What's going on with Clumsy Guy? He has 13x more views than the second place.

By in Canada,

That's what i'm wondering

By in Australia,

Haha, I was thinking the same, it's such a random minifigure.

By in Norway,

I'm starting to wonder if someone's screwing with this site, like setting up a script to load the same random page thousands of times. Maybe we need something to filter out repeat requests from the same IP number?

Thought I might as well come and join the party seeing as I was thinking the same thing.

By in Australia,

Maybe it was an accident?

By in United Kingdom,

Last week a couple of old police stations were at the top. Huw said all it takes is a Reddit post linking to a Brickset page, and lots a traffic goes to that page.
Really weird though!

Anomalies in these numbers are almost always attributable to Reddit. I watched the Clumsy Guy receiving those views on Google Analytics earlier this week and the traffic was coming entirely from Reddit. Presumably the minifigure was being discussed on a post which had received a particularly large number of upvotes.

By in France,

Nebulousdavid thanks for the link. People can tell what they want about TLC, each time I had to wrote or phone to Lego customers service, I have always been so well received and answered, by gentle and patient people, and my issues has always been solved very quickly and even better than I could imagine. Those stories with the wheel chair and that boy loosing his Jay minifig are very good examples of what this customer service can be. I also sometimes had to cope with other companies (for cell phones issues, house or car insurances for instance) - which are big and rich ones too - but does not consider their customers as well as Lego does.

@nebulousdavid
Why were they discussing a 6 year old story about a missing Jay minifigure?

By in Canada,

I was wondering about Clumsy Guy, too. That's hilarious.

From the linked Reddit thread:

Yes, they clearly predicted how clumsy I am. I mean, they literally made a minifigure of me: https://brickset.com/sets/71011-4/Clumsy-Guy

From Wikipedia:

Reddit effect
Main article: Slashdot effect
Also known as the "Slashdot effect", the Reddit effect occurs when a smaller website has a high influx of traffic after being linked to on Reddit.[156] It is also called the "Reddit Hug of Death" among the website's users. Because Reddit is such a large site, the traffic is immense and can easily crash smaller sites. In order for users to see crashed websites, several Reddit bots have been created that take a snapshot of the website before large amounts of traffic flood the affected website.
