LEGO Skylines video game announced!

An interesting new LEGO video game has just been announced during Gamescom 2026's Opening Night Live presentation: LEGO Skylines!

The press release follows...

Build a City Where Everything Just Clicks in LEGO Skylines

New City Builder by Iceflake Studios and Paradox Interactive Revealed at gamescom

STOCKHOLM and COLOGNE – August 25, 2026 – Paradox Interactive, Iceflake Studios, and the LEGO Group today at gamescom Opening Night Live announced LEGO Skylines, an all-new cozy, customizable city-builder where everything just clicks. Developed by Iceflake Studios and published by Paradox Interactive, LEGO Skylines is coming to Steam, PlayStation5, XBOX Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

A playful take on city building, LEGO Skylines invites you to build, manage, and grow your dream city in a vibrant LEGO universe. Create whatever you can imagine or lose yourself in the details in an evolving world that unfolds as you play. Start with a single plot, build your first house, and watch your neighborhood grow into a living, breathing metropolis shaped by your decisions.

In LEGO Skylines, you’re encouraged to build a city that's both beautiful and functional. First, cover the basics like roads, electricity, food, and water to make your city run smoothly. Then, make it a place your citizens love. Add cozy homes for them to return to after work, green parks where they can unwind, quirky stores stocked with their favorite goods, and well-equipped hospitals to keep everyone in one piece. Turn your city into a cultural capital with great museums and impressive sports arenas, or plop bakeries on every street corner, serving delicious donuts baked with wheat from your own farms. As you expand, you’ll gradually unlock new buildings and services for your citizens to enjoy, increasing your city’s rating and their happiness along the way. With a large selection of customizable plots, buildings, and countless other LEGO decorations, it’s easy to create a city that's got your fingerprints all over it.

LEGO Skylines is about the satisfaction of building everything just where you want it, which is, of course, exactly where it belongs.

“Most of us at Iceflake grew up building LEGO sets, and we’ve carried that passion with us to this day. As huge fans, we were incredibly excited to get the opportunity to combine our creative drive with everything we’ve learned over the years building deep management and simulation games,” said Lasse Liljedahl, Co-Founder and Game Director at Iceflake Studios. “With LEGO Skylines, we want to turn city building into a more personal experience, where only your imagination limits what kind of cities you can build. We can't wait to see how players bring their dreams to life in it.”

“Building and creativity have always been at the heart of the LEGO experience, but LEGO Skylines takes us into completely new territory,” said Fredrik Löving, SVP, Global Head of GAME at the LEGO Group. “Together with Paradox Interactive and Iceflake Studios, we have brought the LEGO experience to one of the world's most beloved gaming genres. From the beginning, our ambition wasn't just to make a LEGO city-builder, it was to create a game that is considered among the best in the genre. Whether players dream of building a bustling metropolis, a quirky seaside town, or something nobody has imagined before, LEGO Skylines gives them the creative freedom and depth to make it happen.”

LEGO Skylines is available to wishlist now. For more information, please visit www.legoskylines.com or follow on YouTube.

In the third picture down, in front of the small plot of corn, the four-wide green station wagon with brown and tan on it looks like the Family Truckster from the 1980s National Lampoon 'Vacation' films.

LEGO Loco's 30th anniversary is November 2028!

Definitely want this!

The game looks amazing visually, but I hope they don't screw this game up like they did with City Skylines II with bad performance.

Oh great, another lego game that's announced with much fanfare then forgotten about by lego within weeks of release...

Some nice MOC ideas though, love the 1950s yellow car and the 1960s-1970s station waggon as Murdoch17 noted.

Interesting they went with strictly 4 wide cars, and then 6 wide buses.

I think I just aged into dust.

Sad. Paradox. They only release DRM-laden on Steam anymore instead of in a consumer friendly fashion anymore. I still haven't even been able to get Cities Skylines (the first) yet because they refuse to give it a proper "you can buy it instead of rent it" release. Otherwise I'd be all over this.

While Paradox published both games (and likely is partially responsible for Skylines II launching in a poor state), Colossal Order was the original developer of Skylines II. They were replaced by Iceflake Studios this year. So I guess there is some hope that Iceflake will do a better job with Lego Skylines than Colossal did with Skylines II. Plus, assuming Lego has some interest in quality control (unless it's the same people running Lego.com)

On the first picture with the big city; there is a 'proper' fire station. It'd be nice if Lego could do stuff like that once again instead of the diminutive fire station they do nowadays. It does not need to be that big, but you get the idea.

As is the case with the Lego city line-up, there is next to no production facilities in this society. Everyone is engaged in the tertiary sector (service industry) and get their stuff from a place far far away (nymby for the things we don't want to see).

The concept is fine but if there are no 'missions' this gets old very fast. Or they could do something like the Sims: you have to make sure crime rate is low, tax income is sufficient to pay for all services, enough dwelling space for the citizens, traffic is properly managed, etc, etc.

To me, the best aspect of this game is: this will provide builders with a lot of design ideas for their own city layout at home.

Now, if you build all sorts of Ninjago City types of building, will the rest of the city adapt to your style or will it just built a 'normal' city around it?

By in United States,

I have to say the roads and pavement look horrendous. They don't look like any road system LEGO has ever created and there's a sudden transition from stark, featureless pavement to the LEGO portion near the buildings. Corners, like 20 second into the video, look especially jarring. I guess I can understand the "real" grass being used to signify undeveloped land, but why are the road and pavement close to them not have a hint of a stud?

At least it's not another mobile game that slips through the cracks and then becomes unplayable after three years.

Sooo... LEGO SimCity then.....
So when can I pre-order? {:)]

I've built a 5 stud tram for public transport. Bus is also possible, but requires little more tricks (Did that too, but tram looks better). 6 stud is too wide for old road plates.

You're not wrong, but "maybe the next studio will get it right" doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence in me, though. I played a lot of SimCity when I was a kid, and I was hoping for Skylines to bring that gameplay-loop. Instead, all of the failures and exciting disappointment surrounding the franchise made me decide to just DOSbox SimCity 2000 instead.

Incidentally - I'm not a fan of "you don't own your copy of the thing you just bought", but that's not exactly... new. It's an increasingly predatory model, but it's something all of us have agreed to for decades, every time we blindly hammered "NEXT" on a licensing-agreement.

It only means we have bought right to temporarily use a thing. That's all we were ever entitled to. Even in an MMO, your character is never yours.

Fortunately, there's always piracy!

Proof that 4-wide cars work best for LEGO cities! :D

By in United Kingdom,

I’m very excited for this one, as long as it runs better than CS2!

I Would not be surprised if LEGO make "Skylines" the next CITY set folks!

What are you on about?

By in Jersey,

As a child I adored Lego Loco so definitely looking forward to this

Gravatar
By in Italy,

If the game lets you build everything you want from scratch (so brick by brick) the buildings, and let you even add trains this would be so cool
I might be able to finally build my dream lego train layout

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll have to wait to see the details of the game, but this might be fun. Also, I can't wait for people (myself included) to re-create some of the buildings into real bricks.

Sim City? The city building game from 2 decades ago….

Should be 6-wide and 8-wide.

I was always more of a SimTower girl. This looks very pretty, though. And I might steal some ideas from that skatepark.

Reproduced in LEGO, the sophisticated interlocking building-block system from nine decades ago.

Everything is awesooooome....

Honestly, I'd be more than satisfied with a simple Lego Loco remaster so it works on modern machines, but this will have to do.

Sorry to remember you how old you are, but it's almost 4 decades now :D

Yes, I used to play the original when it was current, then SimCity 2000 for an insane amount of time, then 3000 for another insane amount of time, then 4 for an even bigger amount of time, and I even enjoyed the weird Societies. Then I got a bit tired of the genre, I got Skylines but didn't play much.

Gravatar
By in France,

I hope you can build a city with proper mass transit and now these cities built around cars. I just want a city with no cars in the center.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That 'clicky' noise they use in games and the Lego films for pieces connecting...never heard it in real life. Just saying.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Interesting how quickly the new road plate system (60304) came and went. It's hardly in any new sets and is not featured in a game where it would have fit perfectly.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I reckon we'd see a reduction in city MOC's on Ideas as a result.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

An interesting idea - SimCity with LEGO - but unless it comes to GoG on PC on complete on disc on console, I'm not getting it.

No Disc, No Buy.

By in United States,

This reminds me, I need to get back to my SimCity 3000 run.
