Help James Camplin raise money for a hospice

Posted by ,

Well-known and respected Brickset member James Camplin (legoboy) is raising money for the hospice that cared for his mother by undertaking a 100km walk and by holding a raffle in the forum with many cool LEGO prizes.

Despite being set back by a serious leg injury that looked like it would prevent him from participating in the walk, he's struggling on and training hard and is determined to complete the distance in September.

You can read more of James' story and find out what the prizes are below or in the forum and you can donate at JustGiving.

I wish James the best of luck and encourage you to donate or buy raffle tickets.

It's been two years since my mother was diagnosed with cancer and eighteen months since she passed away. I thought at the time I needed to support the hospice and staff that cared for her during her final hours and quickly decided upon a challenge she and I had previously joked about. A continuous 100km walk, through day and night.....and the next day if needed. The Thames Path Challenge. Unfortunately due to various complications I didn't register until last September only to find the event was in fact being held the very same day. So, I registered for this year's.

I started my training in March but after just three weeks I fell and snapped my fibula. I stopped using crutches two months ago and quickly learnt the meaning of 'muscle wastage'! Now, having received half a thumbs up from the doctor last week I am now fighting hard against the clock both in rehab and training to raise what I can before the big day in seven weeks' time.

Not only have I set up my donations page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/James-Camplin of which any pledges would be gratefully received, I also began a raffle offering the chance to win a complete set of German DFB Minifigures shipped worldwide by me to the lucky winner.

Over the days to follow, I was inundated with offers of several other prizes donated by fellow Bricksetters to add to the raffle prize fund which include not only a #75098 Assault on Hoth generously donated @Huw, but also a custom one-of-a-kind EXO WALKbuster Suit designed and built by the Mighty Elspeth DeMontes. There is a story behind her creation which you will need to read about in the forum.

With a constantly increasing number of prizes available to win, please please consider supporting my cause.

Thank you,

James

I just found out about this in the forum yesterday, and I love that Brickset is the kind of place where people will rally round like this.

Great to see this appear on the main page as well. Brickset is indeed a wonderful community and well done James for getting the ball rolling. There really are great prizes to win and all for a good cause so go on and sign up if you haven't already.

@dr.doom don't worry, by the time you'll be 16 there will be other opportunities I'm sure. But the sentiment suits you.

I support @Legoboy walk 100km. You can too. Buy raffle tickets. Take part in the awesome Brickset community saying up yours to cancer.

If like Dr.Doom you are too young, a single repost of "I support @Legoboy walk 100km...." here in these comments will help James complete his challenge.

Support is just as important, it's at the heart of the excellent work done by the hospice and that's the point, to raise as much money for them as possible.
