Friends Advent Calendar - Day 5

Posted by ,

Yesterday's ornament was excellent - best of the calendar so far - and we're starting to get a good assortment of ornaments. What will we find for our fifth day of December - will it continue the holiday spirit, or take us in another direction?

Last year, there was a fascinating article published here on Brickset about the seemingly eternal search for a well built snowman. There have been many attempts, especially in advent calendars, but none seems to have quite been an accurate representation.

Today's gift is that advent calendar staple, the snowman. I'm not sure why he has what appears to be a bullseye on his body, represented by a 2x2 medium azur round jumper and a red flower. I like the white parabolic reflector used for the feet.

I do rather like the warm gold conical horn used for the nose and the use of the T-beam with the 1x2 plate doubling as the hat/hanger. I'll also note that purple is used again in this build - both in medium lilac and bright reddish violet. The purple theme continues.

As it appears the search for the well built snowman will, as well.

Suggestion: A poll for the best advent calendar snowman.

And a poll for the haters: the worst advent calendar snowman.

So far my 9 yr. old daughter is enjoying this years' calendar much more than last. I've been enjoying the Advent articles so thank you for posting them. Having more than 3 pieces/build is a plus. She's also having fun stringing up and placing the ornaments. As for this little snow person I'm not sure why there was a need for the purple 2x2 round at the bottom, it's just not necessary and the color doesn't fit. The gray technic pins aren't great either but there wasn't much choice there. I too like the white dish on the bottom; it gives a nice snow mound look. The scarf and gold nose (although I prefer orange - more carrot like) are ok. As for the flower bulls-eye target...? No idea what that's about, but I guess it does liven it up?

Maybe the purple and blue pieces are to be some kind of sled?

Minus the confusion stemming from the blue piece, this isn’t that bad of a snowman.

This was my first Advent Calendar mixup. It's not that I got the wrong model, but instead of three 2x2 cylinder bricks with peg-holes, I got one and two regular 2x2 cylinder bricks. There's another model in this calendar that uses both, hopefully the bag for that one will have two too many with holes and two too few without.
(As for the purple and blue pieces, maybe they'll get used in the combined model.)

@TheOtherMike I also had the same exact "error" in my daughters calendar.

It's great to see a white version of that round brick with technic holes - it's one of the parts I definitely thought would help with a snowman. Shame about the grey pins though.
