Anticipation has been building for the eighth season of NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu, titled Sons of Garmadon, which will be broadcast later this year. Three new videos relating to the latest series have been released today.

These include a trailer for the upcoming season and a stop-motion animation featuring some of the new sets which were released a few days ago. Brickset was invited to attend part of the filming for the stop-motion video and iso3200 published two articles documenting his experience in December.

You can watch all three videos and find links to iso3200's articles below...

This stop-motion animation features several of the new sets and exhibits the importance of the Oni Masks which are being collected by the Sons of Garmadon.

The final video documents how the stop-motion animation was created.

You can read both parts of iso3200's report from the event here:

Thanks to Aanchir for drawing this news to our attention.

By in Canada,

Why in the world are they making the ninjas completely stupid looking, with the same looks from the ninjago movie?

@Skela: After putting in such an effort to think through how the ninja would look if they were designed today, it'd be sort of a shame to return to the older, less detailed designs. Not that the ninja designs before weren't good, but they weren't necessarily keyed into who the characters would become over the course of the series. Zane's expressions weren't originally designed with the idea in mind that he'd be a robot, for instance. Jay's hairstyle and facial features didn't especially reflect the lovable goofball personality he would end up having, and all of the ninja had black eyebrows even though only two of them had black hair.

Aspects of the classic minifigures like Kai's scar and Nya's eye shadow were even omitted from their designs the pilot episode — that's how quickly the ninja as characters outgrew the way the graphic designers for the first wave originally envisioned them. The movie was a good opportunity for the designers to look into what worked with the old designs and what could stand to be improved.

I also think that the new costumes are a step up from the movie costumes. They're more clearly color-coded, brighter-colored in general, and have more unifying motifs like the new textured fabrics or the shared black shoulderpads. Kai and Nya also keep some of their wonderful sibling-based design cues that we started to see with the Hands of Time wave.

Aanchir, You have many good points and I do agree. I love the new suits, its just the simple things like nya's hair, jays hair color, and escpecially coles scar, which was a big part of his history.

but the villains look great, especially Mr. E

Look! With the success of The LEGO NinjaGo Movie, they've had go to the next level by combining the TV world of NinjaGo with the movie world of NinjaGo, period!

By in Poland,

Aanchir you have some solid point there - but for example changing cool ninja symbols for simpler, worst looking ones - was a bad move. Also leaving Zane design as a "LOOK IT'S A ROBOT" is quite stupid - he was a comic relief in movie, but in series he is one of the most clever ones.
About the old faces - They always could just change faces in sets to match the TV show- but that would make them gain less money :D

Besides this series looks great! ANd I am glad they actualy explained why they look different. I wonder how other older characters will look!

By in Indonesia,

The making of a brickfilm... could you say that this would be a new beginning of a new Lego Ninjago movie?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

the series does look amazing! As a lego villain person the concept of the gang was quite smart. And yes I am glad that we know why they changed.

By in United States,

Really glad their sticking to the new looks. They look really really good. Also did they recast the voice actor for Lloyd?

Gravatar
By in United States,

BrickHelix yes they did. Lloyds voice actor was Jillian Michaels and now its Samuel Vincent

@lordofdragonss: I do admit I miss the ninja’s animal emblems and I kind of hope we haven’t seen the last of them (they did continue to be used on some movie products like the dojo pod). That said, I think the new symbols in the Ninjago language are a BIG step up from the ninja’s previous letter icons, which were arbitrary letters from the font Fusaka. The new icons are not only Ninjago-specific, but they actually stand for something.

By in United States,

Time to rewatch the Pilot and Seasons 1-7 of ninjago to prepare for 8 and 9.
:)

By in United States,

@Skela That's what I thought, thanks.

By in United States,

Skela they had to change the ninjas looks because season 8 takes place a year after season 7 so they look different.

Boxman, I know why they changed. I was just hoping they would give the ninja a whole new look rather than use the Ninjago Movie ones.
