Christmas Build-Up: Day 5

Posted by ,

As we make our way through the countdown, I certainly hope that the good holiday vibes can continue after yesterday’s charming snowmobile! What could it be...

We are met with this fantastic windmill. While I am unaware of any significant connections to Christmas that a windmill would represent (this is too big to be a toy), it is still very cool. The cool color scheme of brown and tan is pretty great, with a gold tip - and green tree, represented by a 1x1 cone - to provide some contrast.

Of particular note here is the reddish-brown ‘plus sign’ plate used for the sails. A nice inclusion!

Overall - 4.0 - not bad, LEGO, not bad at all. The scale is just a little wonky to me, plus the lack of an obvious connection to the holiday season. Otherwise, thumbs-up!

By in United Kingdom,

I’m afraid I didn’t like it. Here you have a box full of interesting and fun pieces and they came out with this. Will keep plugging away, really liked the Reindeer.

I don't like it either. The relation with Christmas isn't obvious but, more importantly, it's not a great model: the vanes are way too short (I'd try to add the white plates with angle), the tip makes no sense and what's the translucent yellow part supposed to represent? A bush in bloom?

I also think that the note for this ítems should be lower. Not 4.0. It is not related to Christmas or snow atmosphere and the scale is not correct. As mentioned, the van are short, perhaps some more pieces to make them longer... Bad day!!

It took until the last piece before I realised what this was supposed to be. I thought it was pretty rubbish tbh, with no connection to winter at all.

By in Germany,

It is a misconceptipn that the items in this set necessarily have a connection to the festive season or Winter in general. They're just fun (or sometimes not as fun) little builds to help the kids pass the time until Christmas. Please refer to the City and Friends Advent Calendars for more wintery builds.

A really neat looking little build, but can't find a direct connection between christmas and a windmill either.

@Brick Dangerous The name of the set is 'Christmas build-up'...

By in United States,

I'm starting to think the designers just phoned it in with this set, just threw together 24 random mini-builds and called it good. Then again, i have been wrong before, so we'll see...

I eventually came to realize it was a windmill, but when I first saw the image my eye kept focusing on the X and I thought it was a train crossing sign. There was potential here but the effort is not the best.

By in Germany,

@ paperballpark: That is exactly what I wrote. You build them until it's Christmas. It says nothing about the thematic content.
