 20% off sales come into effect, this would be worth considering.

Considering the fact this set has quite a few larger-than-usual pieces, I'd say 30 bucks for 278 pieces is pretty much in the ballpark for what you could expect, so not really that 'pricey' for a LEGO set. It could've done with one or two extra minidolls, though. Otherwise: fun!
This looks familiar. Did we see a review of this set already on this site, or did Nova find a new water-park to attempt to drown her disabled dog in?
That dog has wheels. Nova knows this, she's the one who grafted the wheels onto that poor dog. That dog isn't going to fare well in water.
Do sloths swim? Is that one courting danger? I mean, with a punk haircolor like that, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.

Sloths can swim faster than they move on land.

That’s buoyancy in normal Earth gravity. I meant sending astronauts with wheelchairs to the moon. While a paraplegic might be able to get around easier in reduced gravity than they could on Earth (or easier than I could in reduced gravity), a wheelchair kinda depends on a minimum amount of contact with the ground to function properly.
And a wheelchair underwater wouldn’t be so bad…if you’re Ariel.
Generally speaking, water parks are a tough subject to depict at lower to medium price points. When they're smaller like this, they tend to look pretty abstract... But it's at least nice to have one that's affordable for the kids that want one.

It's interesting that she should appear as a minifigure as well, in sloth-jammies no less. It's also noteworthy that she's officially in the Marvel universe. This means Nova isn't just a monster, she's a supervillain posing as a hero. All that power at her disposal, and all she uses it for is to torture innocent animals.
Nova is just the absolute worst.

That’s the one. I mean, I get why they did it, and why they thought it was a good idea, but I also felt my eyebrow rising when I saw that.
"Cats and water generally aren't a good mix." I'm reminded of the vet's office we took my brother's beagle too when we were kids. They had a cat there that really liked water. If you turned on the water fountain and just held the button so water would keep flowing, the cat would get up on the fountain to sit there for as long as the water was flowing.
