Shanghai signing event report

As luck would have it Brickset regular Branko was on a business trip in China at the weekend so was able to visit the Shanghai LEGO store for the Architecture skyline signing event.

He brings us this report:

It was great to be at the event and feel the buzz and excitement of Jamie Berard's presence through the crowd. The huge bodyguards surrounding Jamie certainly added to his star status!

People patiently waited in line for their turn to get their set signed, people started to even talk to me (the stranger). The signing event wat scheduled from 10:30-12:00 but it was close to 1pm before Jamie was let of the leash to go get lunch.

Throughout the store they had put stickers on several sets labeling them as 'Jamie's collection'. Unfortunately I couldn't quite afford one of the big ones to score one of those cool stickers but I did have my skyline signed by the rock star designer himself :)

It felt great taking away the LEGO Shanghai skyline from my visit to Shanghai, and to be able to build it in my hotel while seeing some of the buildings I'm putting together. When the smog finally cleared today I was able to get this picture:

Thanks Branko!

This must be the first LEGO signing event where a designer has needed bodyguards!

I love the look on the little girls face in the second photo - ‘yeah, it’s great and all that, but where do the minifigures go?’

Thanks for the report, Branko. Love the last picture comparing the set to the real world.

By in Australia,

Spies the guy carrying two big bags, with what appear to be modulars. See? People in China do love the originals too!
