75251 Darth Vader's Castle has been announced on this week's edition of The Star Wars Show! This set contains 1060 pieces and costs $129.99 in the US. It will be available for pre-order on Amazon tomorrow but the official release date has yet to be confirmed.

Two different versions of Darth Vader, two Royal Guards and an Imperial Transport Pilot are all included. The latter character is inspired by Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, a virtual reality experience which opened towards the end of last year.

You can view some more images after the break...

Thanks to Coolguy5000 for bringing this to our attention.

By in United States,

First! Seriously though, I think this will probably sell well, but I just don't see the appeal. You only get six figs, and one is a dupe. I'll wait though for images of the back.

Gravatar
By in United States,

eech looks like krennic & kylo shuttle had a baby.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seriously, a good playset and good for those not willing to spend 400 quid on a small TIE Fighter.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I think it looks great! It's a nice display piece and playset. And the bacta tank Vader is fantastic, although it might have been more accurate if he was a little more flesh coloured, at least from what I remember from those 3 seconds we saw of him in rogue one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks grand to me, nice to get a playset of this size. For the price though they could have included Krennic and/or Vanee, even though they're not part of Vader Immortal.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Didn't see that coming O.o

Gravatar
By in Czech Republic,

anybody noticed the new / different insignia in upper right corner of the box?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks good but the box art catches me as it looks pretty cool

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Getting the impression of a toss up between a micro scale from the front, and a play set minifigs back. Guess to unknown location to go all in Hogwarts style.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pretty cool, and definately unexpected! Personally I'd rather they have left out Vader's TIE Advanced, it's too small, a better one came out just last year, and the pieces could have further expanded the castle itself. Overall though I'd say this is one of the better SW sets in years (of course 20.00 too expensive though lol).

Gravatar
By in France,

The theme of the set is great.
The building is a bit too small and so are the different rooms and their related features.
For example, I would have prefered to have a real size meditation room for Darth Vader.
Hi special Tie Fighter is slightly bigger than he one the Death Star but definitely too small for a real play.
So, I'm a bit disappointed but I might buy it after all because I'm a big fan of Star Wars, Darth Vader and Lego!

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I’m not a SWfan but this kinda look good! -And the Darth Vader nanofigs, omg!! <3

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Kudos for Lego for the Secrets of the Empire nod. A fantastic experience if anyone had the chance to do it .

Plus another Lego figure for actor Sam Witwer . Makes three after Maul and Starkiller

Gravatar
By in United States,

What a great surprise! I'll be picking this up for sure.

Is this the first time we've ever had an Amazon-exclusive set?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^As far as I know, yes.

Though do expect the usual 20% price drop in 4-6 months after release, which makes it under 10 cents a piece.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Vader has a castle? What the heck??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not bad. I'm interested in that 'Imperial Transport Pilot' even though I am not familiar with the character. Was hoping Krennic would be included as I didn't get his shuttle. Kind of wish it included the room where Vader talks to Krennic too.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh Boy oh Boy. Will probably wait to get this set until at least I have all the others released this autumn. Looking forward to getting it though.

Edit - that Imperial Transport Pilot has some 501st vibes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the redesigned mouse droid

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

@Bigo, I know what you mean?!
Did I miss an episode of something?
Maybe Episode 4B where he survives the death star attack, gets knocked into outer space by Han, crashes on Planet Castle and considers living the life of a lord before teaming up again with the evil Emporer to plan an attack on Hoth...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I only watched the last Jedi today it was good but not great.. However, this is great even other villain minifigs could hideout here, add some green & purple and my lex luther minifig would be proud, its incredible 10/10 billund..

Also you can never have enough Royal Guards.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@bigospedro and PaNic - Darth Vader's castle on Mustafar was introduced in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story but has since appeared in Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That was fast! Love the shoretrooper-like blue minifig!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Amazon exclusive? I hope that doesn’t extend to the rest of the world because as far as I’m aware Amazon is still only for books here in Australia

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The most interesting thing about this set is, that it has been succesfully kept a secret. Seems as if the interest in Lego in general is dwindling, so no one cared to sniff this gem out. :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really happy to see a playset like this! But Saruman had a much better tower! Maybe Vader can kick Saruman out of his palace.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@judgeguy. The transport pilot is a member of the rebellion who takes you to the castle in Secrets of the Empire.

We never see his face.

Shame the proto-sabre wasn't included but the Chima sword would work as a replacement.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really good, but the price kind of turns me away. It's not just that I can't afford it, but it's also that the minifig selection is a bit too small for my taste- I'd love a Krennic fig in the set as well.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Poor selection of figs. The set could have at least included Vaneé for that price (might have thought about buying it if it did) and he would have been fairly easy to produce too.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Cool, but the lack of Krennic is honestly confusing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not sure if I will get this. I think it looks great I just don't know if I can justify the price. If it goes on sale 6-12 months from now I might grab it. I would love it if lego would start doing more location based sets like this one.

They need to make a Jedi Temple to go along with this one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool. I completely forgot about the small scene in Rogue One where this was featured. I might pick it up just for the Vader's tie fighter.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Beautiful set but what is this set based on? I dont recognize it from any of the movies or TV shows

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not familiar with secrets of the empire although I do remember this from Rogue One. Looks pretty impressive, although there are some other locations which I would rather have seen.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool like this. Always wanted this in Lego form, though this was lacking in rogue one. Wish director krennic was in this though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Never heard of Secrets of the Empire AND have no recollection of it in Rogue One. I guess I have to watch it a fourth time...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks impresive though a bit dissapointed that Vader chamberlin isn't included and that is open from behind but I may get it next year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great to see another large Star Wars set that is not a ship added to the pretty short list. It is very cool looking!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@crayxmp: Good spotting! Nice to see LEGO-specific branding taking over from the generic branding previous sets shared with other non-LEGO Star Wars merchandise.

@sparrownest: Not unusual for models of big locations in general to be scaled down, just by virtue of most buildings in real life being too big to depict at an accurate scale in LEGO at any affordable price, and many fictional movie settings being even more monumental in size.

Consider the $200, 2500-piece Simpsons House set, which despite having a flexible floor plan according to the needs of individual episodes within the show itself, had to combine or compress several rooms and remove others out entirely. Needless to say, if a set of a four-bed, two-bath suburban home can't be scaled accurately to its human-scaled subject at less than $200, there's no way a set of anything large enough for moviegoers to recognize it as a believable castle/palace could be scaled accurately to its human-scaled subject at less than $150.

To those bewildered at the idea of Vader having a castle, I should mention that besides its recent canon appearances, Vader's castle was based on concepts created for scenes in "The Empire Strikes Back" which were moved to the Super Star Destroyer in the final script: http://www.forcematerial.com/home/2016/12/17/dark-lord-of-the-manor-the-origin-of-darth-vaders-castle

And even before Rogue One made it canon, the idea of Vader having a creepy evil castle he called home persisted in expanded universe material in the now-retconned "Legends" continuity. So it's not some weird new idea that Disney randomly decided to introduce, just one that the original trilogy didn't really have an appropriate opportunity to show or mention.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Holy crap! What a surprise.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That white greebly box art is awesome! And you can tell 100% that Disney aren't trying to plug any particular film because Lego have been allowed to show a minifigure depiction of one of the characters again on the box art - that hasn't happened since the classic first couple of years of Lego Star Wars (and maybe its 10th anniversary in 2009). Great way to usher in the 20th anniversary of Lego Star Wars in 2019!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am actually very impressed with this set. A lot of sets from Star Wars and even Superheroes have consisted of vehicles and very few location based kits. Also, I missed out of the Tower of Orthanic released way back when the Hobbit sets were around. This looks like a nicely scaled down version of that set, and for some odd reason, Vader's castle is one of my all time favorite locations in Star Wars, with the vast legends and even canon history. Not sure if I will be able to get this one, but maybe I will be able and it will go nicely with other sets I have.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They've been toying with putting in Vader's Castle since 1977.
I remember first seeing a sketch of it when Star Wars had this traveling museum visiting various cities.
Ralph McQuarrie did the initial sketches. First initially in the snow, then they went for the lava landscape. It was meant to be somewhere in the Empire Strikes Back but never got off the ground.
I loved seeing it in Rogue One.
I like this model but somethings missing. Maybe a bigger rock face/cliff to see more lava surrounding the cliff

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got to experience Secrets of the Empire in Anaheim earlier this year. It made me SWEAT with terror when Darth Vader finally showed up towards the end. It was crazy! An unforgettable experience. I loved the castle in Rogue One and in Secrets of the Empire, and I think this set does it justice. I personally like it better than Cloud City, and the fact its probably going to be a lot cheaper than Cloud City to makes it a must buy for me... Time to start saving cash for it next year!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also is the Amazon exclusivity just for pre-orders? Or is Amazon now going to retail exclusive Lego sets?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m not a huge SW fan. I collect a few of the minifigs and small sets here and there. Mostly ones that others by me as gifts. I think it’s great that this location is getting a set and I’m super impressed by it remaining a secret. It’s too rare these days that we don’t have genuine surprise when LEGO unveils something new. I feel most sets get ripped apart online before anyone actually has a chance to see or touch them in person. Kudos LEGO

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fantastic! I'd heard rumors, but this is much better than I was expecting. I would have liked Vanee or Krennic, and the TIE looks iffy, but the set itself looks great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very surprising indeed, wasn’t expecting LEGO to make Vader's castle, although I know people wanted it! Might have to get this when it’s a little cheaper though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It amazes me LEGO can make such bad sets that should be so awesome. At least the back looks nice.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks Awesome. What is that little room with the nanofigs?

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I laughed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Guessing this would be been the TRU exclusive set in the US? Like the Sith Infiltrator and Rebels Assault Cruiser. Those sets were also released in the August/September timeframe. This one is appearing later, but perhaps because the usual channel partner is gone.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh, nice. To me, Vader's castle will always be Bast Castle on Vjun (thanks for that, Jedi Academy PC game)... but this is a nice-looking set with an appropriately Vaderish aesthetic, I like it.

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

Wow, this looks a lot better than I thought it would!
I'm not entirely sure about the interior though. That medical pod chamber takes up a lot of space that I feel could've been used for something else, though at the same time I can't really think of what else they could've put, so it's not that big of a deal.
The price is also a tad high IMO.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

That is a teeny-tiny TIE fighter.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well happy that this turned out to be true, because this is a great set. Reminds me a little of Garmadon's Volcano Lair, except here the exterior not sloppy. Fantastic minifigures, the new Bacta Tank Vader is great. Though 5 for such an expansive set so a little disappointing, Krennic or The Emperor would have been welcomed. The outside looks terrific and menacing, looks like something Vader would reside in. The mini tie is fine, nothing special but it doesn't take away from the set. I think the interior is really nice and cool, has a good amount of different rooms. Overall really digging this set, so far this is the only Star Wars set of 2019 that interest me besides the 20th anniversary sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks tiny and pathetic. It could have been so much better. I’d rather it cost $300 and actually be good.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not a Lego Star Wars fan much at all really but I kinda like this the building looks good and generic enough to not even be star wars as part of an evil castle moc, and I do like the early films so Vader and the small tie fighter are nice for somebody like me who wouldn't mind owning one as part of something else.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Now available at Lego shop for pre order
Shipping early December!

Gravatar
By in France,

Already ordered on [email protected] as soon as I saw the new! Pre order now and will be shipped on December 1st. I love it. Surprising, unexpected, beautiful, very esthetic, never done before : I love it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not the best set... But it’s something new! And not a new version of something.. will probably be the one of the very few sets I purchase from LEGO this year..

More of this please LEGO, we are tired of the re hash designs of previous sets, especially with Star Wars, I had disturbing visions of going back to the dark years of not buying anything as I was bored of any thing new / re hash coming out..

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Vader's Castle? Yeah, TLG finally listened to their audience.

Next will be Vader's Pirate Hideout, followed Vader's Western Fort and Vader's Galaxy Explorer. Ah yes, and Vader's Winter Village Cottage.
;-P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the concept, but it looks way too pokey and small. The mini-Tie is kinda cool in how well done it is for being so small, but the building itself doesn't seem practical as a display piece, or a play set. Its not quite detailed enough for a good display, and the room are way too tiny for a good play piece. And while it is 1060 pieces, it looks like a good portion of those are wasn't on the ground floor structure.

I can't see this selling too well without a hefty discount.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm guessing this is a tie in (heh) to the new Oculus VR game they're launching, Vader Immortal I think it's called. I think it continues the story from Secrets of the Empire, which as others have mentioned, it absolutely amazing. Darth Vader is not scary to me and has never been, but when he's calmly walking towards you, and you unload your entire clip at him and he just bats your blaster bolts away and KEEPS COMING CLOSER he is bloody terrifying.

I really like this set but that price is mad.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is a definite must-buy. But does Garmadon come with it (compare 70631)?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

You can now reserve it on line @ lego.com, site states will ship 1st December! £119.99 in UK.
If the box art is anything to go by 2019 sets could be a good year!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@CapnRex101 clearly I need to re-watch Rogue One! The wife will be pleased ...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

'There is no escape. Don’t make me destroy you. 75251 Darth Vader's Castle, you do not yet realize your importance. You have only begun to discover your power. Join me and I will complete my collection. With our combined bricks, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy.'

Jokes aside, this set looks amazing and will definitely become a part of my collection. I'll wait for the price to drop a bit, I've bought enough sets in the last couple of months.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Like the idea, shape and most of the features (esp the transport pilot, not convinced by the fighter)
Shame they have not followed the 10237 Tower of Orthanc (£170 5 years ago!) in terms of size, nb of parts and pricing to provide a pyramid of darkness in front of which Krennic's shuttle could land. But then the castle may not have been iconic enough to justify the budget and size.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Should have a warning on the box: "Contains small pieces not for children under three. Be careful not to choke on your aspirations."

Okay, that was really bad. I'm conflicted about this set, though. The castle looks great, but I find the lack of Rogue One references disturbing.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Lego just sent me an email suggesting to preorder this set for later release. So I guess they see high demand for this...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Ooooh looks like the rumours were true! This seems like a really odd choice for a set to me based on its lack of screen time and the number of missing location based sets, (especially the Yavin 4 Rebel base, Jedi Temple, Lars Homestead, Kaminoan cloning facility and Geonosian arena), but this is pretty cool. I won't buy this but it's really cool that we're getting playset in this size/price range. Hopefully more to come!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

@BionicleJedi JK:JA is great. The game references Dark Empire in this level. The castle first appeared there, and that's when the Vader statue was destroyed.

I love it. Wow. A purely new-canon based set, and I don't really have any complaints.
As soon as there's a decent discount, I'll buy it.
Only downside for me is that Krennic, the IDMR project leader from Rogue One, is not included in the set.

As for the castle itself, I'm not a fan of it being located on Mustafar, as it's such a cliché - almost Bowser-esque - to have an evil lair/retreat in a volcanic environment. In my opinion, Vjun - with its acid rainstorms and noble families that dabbled in the occult/dark side - was a more interesting location.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't believe all the people posting comments that don't know what this is or where it comes from? I think it looks great, pretty excited about it. I want it for my shelf at work. Won't fork out $130 for it, but will probably buy when it hits $100.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Ephseb - there could have actually been a lot more potential with figs for this set and not just Krennic. The reason teh castle is on Mustafar is currently being explored in the Darth Vader Comics, amusingly entitled: Fortress Vader.

Essentially Vader was in charge of the Inquisitors of Correscant but after an incident, the Emperor awarded Vader a "homeworld". He assumed he would pick Tatooine, but instead he picked Mustafar for a couple of reasons. 1. It saw his greatest defeat and created suit Vader - this channels his anger and powers his dark side abilities and 2. directly under the Castle is a dark side well which is very strong. It is also where he bled his Kyber Crystal to turn it red.

New issues are expected to show Vader with his Inquistors on the planet. The fortress was incidently designed by the Sith spirit of Lord Momin who possessed an Imperial architect who then came up with the triangular design.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@Ephseb: cliché, of course, but Vader seems in "good" company: Blofeld, Dr. Evil, Garmadon, Jestro...
Yeah baby, yeah! ;-)

@exciter1: why can't you believe comments that don't know what this is or where it's from? Aamof I don't know the source material either, and a quick survey among my friends who also watch Star Wars, they have never heard of it either. Perhaps it is rather YOU that is in the minority in that you know the source material.
Then again, I only count Episodes I through IX as true Star Wars. All the other "stuff" is non-canon in my eyes and hence of zero interest to me.
I still like the design of this set though, even though the price is absurd, just like all recent LEGO Star Wars sets here in Europe. But if there's a substantial discount to be had, this might end up being one of the few 2018 sets I end up buying.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but I don’t think it’s an Amazon exclusive. I have an email from Lego inviting to pre order and it takes me to the official Lego site.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I think it's pretty refreshing to see a new Star Wars set based on something that's never been done as a set before. Darth Vader's Castle is certainly not as iconic as you'd think it'd be, but then again there'll be more Star Wars films to come, too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Rumor is that Kylo Ren will visit the vacant ruins of this castle in Episode IX.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A cool lego set and a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

I love the artwork of the box aswell as the 2 exclusive minifigs, the castle itself is alright.

However I don't see why they have not included more exclusive figures for such a high priced lego set? Such as as a Sith Inquisitor along with some other elite troops.

Perhaps this is a good sign of LEGO sets to come as overall it is cool set and they can improve them.

The clone troopers home Kamino next LEGO I beg you lol.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally, they bring rogue one back (my favorite lego star wars line to date :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Man, if only Rebels' Lego line hadn't done so poorly we could have gotten a Malachor Sith Temple.

@stet it wouldn't surprise me; seems like an ideal hangout for the Knights of Ren.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those nanofigs like awesome!

Gravatar
By in United States,

First impression: Looks kind of small for a "castle" as pictured in Rogue One. Kids will like it, but this needed to be more like the size of Tower of Orthanc.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think it looks great and a welcome surprise. From memories the tower of orthanc might be taller but I remember being didsappointed with how little room there is inside (it is literally one figure per floor size) this castle seems to allow lots more display and interaction within each floor. Well done lego.

Gravatar
By in {Unknown country},

expecting it to be bigger but for the budget it is nice.. though some more terrain would make it a better display. i do like the sith holocron and is that, not one but, 2 x black cloaked nanofigs?? time for chissy shopping!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Secrets of the Empire in Las Vegas was fantastic. We're certainly doing that again. Do I need this? Probably not. Where's Cassian Andor and K2-SO?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool set! To bad it costs $129.99.. though. Why 2 Darth Vaders? Are they going to start
putting Darth Vader minifigures on the top of the box to the right of the words STAR
WARS?
