Issue one of Star Wars comic out now
Posted by Huw,
Issue 1 of Egmont Publishing's LEGO Star Wars comic is out in newsagents and supermarkets today in the UK. Like other similar titles concerning Chima, Ninjago and Friends, it consists primarily of cartoons and puzzles of limited interest to adult buyers but its saving grace is the cover mounted 'free' gift which on this issue is a mini X-Wing.
Next month's free gift is a mini Slave 1, which like the X-Wing, looks familiar and has probably been included in a Star Wars advent calendar at some point.
It costs £3.75 and I purchased mine in Tesco. Is it worth it? Probably not to be honest, unless you're a die-hard LEGO Star Wars collector.

X-WING from 2011 and SLAVE 1 from 2013 advents?
Came to €6.15 in Easons (Ireland) - which was a bit much (Chima comes to €5 - different publisher), will only buy if it's a non advent calendar bits (side note: this years seems to be €37 on Argos site which is big jump too) There also appeared to be a new Ninjago magazine with free Jay minifig on the shelves.
If anyone is willing to hook up a collector across the pond, I'd love to get my hands on this. You can contact me through my profile.
Its not a bad magazine, very much targeted to a younger audience, like the Ninjago and Friends magazines.
X-Wing is small - 23 pieces. It looks like an X-Wing, so there is that.
What entertained me was the spot-the-difference puzzle using a model of the Millennium Falcon. The UCS model. No need to rub it in that most people will never get one!
Does anyone know if these sets will have numbers assigned to them, or are they not deemed worthy of an official designation from Lego?
Yes. Small freebie sets like this tend not to have official numbers, through Brickset does often track them. The X-Wing is almost identical to the Toys R Us freebie from last year (I think one brick is a different color). http://brickset.com/sets/TRUXWING-1/X-Wing
There's no number on the back, so I had to make one up
That does seem strange as they give numbers to piddly little parts sets with 2-3 bricks some times. An actual model with a designed cover should get a number. Does it come with instructions inside the poly or are they just printed in the magazine?
I assume it doesn't have a number as it's an ex-advent calendar build, so would fall under that as a set number?
It looks as if this magazine is a complete waste of time and money for any adults (such as me) who already own the four advent calendars. The only thing that remotely interests me is the comic strip, but I'm not sure I fancy paying £3.75 for a few pages of comic strip. (How many pages of comic strip are in the mag, Huw?)
@Sabreman64 2 comic strips Rebels and SW IV both 8 pages
There will be definetely no minifigs in further issues, said spokesman of blue ocean, the German Publisher....so if anyone is thinking about an abonnement...
Only advent calendar stuff in different colours will be the fancy thing...I am not quite sure if I like to pay that much...
Just to note issue 2 of the Dutch version of the magazine will have a free blaster, whereas English version will have Slave I https://instagram.com/p/5wWnciRWcE/ so maybe they differ in each country.
No mini figures in near future publishers have said below is response to email I sent
Hi Brendon,
Really glad you liked the magazine, thanks for getting in touch! I’m afraid we haven’t got any plans to do mini figures at the moment, but you never know what the future might bring! We do have some really, really cool gifts coming up though…
Thanks
