The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part poster

Posted by ,

A new teaser poster for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part has just been published on LEGO's official Twitter feed. The poster shows Emmet, Wyldstyle and several other characters from the first movie, all of whom are reflected in the visor of a sinister being which appears to be an 'alien' invader of some kind.

Furthermore, a trailer for the upcoming film will be released tomorrow so I suggest keeping an eye on the Brickset homepage for additional information about that.

Let us know what you think of this poster in the comments.

By in United States,

I'm really digging the new character designs - can't wait for the trailer tomorrow!

By in United States,

Is that a space mini-doll? I'm excited for the trailer!

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I like that you can spot a reflection of the Statue of Liberty on the poster. Really hope that the movie will be good.

By in United Kingdom,

I reckon that's either a mini-doll, or some kind of off-brand minifigure... time will tell. I'm excited! Glad the original team (and presumably cast) is back.

By in Norway,

Benny has his arm cut off and replaced with a robot hand. Classic darker sequel.

By in United States,

Is it possible that the spaceman is a DUPLO figure? After all, that's what was indicated at the end of The LEGO Movie.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Unikitty has evolved into Unicat! Is Wyldstyle wearing a quiver? The goggles and (as others have said) all the new character designs look great, too. There's already so much going on in such a simple image. Can't wait!

By in United States,

I think the reflection of minifigures in the visor is a great technique, totally looking forward to the trailer tomorrow!

By in Germany,

This looks interesting, I like the Statue of Liberty in the back, looks a bit like it has been broken, Planet of the Apes reference? I also presume the antagonist is female / mini doll / Duplo figure and the movie is probably about girl vs boy play style.

By in United Kingdom,

Yay - more collectible Batman figures...

Gravatar
By in United States,

The poster reminds me of that Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge Box Art.

By in Netherlands,

The return of Galidor?

Gravatar
By in United States,

That helmet looks like an excellent Megaman helmet to me personally. :)
So looking forward to the trailer and movie!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the changes to the characters, Unikitty is awesome, Batman has glamour armor on.

However I really wish they would change the main character more. How many more of the same ugly construction worker look do we need?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is this taking place in the LEGO Apocalypse? Everyone looks like they are dressed to be in Mad Max! haha

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice that the tag line is and has been represented on the creativity tree inside LEGO House since it opened. That's cool. Spoilers! ;o)

By in United States,

That aliens helmet looks awesome, and I love Unikitty's headress.

The shoulderpads on that alien make it look like it might be one of those NEXO Knights robots, but as other have said it may be a minidoll. Unikitty's got a crazy new brickbuilt headress, and appears to have a larger head than before (similar to her Angry Kitty form but printed.) Benny looks like he has a robot arm like Dr. Inferno. Wyldstyle has a new neck peice, quiver, and googles. Emmet is more or less the same. Batman has new shoulder pads and arm printing (and so probably new torso printing.) Brickbeard looks like he's built a bit differently, but it's a little hard to tell how much is different, I can make out cannons for shoulder pads and a crow's nest on his back. Vitruvius is of course dead and not here.

Nice Statue of Liberty in the background. Wonder if it's a Planet of the Apes reference, or a nod to the recent Arcitechture set.

Nothing to add, except:
YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!

(And @JeagarEX: so happy to hear that there's another fan\someone-who's-heard-of-it out there! Still play that oldie-but-goodie regularly.)

By in United States,

I actually hate it I never thought I would say that?!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They come in pieces.. Epic slogan, can't wait for the sequel lego,

The lego Movie: wave 2... Lol.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Liking that helmet

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

^^ Psycho kitty?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It looks like the characters are in the post-apocalypse judging by the Mad Max/Planet of the Apes influences. I bet this is a clever way to represent Finn going through the "Dark Ages".

Gravatar
By in France,

More Classic Space please

By in Spain,

That helmet looks like a Kamen Rider action figure

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow. It is a little scary.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This really makes me want to know what's happening here and I think that's the sign of a good teaser poster... I'm digging the post-apocalyptic look, this looks interesting.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Whoa, Batman's new armor has tires for shoulder pads! What? Transformbat?

LOVE Benny's face in this poster though.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

They come in pieces, an alien form with not great looking graphic on it. Is the sequel about the war between the LEGOs and the LEPINs?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It looks fantastic, everyone determined and ready to retaliate against the 'villain', except for Emmet obliviously smiling away 'everything is awesome !'

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

with everyone looking a bit post-apocalyptic, I do kind of hope this isn't going to be a time travel thing

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The helmet’s neck perfectly lines up with a mini doll. I am pretty sure that is what is under the helmet...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is the "Tires for Shoulder Pads" on Batman's armor a reference to Demolition Man? Because if it isn't, it should be.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is Unikitty's head five studs wide?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can you say "Exploriens" ?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hang on a minute, mini-dolls aren't able to put one foot forward like a normal fig, are they? (no, i don't have any) If that's the case, how ate they going to walk because characters in the Lego Movies respect minifig articulation?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@akunthita: I always got the impression that the Duplo invasion at the end of the movie was a self-contained joke (oh no, the little sister is going to be down here now! This is gonna change things!) and not a sequel hook. Everything I've heard about the LEGO Movie sequel indicates that it will take place some years after The LEGO Movie, and consequently Finn's sister is probably going to have moved on from Duplo.

The helmet having a heart-shaped visor and the surrounding area of the poster being pink and sparkly further reinforces the idea that it may be a new mini-doll character representing more feminine-skewing LEGO themes. I'm certainly hyped for that! Part of what made the first movie so great was that it offered commentary on a fault many LEGO fans struggle with… being open to kids' creative tastes and impulses even when they are confusing or don't make sense from an adult point of view. This movie will have just as much room for commentary on the struggle of stepping outside one's comfort zone in terms of gender.

The post-apocalyptic vibes of the main cast could also be played from this angle as well as the "dark ages" angle some people have suggested. As boys grow up there's a lot of pressure to avoid things that are perceived as cute, childish, or frivolous, and that is intrinsically tied in with pressures to avoid "girly" things (which are stereotyped as being all of the above). So the arrival of mini-doll characters to a world that's started to move in macho, edgy action movie direction is a clash of cultures that has plenty of potential for conflict… and, if the LEGO Movie is any indication, that conflict will be resolved not with one side vanquishing the other but with the two opposing perspectives learning to build on each other's strengths.

@Brickulator 93: Maybe it's an updated or non-standard mini-doll, or maybe they'll move by hopping or by rocking side to side. Certainly having designs with limited articulation didn't hold Vitruvius or Unikitty back in the first movie.

By in Puerto Rico,

Seems Value of is back, kidding I was hoping not to spend on this movie.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Was I the only one who just straight up read this poster as "invasion of the non-Lego toys from beyond"? (As it turns out it's somewhat misleading ;) ) or two people mentioned a possible link to clone or just simply competitor brands, and that's not totally out of the question. After all, the aim of Warner Brothers as distributors is not to sell Lego toys - it's to entertain audiences and sell movie tickets.

The other approach is that I might anticipate HEAVY references to Andy's arc in Toy Story 3 where he becomes 'too old' for his toys - good thing that doesn't happen with Lego. Or does it... oooooh

Edit - already seen confirmation of what the fig in the poster is thanks to the forum, was hoping it was competitor brands BUT I hope they still make a cameo in some way! I'd like to see how they approached it, even if they remained unbranded by name.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really would like to see some of LEGO's weirder themes and characters get some love in this. Girly themes and mini-dolls invading sounds cool, maybe Finn strikes back with some "EDGY" themes like Dino Attack or Dinosaurs; Space themes like Blacktron, Space Police, or maybe Mars Mission, Alien Conquest, and Galaxy Squad; Exo-Force (I'm no fan of the genre, but an Anime world with the crazy hairsyles and giant mechs & monsters constantly fighting would be hilarious); Technic sets and Racers; and my old flame, BIONICLE. Opposing them you've got Friends, Elves, Fabuland, Belvile, and DUPLO. Which sounds ridiculous and awesome. Here's hoping!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@Brickulator 93 - characters in the Lego Movies definitely do not respect minifig articulation. Bateman even has his arms crossed in that poster.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@yamaki, I agree with the girl vs boy play style idea. I even mentioned it in a comment in the article stating the name of the movie.

I’m really excited to learn the plot. I’ve literally been checking google recently..... just in case the trailer comes early. (Of course I know it’s highly unlikely the trailer will release early)

Gravatar
By in Taiwan,

@Rancor I see there might be some interesting ideas, but some other contradictions would happen. Such as, if Mattel Barbie would be in this film, they could rename the film into LEGO versus BARBIE instead of TLM2 which would mislead audience.

Also, if LEGO is able to collaborate with those rival toy companies, they'd rather do LEGO Barbie or LEGO Transformers to make the whole film more coherent instead of really inserting different toys.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@CarolinaOnMyMind: For those sorts of poses, the LEGO movies usually just pop the minifig arms out of their sockets and have them "hover" beside the torso, so they're not technically flexing in any ways that the real parts could not. That's not to say the movies never cheat in other ways, though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wyldstyle’s look is so badass! And I like the idea of the mini doll villain!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This is really awesome.
This is really cool, if it's not part of a dream.
This is really awesome.
Now I'm waiting with gleam....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Having seen a full pic of the character, I now want several- possibly in different colours....& maybe a Battle of the Planets theme.

I did also note how the arm is bent at the elbow, not something you see on minidolls

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Toc13 Lego don’t mind removing the limbs from their peg holes in theses movie but they don’t bend them. Batman’s crosses arms here are simply disarticuled and have not be changed from the position they were moulded in.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Really looking forward to see this movie!

I only find that alien thingy too little LEGO-like.

And @BovineBrick, please let's hope not.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Metalbeard is constructed differently.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So, it's minifigures versus minidolls? Count me in!
