Panama Canal educational set now available worldwide
Posted by Huw,
Back in November we wrote about The Panama Canal educational set, 2000451, of which only 40,000 were produced.
It can now be purchased on the Panama STEM website, and shipped anywhere in the world, although it's not cheap by any means.
The 1184-piece set will set you back US$249.95, plus shipping, which to the UK is US$40, although I believe it may be free to the USA.
If you're a collector of the hard-to-find you'll probably want to snap this up, and of course buying it from the official source will be much cheaper than on the secondary market.

Dont forget to add import taxes + customs declaration.
Thanks, Huw, for the info.
But the set itself and especially the price is a laugh. Like Henry_D said, just going to Wikipedia gets you more knowledge about the Panama Canal than this set. And the price is ridiculous. It's not even a notably impressive set. And even if one wanted to build it, getting the necessary pieces via BL would set you back far less. No special pieces whatsoever, as far as I can see.
Edit: just looked it up, I could build the whole set from parts in my inventory right now, save for about ten pieces worth about 2 Euro altogether on BL. Not that I would even want to, but still.
Cool set, not the best value. For a while, they had a $50 off coupon. So, $199 with free shipping, no sales tax and no duties / fees to the U.S. So not terrible at $199 all in!
So expensive! Nothing I would ever buy at that price.
As noted by AustinPowers above, most of the parts are basic--I had about 2/3 of the parts on hand, and have BL'd the rest. My kids are excited to put it together. One big problem--where can I find the instructions?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
Good to see they made an educational set so accessible to the masses, and at an affordable price as well.
Said no one ever.
I think the 20% deal is still in effect, as I saw Panama STEM still advertising the offer a few days ago on Facebook. I got it when the deal first came out. It's just a cool set to have as a conversation piece.
Where can I find the instructions?
This set is a luxury, yes. You could also wikipedia Taj Mahal, Sydney Opera House, London Bus, Tower Bridge, Eiffel Tower, etc etc etc. Oh, is that because it has the "Education" label? You could also wikipedia space, airports, community minifigures, fantasy minifigures, trains, etc etc. If you don't like LEGO or don't like this particular set, don't buy it. Comparing to info you can access on wikipedia is a joke.
And to clarify, shipping is free to USA. $199.96 all-in, with the recently expired discount code. I assume they'll extend the discount, which they have done multiple times. I wouldn't be surprised to see a more steep discount in the future, but that is just my hunch (full disclosure: I bought a couple weeks ago). Follow or check Panama Stem's facebook page for future discounts.
It's been available worldwide since December. They often have a $50 off coupon on their Facebook page to apply towards this. That's how I got mine. Shipping is free to the States.
So many problems with this. The only reason why I want it is because it will be worth a fortune later(or so I think).
This set was already worldwide available like M444M44 said. Please double check your sources before publishing it as 'news'. :-)
Ha! And here we all thought it was a new UCS Falcon
Jeez that's expensive. Lego seems to think that anything with eduction in the name gives them an excuse to jack the price up.

I'd much rather save for "a piece of junk"! ;)
@speedorz4ever Yeah, I saw something like that too on Facebook promoting it. Like down to $199 and free shipping worldwide I think? I think a few months back when I saw it.
But if we all can get the instructions, should be cheaper to piece together. I'd like to build it and all those cool little cargo ships.
The brickset review posted above has further details and links to the instructions.
@Caterham7. Many thx! I missed the link.
I have just checked the price for shipment to Denmark and it cost more than $170. It's a lot, so I must jump over this one!
Thanks for letting us know you can order. I was unaware until now and just placed an order. Looking forward to it arriving in 3 weeks time
For those interested, in France you have to pay €85 taxes, besides shipping costs...
