I won't enter the debate about the image. But I saw it earlier, and thought "what good timing". I had spent about 10 minutes this morning trying to locate a photo online of the LIT set for this year.

I would like to see it myself; I won't have a chance to go on the tour. That said, I totally understand that it would be nice for it to be a surprise for those who can go. I can live without seeing it for now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you're such a big fan that you'd go to the Lego Factory, wouldn't you think that they'd know about this? Just saying....

@Huw, perhaps you could post a *spoiler* warning in the story headline and have the set image only come up if you click on the link? This way you would only see it if you wanted to.

Thanks to Google images, I've had a look and it's quite a cute little set. In terms of displaying the image or not, I think the needs of the million or so of us unlucky enough to not be able to go on the inside tour outweigh the need of the 50 who are lucky enough to attend to maintain a "nice surprise" at the end. They should be thankful that they are in the position to attend an inside tour and receive something at the end instead of getting precious about everyone else being able to see it before they get it into their possession anyway.

Sensitive lego peeps

You can count me amongst the millions, nay, billions of people "unlucky" enough to not be invited on an inside tour this year, however, I can assure you, I do not *need* to see this picture before the final tour is given, nor does anyone else. There are a lot of people, myself included, who would like (i.e. want) to see this picture, but again, I can assure you, there is no need here (unless the point is to post "first!" as the kids like to do) We can wait. Well, I can, at least...others may need to learn patience.

I second not showing the picture, after reading keith's explaination. I can respect that. However, this is Huw's site and it's really entirely up to him whether he wants to show it or not, and for keith to demand (it sounded like a demand to me, not so much as a polite request ) the removal irks me slightly. Anyway, don't have to be so hung up on it, after all one can just easily find the images on the net. Unless this entire post gets deleted might as well, I don't really see the point.

INSIDE TOUR... what's that and who's the lucky attendees?

This post is USELESS without the pictures and of course with the complaining, last time I checked it's just a toy...

You may be from the UK, but you still misspelled "lego", "dont", and "typo's" (as plural for "typo" - which is actually quite awesomely ironic).

Also this entire argument is moot in the age of Google and image caching.

Personally, I wouldn't mind the surprise being "spoilt" for me. When I'll go to the tour, I'll do it for the tour itself, not the surprise at the end.

^ Again, you're missing the point - you don't "need" to see it. I agree with keithkram. I think Huw should wait for 3 weeks for the last tour to take place and then post the image. Will it really impact you in any way to have to wait? No. Could it have a negative effect for those 50 people yet to go on the trip. Of course. Don't ruin something that they are rightly going to be über-excited about.

I agree with all of Keithkram's statements; and would also be disappointed if the 'surprise' was blown before hand. I'm sure all the rants will now cause enough noise that it will flood other groups and further disturb those who have not yet gone on the tour.

If you sign an NDA - it means 'Non Disclosure Agreement'. It does not mean 'Now Distribute Accordingly [images]'.

@LostInTranslation - do you make that same argument when other watermarked imaged of sets are leaked? I don't recall seeing people argue that leaks of other watermarked sets are improper or a breach of agreement, or that we should just wait until the approved images come out. Heck, I'm sure there are people who believe that NO watermarked image should ever be shown because it ruins the "surprise" of the set's official announcement, or finding it in the wild.

A scoop is a scoop, and this is a news site--leaks are between the leaker and Lego.

The "wants" of the many vs. the few should be balanced. If the handful of people going on the tour don't want their expensive surprise ruined, that's cool and I understand...just put a spoiler warning on the link and don't post the image on the home page. Now you don't have to see or click on it. But to argue that NO ONE should have the ability to see an *available* image because YOU don't want to is kind of ridiculous. It's like saying that someone shouldn't post an un-official early review of a movie because you just can't avoid it and don't want it to ruin the movie.

@keithkram - Given your demand to remove the image, do you not see the irony in claiming that "All you care about is what you want and not what others want"? I think many of us could say the same for you. Hopefully we'd do it more politely, though.

@modok - I actually don't ever look at watermarked or unofficial YouTube videos, for example. Anyway this site does not condone the posting of watermarked images, does it? I guess a spoiler warning could have worked in this case though...

@huw - I think that this site and its administrators have great integrity and the site has benefited from maintaining a good relationship with TLG by respecting their wishes in not posting confidential images. I would class this as a confidential image, and though it was not you who broke the NDA, I, personally, don't think it would be right to distribute it and potentially jeopardise that relationship. (And yes, upset that handful of people going on the tour). IMO this set is a little different to sets that will be generally released, due to the exclusivity.
I'm sure many will disagree with me but hey ho. That's my two penn'orth.

I also support pulling the image for a couple of weeks. It won't negatively affect any of us, it's only temporary and I like the idea of helping keep it a "surprise" for visitors as much as anyone still can in the Internet age. All that being said, @keithkram, I would have preferred if this had been presented more as a friendly request and less as a moralistic demand. Additionally, calling people "fake fans of LEGO" is just icing on the "poor form" cake.

I actually think withholding the image could have a negative effect. We are a LEGO news and collecting site. If competing sites take the story and image and run with it while we sit on the sidelines, we jeopardize our position and risk losing readership.

Whilst reading the earlier posts, I was already drafting what I'd say the matter. Everything I was about to write has been summed up well by @Huw.

Had he not already confirmed to remove the content, rendering the article useless, I would have suggested perhaps 'Spoiler' be written across where the picture ought to be so that it could only be seen or read by deliberately clicking on it to open.

If the lucky people left to attend the tour don't want to see it, don't look. As 'confidential' as it may be, TLG as far as I'm aware, haven't asked for it to be removed - says alot I think.

Brickset likes to bring 'new' news to its members. If we're going to start removing and filtering news articles or pictures just to avoid the off-chance of upsetting a few dozen punters then we might as well shut up shop now. Given the set is pretty pants compared with last year's, I'd suggest anybody would be more upset for that reason rather than the 'surprise being spoilt'.

@Huw ...You should do exactly whatever your internal ethical/moral compass tells you to do. This rule applies in all situations.

I should also note that 12000 DKK is a boatload of cash (or at least is for me; I live and work in Poland).

This whole conversation is actually quite ridiculous. Some guy calling fans who want to see the picture fake...
Others claiming this need to see a picture, like they're drop dead from not seeing it.
More and more people getting up in arms because the picture isn't here. Go to Google and search, "Lego Inside Tour 2012", then click on images. It'll most likely the first photo, was for me.
I hardly see how knowing what set you are getting will ruin the Tour. Sure, surprises are nice and all, but that is just stupid.

Being from the States, the Tour will more than likely ellude me, but if I were going on the tour and I discovered what the set was, it wouldn't change a thing. If anything, I may enjoy the tour more. Not miss anything because I was thinking and daydreaming about what the set is. Maybe that's just me...

Either way, Huw, you should do whatever you want. The perks of being the boss. If you want to throw up the picture again, spoiler tag it, put a picture of a unicorn there instead, so be it.

I respectfully disagree with this idea. It has been the fall back position of many a news service over the years and has served as a defacto rationalization for printing anything/everything. While theres certainly no scandalous story or pseudo news here, I still find it to be a weak argument and too pragmatic for my tastes. It's like the "confidential" images stance. I'd like to think we don't lose readership because we refuse to post, provide or link to them. Additionally, I like to think we don't allow them moreso because we think it's wrong and less so because we fear blowback from TLG.

This is Brickset yes? The world's best resource for Lego news and yet an image that is out there on the web and is not watermarked is not here for Lego fans to see..... Sure all of us would love to go on an inside tour but that is in a perfect world, I doubt that the majority of people who go on these tours do so for the "set" at the end more so the actual tour, the set would just be a bonus. Like you said Huw, no problems last year so it shouldn't be a problem this year. Lego haven't asked you to remove the image (I believe reading through the comments) so they obviously have no issue with it and neither should you(Huw).
Well at least the tour is getting plenty of attention on the news page :)
