LEGO Harry Potter HBO series sets coming soon!

Perhaps the one thing less appealing than giving JKR money for Harry Potter movie sets is giving JKR money for sets based on this ridiculous show. Pass!

Honest opinion. I am not going to watch this show and no way in hell am I going to buy any of these sets.

Well, this seems to have expanded the theme by at least five more years. Was sort of hoping it would come to a lovely close.

please people stop supporting harry potter. You cannot separate the art from the artist if the artist is still using the art to fund hate projects

It is unfortunate that if they do make a new series, they feel the need to have it be SO aesthetically similar to the old series that there's basically no point

I hope this new series crashes and burns and takes this dead horse of a theme with it. Just increasingly fed up with one of my favorite hobbies continuing to enrich someone who has dedicated her life to bigotry.

I’m no big fan of the author myself, but whatever you do, don’t hate the kids for this. Let’s leave them out of it!

Harry Potter is the one series where I’ve felt zero guilt making use of the Ali-etc market for (or secondhand via eBay). Literally every single dollar going into JKR’s pocket, by her own word and admission, is now going directly to trying to deny the existence of people who did nothing to her besides existing in the first place (and she can try to “deny” it all she wants, but when she made that post after the UK Supreme Court nonsense with a picture of herself *glibly smoking a cigar on her yacht* and gloating “I love when a plan falls into place” like some obnoxious Saturday-morning-cartoon-villain, that was the nail in the coffin of her *ever* pretending to be a decent person ever again for anyone with functioning eyes).

Bonus points as several of the adult actors signing onto the new series have been starting to show their colors via craptastic takes or straight up false/hateful claims on the subject - and that’s when they weren’t trying to be all “oh I don’t look at the news so I don’t know about that stuff” (we can be a bit thick, Warwick, but there ain’t nobody on earth that believes *you* didn’t know before you signed on to be Flitwick *again*).

Lots of good childhood memories of HP and those and that universe will remain with me, but not another dollar for JKR’s anti-trans crusade. Sucks that Lego got caught in the middle of it, but that’s how it goes sometimes. Nothing against the child actors involved - reserving my disgust for the myriad adults involved knowingly picking anti-trans hate and the almighty dollar over what’s *right and just*.

…is there any difference between the new Harry and the old? Like, I know the series is basically just regurgitating exactly the same thing as before, but thought the minifigs might at least get some kind of update

Glad I'm not the only person who has negative interest in the continuation of the franchise. The purpose of this reboot is to replace the dwindling original fanbase with fresh blood and fatten up JK's wallet even more (which she then recycles into discriminatory movements).

I hope the kids have eventful careers but I sincerely hope this flops.

I stopped buying Harry Potter sets only because I wanted to move on with other themes, but I'm glad kids all over the world are still enjoying the wizarding world. I'm not interested in the new HBO series in the least because it honestly doesn't seem like it's been long enough since the last movie came out 15 years ago. I honestly think Hollywood has very few original ideas any more; just keep rebooting 80's and 90's stuff...

High marks for telling us to forward to the 51:39 mark in the video!!! Because these style of videos are marketing diarrhea.

I really hate seeing the Harry Potter theme for a number of reasons, and while the most salient one is undoubtedly the fact that it financially supports bigotry and violence, on a much more insignificant level it also occupies space in the catalog that could be allocated to original medieval themes and sets that we haven't had outside of the occasional Creator 3-in-1 and Icons for quite some time now. There's nothing left to make or remake, and it doesn't even seem like the show is going to attempt to make any meaningful changes to the aesthetics of the movies so it's not as if adapting it makes any real difference to the existing lineup.

well, I'm not buying any of THAT, nope, not at all. I hope the show flops hard, tbh...

So it will be 8 episodes to cover "The Philosopher's Stone"
I admit some parts of the books were missing but feels like overkill.
And HBO trying to get something unique to make people subscribe

Afraid it will end like WoT and Rings of Power etc.

Meh i rather have LEGO to do new Hanna-Barbera sets featuring "Tom And Jerry", "The Jetsons", "Wacky Races", "Jonny Quest", "Droopy Bloodhound", "Space Ghost And Dino Boy", "Yogi Bear", and more.

Even disregarding the creator controversy, I still see a strong cynical buisness move by Warner Brothers to remake the series as a TV show. The films were very solid adaptations already.

What makes me cringe with Potter is it's outlived its cultural moment. I wince whenever I see the Jacobite train excursion advertised as "the Harry Potter" train. There's a lot of real world history with the North British Railway's route to Mallaig, the Jacobite name borrowing from Scottish independence movements and the lead to the battle of Culloden with Bonnie Prince Charles' rebellion. There's Sir Walter Scott's groundbreaking introduction of the concept of historical fiction with Waverley, and how that romantic view of the Jacobite rebellion in his book was mocked by Mark Twain for how he felt it influenced the American Confederacy, wrapping its Lost Cause mythology in the drappings of Scott's noble Jacobites.

Like that's a lot of cool real history and literature influences there with one train ride picking up a lot of us American tourists in Scotland. If Harry Potter introduces someone to that? I can't fault it there. But if someone comes back from Scotland gushing about "the Harry Potter train! The Harry Potter train!" I become a crank who is about ready to slap them with "read another book!"

LEGO has made great sets for the theme. That's held more cultural staying power than the IP itself IMHO.

Every positive emotion I have ever felt for the Harry Potter franchise and its Lego theme becomes more distant by the day. That it will continue seemingly forever, filling the pockets of a monster with infinite wealth to do her evil fills me with dread. Just horrible news.

Regardless of how many of the general public might watch the show or buy the sets, it's pretty clear from the comments on the past couple of Harry Potter posts that Brickset members would appreciate if the theme's prominence on this site was reduced going forwards.

Many of us are not interested in supporting this particular IP.

I was hoping they’d discontinue the theme to make room for something else, like affordable LOTR playsets.

It’s a Lego fan site with a direct financial connection to the Lego Company, posting press releases and news about big announcements by the company, and this one is about the company announcing roughly a projected decade or so of planned products based on a TV series that has been all over the news due to it’s primary originator loudly publicly announcing that she would be putting her *entire fortune made from said series* towards eliminating trans rights - and has already succeeded in part via directing significant funding into lobbying and legal moves that ultimately *cost trans people in the UK their access to public restrooms*.

Lego’s a company of adults and so is Brickset. Arguably, so are a lot of the rest of us on this site (given the whole AFOL thing). We can have adult discussions about how the money made from selling these sets will go - per JKR’s own words - directly to pushing forward more action against trans rights.

Is it unfortunate that this is happening? Sure. But she made a *choice* to go full-ham-and-cheese on the subject, and that plays out in the marketplace and news commentary related to the source of her fortune.

That it hasn’t affected you directly enough to prompt a change of opinion is lucky for you; for myself, I have family members who actively now have *less human rights* because of JKR spending HP money (including HP LEGO money) towards taking them away.
