Ship in a Bottle

©2018 LEGO Group

Here's the press release for the next LEGO Ideas set:

21313 Ship in a Bottle, 962 pieces
US $69.99 - CA $89.99 - DE 69.99€ - UK £69.99 - DK 599.00 DKK
Available from 1st Feb. No VIP early access.

Create a timeless classic with LEGO bricks!

Show you are a true craftsman when you create a Ship in a Bottle with LEGO bricks! Build this beautiful ship named ‘Leviathan’, including the captain’s quarters, masts, crow’s nest, sails, flag and 6 cannons. Place it inside the brick-built bottle, featuring a buildable cork and wax seal. Then showcase your nostalgic, nautical creation on the display stand, complete with the ship’s nameplate and a compass with a spinning needle.

  • Features a LEGO brick-built bottle, ship and a display stand.
  • Bottle features a detailed, buildable cork with NEW wax-seal-style element and over 280 translucent-blue, water-style elements inside.
  • Ship features a raised deck at the stern, captain’s quarters, 6 cannons, 3 masts, a crow’s nest and assorted elements including printed sails and the ship’s flag.
  • Display stand features the ship’s ‘Leviathan’ nameplate, a built-in ‘compass’ (non-functioning) with detailed compass rose and spinning gold-colored needle, 2 globe elements and gold-colored detailing.
  • Includes a booklet with building instructions, plus information about the set’s fan creator and LEGO designers.
  • Bottle on stand measures over 3" (10cm) high, 12” (31cm) wide and 3” (10cm) deep.
  • Ship measures over 3" (8cm) high, 5” (14cm) long and 1” (5cm) wide.

The discrepancy between the US and European prices is disappointing, particularly given it's not a licensed set. £69.99 is US$95 at the moment.

The "280 translucent-blue, water-style elements" sound exciting, don't they!

You can view more images on the set details page.

By in Netherlands,

I am afraid that the bottle isn't sturdy in any way.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fantastic.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Whoa! £69.99 is surely an error. That price simply cannot let me justify a purchase for this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ouch! I was expecting more like £50 :(

EDIT: which is exactly what the US price works out at. Sigh.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That compass piece under the bottle is great!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lovely set, but at £69.99, it's a definite no from me. Shame.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, I was expecting a smallish £30 set.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I like it, looks very very lovely.

I just wished they'd have made one new element, a longer straight window, you didn't have the extra line where there's 2 straight ones for one curved one. I know about no new pieces for ideas sets but still.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

The main reason of the existence of the ship-in-a-bottle that this is a kind of art or proof of countless of hours of effort and patience.
Who will start the building with the bottle and build this set through the neck?:D

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's lovely - I like it! Seems a bit small and pricey though. The 280 "water elements" are just 1x1 round tiles... the piece count looks high, but almost 1/3 of that is those tiny pieces floating inside the bottle.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The stand and the bottle are quite nice but the ship is a bit 'meh'.

And are the clear blue studs just loose in the bottom of the bottle?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow 962 pieces for 70 bucks. I'm sold

Gravatar
By in Venezuela,

so expensive

Gravatar
By in United States,

This would be a nice parts pack if it ever goes on discount.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So, was anyone else hoping it would be a teeny Black Seas Barracuda in the bottle?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, they really, really nerfed it. The original ship was fantastic, though I'm sure the bottle itself was rickety and admittedly the final product is more streamlines. At least this doesn't have a huge footprint so my wife won't give me too much grief when I eventually get one. Still, I absolutely love the concept of it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Can someone please buy TLG a new calculator for working out UK prices? I think theirs is broken.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks great to me, though the piece count is a little inflated I'm sure as there are quite a few round blue pieces in the bottom. I still might have to get it though, would look great as a display piece.

Gravatar
By in France,

i really don't like it. i voted for the original but this is nothing like as pretty

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I was really looking forward to this, when I saw the piece count and the price I thought not bad until I saw the 280 "water" pieces.
Will still get it but will wait to see if it goes on sale somewhere.

Gravatar
By in Hong Kong,

lego use others idea to make money again.
last time it stole GHOSTBUSTERS Headquarters from lego idea to make 75827 Firehouse Headquarters.
stop posting your idea to lego.
it is doing the same thing as china does, stealing ideas.
lego is big thief and it claims china small thief.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

I was going to get it, but while the stand and bottle are improvments over the original the redesign of the ship kills it for me.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I like the bottle and the stand, but the original ship was way better. If they had made the bottle stay on the stand with a pointy side down, they'd have more space to build the ship larger, and the sails with the rope and everything.

I'm disappointed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And on the shelf this will stay lol until it's in the reduced bin. Their having a giraffe at that price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The pre-release is at my local store! I love how unique this set is... I just might have to go...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like the bottle holder has a better design than the ship.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Does it come with lint free cotton gloves to build that bottle without getting fingerprints all over it?! :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lovely bit price, I will jump on it by December.

Gravatar
By in United States,

WOW!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Much improved from the original design. The bottle has a better shape and proportion. The ship as a result got smaller but is still pretty. I like it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, this looks fantastic! I really like the studies used for water and as a whole, the ship and bottle look great! I’m also a huge fan of the stand for the bottle. Overall this model is great, and I might buy it on a discount.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@jerjer Ghostbusters Headquarters was an Ideas set, it won in either 2014 or 2015

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Now I'm glad I'm going to Florida later in the year...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@NickF22 ditto :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It's a fantastic model, but £70 is far too much money. UK prices have been utterly ridiculous lately.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@BrickHelix Ghostbusters Headquarters was not an Ideas set.

@jerjer LEGO did not steal the Ghostbusters Headquarters. They had one in development before the fan one got approved for Ideas.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool, I would probably pick this up, but I spent all of my money.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$70? I'll have to see it in person but right now its a no.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, that price has shocked me. Agree with all the comments above re: UK/US price, so bizarre. It would have probably been a day 1 purchase otherwise.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seventy quid?
Behave.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think jerjer works for Lepin lol. The model looks really nice, but I'm on the fence about it. The price/parts ratio (only here in the US) is good, although seems like 1/3 of those pieces are 1x1 blue transparent rounds. I am perplexed by something in the description though: "Bottle on stand measures over 3" (10cm) high..." and then "Ship measures over 3" (8cm) high." So they're saying the entire model w/the stand is only 2cm taller than the ship? Seems a bit larger than that to me :)

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

damn, i am getting for the 60th anniversary promotion, nice!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

How much? Ouch! I guess those large curved transparent parts are pushing the cost up. Looks really odd with those 1 x 4 x 3 panels next to the larger curved parts as well. The rest of the bottle and the stand look fantastic though.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Glad this will eventually surface at Kaufhof which means it will become available at a substantial discount someday. As nice as it is, the RRP seems too high. Plus, like others have said, while the base and the bottle are much improved versus the original submission, the ship design has suffered in the process imho.
I wonder whether the upcoming mini-Black Seas Barracuda from the free anniversary giveaway set will fit inside the bottle.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The bottle and the stand look better, but they neutered the ship to do it. I may still get it to support the concept, but this strays too far from the source for me.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

not what I was expecting in both design and price....900+ pieces sounds like a lot but all those blue studs take about 200 of those pieces $100 after taxes in Canada for this set? Sorry but my desire for this set much like a ship has sailed.

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

The price is insane. I would have bought it as a display piece for around 40 EUR, but not an (Euro) penny more.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lovely set but really disappointed that Lego are openly ripping off it's UK customers. I know they said they would increase cost in the UK due to Brexit but seriously, this is just profit and not due to Brexit at all.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really really love it!!! It is at times like these where I am glad I live in the US...

Gravatar
By in Finland,

Finland seems to be suffering as much as UK on this one. I really like it, but I have hard time trying to justify paying 80€ for it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$49.99 would be a yes, but it is a no at current price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, $70? It's a gorgeous set, but come on, 300 of those 962 pieces are 1x1 round plates--that's pretty rich for an unlicensed set.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Noo, I was voting for this idea and wanted it to look great as a finished model, but it does not look great for me, and not worthy the price which in Poland is an equivalent of 79 €. At least 20 € too much to consider it.... A pity!

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Nah... Insane price. Approximately 700 elements without the blue studs, for 70 euros. Nope. I will wait the discount, like the others above me. (Or buy it because of the 60th year promo, but dunno' yet)

But in the other hand, it's not much more pricy than the recent city gas station... :D

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I liked the original ship design but this redesign and the cost on the Irish Lego shop site of €84.99 is not really appealing to me at the moment.

I don't know where the €15 difference in the German and Irish prices comes from. Usually they are the same.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Absurd price. I really wanted this, but I'm going to have to kiss it goodbye.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Is that a sticker across two parts on the sails? That is not nice.
Awesome set, dreadful pricing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Rats. At my current buying level, just a couple sets a year, I was really looking forward to this one. It is a pretty model, not a very challenging build. But if I wanted more trans. blue studs I'll get them at PAB, I can't justify spending $70 on a set like this. I'm sorry for you Brits and others! I foresee this one on sale...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks great, and I'm excited to pick it up! Bit of a compromise on the ship, as the OG model was amazing, but still, not bad.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Why so expensive and the piece count is greatly reduced one you take out the blue bricks for the water

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow! Look at that new disc piece with compass printed on it!

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Why are everyone saying it is expensive? There are nearly 1000 pieces in this set. I will buy this as soon as I can.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love it. It checks a lot of boxes for me. I already even have the perfect display case for it. I agree with (mdesign). It will be interesting to see if it can be built through the neck of the bottle. If so, challenge accepted.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Amazon. I'm waiting for you baby. Don't disappoint as I need at least 25% off this one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The bottle and the stand are great. Brickset should have a competition to design the best compatible ship.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

"Barge in a bottle"?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Perhaps I'm being overly cynical, but to me this set looks like a $90 CDN Polybag in a bottle. I found the idea of a ship in a bottle to be rather exciting. Maybe I set my expectations too high, but this set has left me feeling rather disappointed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've noticed a few sets recently where the $price matches the £price. Why does the exchange rate vary so much for lego sets? Sometimes we get a good deal in the UK but mostly not.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I want to love this but the brick-built bottle just doesn't work. This is one of those times where you just can't get around not having specialised pieces.

Also not a fan of how excessively and unnecessarily elaborate the base seems to be, it kinda looks like half the pieces in the set are just for that.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

An ugly, niche set at a ridiculous price? I forsee a repeat of the Adventure Time monstrosity. Permanently discounted, still not selling...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I would say I too preferred the original model for the ship. I think it looks okay but wished they would have stayed with what the builder had designed. I am sure there are reasons as there always are with Lego design.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Sorry, but Lepin did a much better job copying the original ideas submission. Sure, the bottle was really flimsy (due to the number of panels on top of each other), but it was a goldmine for trans-clear parts.

At the UK price, this is a no-go.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The bottle looks a bit sloppy; it needed larger panels for some its sections. The stand is quite attractive, but the ship isn't very exciting. There's a fundamental problem here: LEGO models look worse the smaller they are, and for a relatively life-sized bottle build, the ship had to be compromised.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't wait for this one. My early 2018 purchases are going to be massive, with this one, Downtown Diner, and Shanghi .

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yes, the original ship looked WAY better, but it was also too big for retail. This is still an amazing design and will be the first Ideas set I get.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

To those wondering about building through the neck - forget it. The neck is not open. Take the "cork" out and the glass is sealed at the bottom of the neck.

To me, it is a not very good ship model in a not very good bottle. At a not very good price.

There is no craftsmanship here. It is building a polybag style ship and building a bottle around it.

The display look would have been much better with a new larger panel for the sides of the bottle as the joins are right where the ship is.

The stand is nice though.

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

A nice and rather unique set, but ultimately not the kind of thing I'd buy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like it, but I don’t £69.99 like it. For that reason, I’m out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I agree, it is priced a little too high for so many small generic pieces, but I consider it on par with Architecture sets and not all that shocking. I don't mind paying a little extra for what should essentially be a more limited set and consider the extra a contribution to the designer and the Ideas submission program. I won't mind one bit adding this to my ship collection.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

a built-in ‘compass’ (non-functioning)

Goes well with the usual "ship does not float" disclaimer on ship sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Imo, naming a ship "Leviathan" kinda seems like tempting fate...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice looking antique style lego set, probably only worth £50 rather than £70 but I hope it does, well in stores and doesn't sink in 2018,
For the money lego are asking I hope the bottle is a sturdy structure even without the brown stand..

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Brits complaining about the price should be mindful of VAT and the volatility of Sterling. Today, $70 is about £63, not £50. But also Sterling is bouncing around like a lunatic. Lego isn’t the only company hedging bets (and the UK does well on larger sets).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope that someone gets my, I hope that someone gets my...Lego Ship in a Bottle...sendin' out an SOS, sendin' out an SOS...

@jerjer...Do you not know how the Lego Ideas system works? Oh man...lol.

I love the base on this but wish they kept more the look of the original ship from the designer. I'm guessing this is more stable and easier for kids to build? I was also hoping they'd make new round/curved pieces for this to give the bottle a better look.
Still looks like a great display model. Would definitely pick this up and moc different ships. I might do a Helicarrier in a Bottle? Hmmm could be fun!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Coming from a city near the North Sea this is somewhat of a no-brainer for me. However the fact the bottle is divided into so many segments due to the various panels is really distracting from the ship. The bottle looks like it is glued.
It will still be fun to see which other micro ships might fit inside. Maybe even the Sponge Bob - Flying Dutchman?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The stand and the bottle look pretty good but I like the old ship design much better. It’s not too bad in the US so I might still pick this one up.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Unfortunately another price rort for long suffering New Zealand Lego fans . NZ price ($149.99) equates to $108US. C'mon Lego , I know we are at the bottom of the world but a 50%+ price premium is excessive!

Gravatar
By in United States,

After all the negative comments about the leaked image (which I purposely didn't look at) I am very pleasantly surprised. I think it still looks good. Sure it's smaller, but that doesn't make it bad per say. I definitely am still going to buy it... first ideas set since Wall-E that I've really wanted.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

As usual, overpriced. So have to wait 2 years for a possible sale. IDEAS sets do go on sale. I recently got yellow submarine 30% off, which was OK.

Gravatar
By in Greece,

I quite like how it turned out! The designer's idea behind that set was great and it is really a testament to what LEGO bricks can build.

The base is great and the ship is intricate enough to not feel boring in any way. I also love the box graphics trend that appears both at the ship in a bottle and at the old fishing store.

What really strikes me as odd though is the transition between the trans clear curved panels used right after the bottle neck and the rest of the trans clear panels, as when seen from the sides, you first see a single horizontal line "cutting" the bottle in half, that afterwards continues in 2 horizontal lines due to the parts used.

All in all a very interested set that really goes off the beaten path (fortunately same as most IDEAS sets do)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

If this was "Bottle on a stand", it would be a great (looking) set. But the ship looks as if it came from a polybag (i.e., much too toyish).

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This set looks gorgeous! Although, it's smaller than I expected, so is the price of €74.99 (NL), which is pretty reasonable. I'm not getting this one though, the classic theme doesn't really suit me, but I am curious about those new pieces and in what other ways they can be used.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Too much for such a small set. Take the bottle away and you can build this for about $10. Polybag in a Bottle.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't understand what they're talking about with the wax seal piece - isn't it just a circular tile? I would assume it's connected by one of those technic pins which basically is studded at one end (I don't know the part number/name), unless the "new" aspect is it's got a pin as part of the piece?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The ship ruins it. All this set up and drama with the base and bottle for a silly little ship. Next.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Beautiful.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I hate to say it, but I think Lego has ruined this Ideas project

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Does the bottle actually hold wine?

Asking for a friend.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Are the loose studs a new building technique for Lego? I don’t remember seeing it in official sets.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

That looks awesome! The compass is great. And it does not look like it will be too expensive either.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The base and bottle look great, the ship looks very bad. I wonder about the bottle neck and cork part sagging and falling off over time. I will have to see it in "person" to really make a decision.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Looking close up at the curved seams in the middle of the bottle there are in fact several one plate thick gaps, i.e. holes in the bottle, not very nice...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@magykfyre - The Xmas snow globe from 2016 had some loose 'snow' in it (white 1x1 round tiles).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like all of the clear pieces in the set. It would make a nice parts pack.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Cool set but the price is unreasonable.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I really don't like this set at all, and for this price... Easy skip I think

Gravatar
By in United States,

All those in the UK whinging about the price discrepancy with the US should understand the pain of Technic fans in the USA. Not only do we typically see list prices 10 to 20% higher (especially when US sales tax is factored in), but we almost never see the discounts that are available in Europe. Distribution is so poor that only Lego stores and TRU carry the large sets and they almost never go on sale. So yeah, cry me a river...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Mickitat, I definitely do not see a sticker across two parts. In fact, I don't see any stickers at all. It looks to me like all decorated parts are printed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So, looks like half of these comments are complaining the ship is too small and they should have kept the original, which was twice the piece count and would have been twice the price, and the other half are saying it's too expensive.

Do I have that right?

Gravatar
By in Indonesia,

Bottle and stand look better than they original, ship itself disappointing. Especially the masts look truncated, i.e. too short compared to the real thing, see for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batavia_ (ship) The length of the ship should roughly equal its height.

As always, the good news when talking flawed or less than ideal Lego sets/designs is that it's always possible to modify things as you like. And designing a different ship doesn't look too difficult to me, with the pictures of the Ideas ship providing plenty of inspiration!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hard pass. Terrible price - especially since 100-150 of the pieces are pips.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I say we help our UK friends by buying American kits en masse and posting them to the UK via ground freight/ship where they can then be sold at just a slight over US prices.

As long as a closest AFOL is working UK customs that is...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

For that price the bottle should come filled with rum.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks great. I can’t wait to get it. And with Voltron coming out later I think this is going to be another great year for the Ideas line.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@hawkopolis - yes, you are right. The higher resolution picture shows it. There are three parts for the sail, not just the two I was making out. Thanks! :)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I think the bottle and stand look absolutely fantastic! I'd buy the set for these alone. The ship looks a bit simple, but fair enough.
I'll get it, even if it is 749SEK (about 75EUR) for mostly loose 1x1 round plates :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

too expensive.....again......although nice to see an original idea for once. Not one for me.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I totally overlooked they actually include the studs into the total piece count. Come on now Lego group, that's on the expensive side even with all the specialized big transparent pieces

I totally was going to get this for the 60th promo

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

When compared to the original Lego Ideas design the ship looks terrible.
Does anyone know why the design changed so much from idea to finished model ?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

@LegoFan1970 The original design is a much bigger bottle that allows the ship to have a taller spar and looks more realistic (with the layers of sails and sprouts and all). They probably reduced size to cut down the overall cost. But yes, it wouldn't be too much difference to the current price tag to include more transparent pieces to build a bigger bottle...

I am going to do some MOC on the ship in it anyway (probably just going to stick the mini blacksea barracuda in it).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thanks bseraph for the info, I'll probably still get one but wait a few months until it is on offer

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Funny: when I supported this idea, they asked me what a fair price would be for the original model. I said $150 Canadian Dollars. This product is much much smaller and I too am disappointed. Here in Canada, it's $90 + tax which I feel is too high. $70 US + tax is actually about $10 Canadian dollars less, which is slightly more reasonable. If the US price is $69, then $79 would and should be the price, not $89. I want one for display and one for parts. I think I will pick this set up in the USA.

@LEGO Group - If you guys had actually made the original model, I would have spent $300! You guys have a lot of disappointed fans! I hope you learned your lesson; keep to the original models as much as you can.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

UK prices include VAT (sales tax), US & Canada do not.
So £69.99 = £58.32 before tax which is USD$78.88 (compared to 69.99) or CAD$99.06 (compared to 89.99).
There's still a price disparity but not as large as the initial figures indicate. There may also be different tariffs imposed on TLG for importing products into different countries.

Back on topic, this model ruins most of the point of the original ideas set which was absolutely beautiful and now looks extremely childlike. And surely a couple of hundred bricks just tossed in as water but not attached to anything can't conform to "legal" building rules..! Similar to BTTF when the original submission was great (or maybe there were multiple competing sets and people were just voting for anything BTTF? Don't recall.) and the released model was.. meh.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm still gonna' pick this up but the build of the little ship is so much more interesting and looked to be a fun build from the original designer. I wished they kept that look and hooking in the string too in various parts plus those little puffs of smoke using the ice cream pieces is very charming.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m surprised people aren’t jumping on this with plans to put their own custom ships inside. You don’t like this version? BUILD YOUR OWN? Maybe I’ll do a spaceship in a bottle.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is kind-of a neat set. But if you've ever seen the original design, it's heartbreaking. The "what could have been"...

The base on the original had a cannon (!) instead of a harpoon, and claw-things to hold the bottle, and a decorative chain.

The stopper had chains over the end, and an intricate design for the closure. I like the stopper and seal, but I liked the old cap design better.

And the difference between the two ships? Night and day. The original actually looks somewhat to scale, rather than like a 3yo's toy.

I was very excited about this, but after looking at the ship I have to pass. Very sad.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I will defo be getting this. Shame it had to be changed so much. I am sure this was priced up at £169.99 when the article first came up.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

First impression... The price seems alright! I can't imagine myself saying this because usually it's not the case. And I intentionally not to scroll down to the comments here, before making the impression. So anyway, think of it as a bottle that can be used to display some other Lego sets, if the ship doesn't look mature enough, which I totally agree too!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I forgot how much people here complain about things.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

This is a shadow of the original Idea, the bottle 'may' be better (but smaller) but the ship is smaller and far less detailed so no longer in the same league as the original. Worse still, the price in the Irish web store shows as EUR 84.99 which must be a mistake? EUR 15 more than most of the other EURO sites (Germany, France, Italy, Spain)? Will be skipping based on ridiculous price and more importantly, terrible design.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I really love this set - definite purchase. The ship is one mast shorter than the original submission - and I wonder what it looks like without the top flag on the stern ...

Gravatar

I voted for this set on ideas, but there's no way I'm going to be buying it.

First and foremost, the ship is a lost less sophisticated than the original design. The new one looks like a creators set.

Secondly, the cost of the set... £70 UK?! I don't think so. Especially when a third of those pieces are 1x1 studs.

Only thing they kept from the original idea was the two globes!! Awful looking set!!

Not really a £70 set.
TLG have miscalculated badly once again.

This is probably worth £30.
I'll wait until I can get it 50% off at least.

It would be cool if LEGO released some "extra ships" for this sometime in the future. Mini recreations of past Pirates vessels (and perhaps other themes like Ninjago!) They could make little packs with two or three ships and you could swap them for the default.

@Loerwyn I think by "wax seal piece" they mean the printing on the piece, not the piece itself.
