Random set of the day: Anakin's Podracer

Today's random set is 30057 Anakin's Podracer, released during 2012. It's one of 38 Star Wars sets produced that year. It contains 38 pieces, and its retail price was US$4.99 / £4.99, which equates to about US$7 / £7 in today's money.
It's owned by 2,581 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at Brick Owl, BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $9.90, or eBay.

I miss when other characters got their pods represented in LEGO. Don't get me wrong, this a neat way of recreating Anakin's Podracer, but it's only ever Anakin and Sebulba. Yes, there was that recent exclusive of Gasgano's (I never got the Podracing Diorama 75380 , so never bothered to try to get the additional pod), and that felt like a decent callback to 7171 Mos Espa Podrace, but the other racers are severely underrepresented. I know they wouldn't sell as many sets full size, but even just in a miniature scale that was only a handful of the lineup would be cool.

They did really well at this scale. The triple airbrakes are an improvement over 4485 Anakin' and Sebulba's Podracer, as are the cheese slopes. Those were now possible due to newer parts, but the trans pink 4L bar is also an improvement. The old trans neon orange ones were at least consistent though with the podracer sets of the years before 2003.
Fairly sure that not actually being connected to its engines is going to be a problem for the cockpit
The background is so blurry that it looks like a planet’s edge and the void of space behind the podracer. Or this could be a particularly desaturated set. I don’t know. I do know that that pink lightsaber hilt right there is the stuff dreams are made of.

Technically that is one of the more obscure ones that has been officially made in 7159 , but I'd love to see more minifigure or midi scaled Podracers to give them proper detailing.

Another one I'd like to see, just to see how they managed to get all four engines to stay attached to the cockpit. If they could also find a way to put some kind of mechanism to make the engines fly off (like the one 75178 had), so much the better.

I wonder how play scale models of some of the unmade pods would do, especially if the price could be kept down. It'd be interesting to see designs from the first six movies that Lego's still never covered after all this time. I can't think of many other viable possibilities - the SPHA-T, GR-75, maybe Liberty- and wingless Liberty-type Mon Calamari cruisers.
Not bad, for just 39 pieces.
I need Teemto's podracer as a LEGO set. That circular cockpit was always my favorite as a kid.
