Celebrating 100 LEGO brand stores in North America

There's a surprise giveaway this weekend for those of us in North America. To celebrate the opening of the 100th brand retail store in North America, all North America brand stores are offering a special minifig and poster for all purchases of $50 and over made in-store this weekend.

This giveaway was not well publicized. I discovered it through social media and (of course) as a result made it a priority to stop by a brand store earlier today. Apparently there was an e-mail blast, but I didn't receive it. Let's take a look at the poster and the minifig after the break.

The poster is one of the nicer ones I've seen LEGO offer, primarily because of the eye-catching shiny gold colour. The number 100 is drawn to look like it's built from LEGO plates. Moving the poster around in the light will highlight the shinier gold parts of the poster; namely the studs and the lines between the bricks.

I imagine most are interested in the minifig. He comes in a clamshell that features a gold card that's printed on the front and back.

Taking the minifig out of the case, we see that this looks like the LEGO store employee that we've all seen before, along with a custom printed brick documenting the occasion.

However, the back of the minifig shows that he's unique in that he also has printing commemorating the weekend.

It's a nice little giveaway, and I'm glad I was on social media this weekend to discover it. I'm rather surprised this wasn't better publicized - or maybe it was, I'm just not on the right email list!

The giveaway offer is good through this weekend, and also stacks with your choice of the January gifts with purchase: 30361 Fire ATV or 5005236 Friends Clubhouse.

Congratulations America. Now to get that number up to par with the amount of McDonald's :)

By in United States,

By in Netherlands,

Grats North America.

Now hopefully we get to at least 1 in my country :D

UK/Germany/Belgium have them "nextdoor" to my country in USA distance proportions, but still hope to get an official store in my actual country.

By in United States,

wow! very nice! oh well, I went in a store today and didn't spend quit that much. If I knew this I would have made it a priority.

By in United States,

100 stores yet none that are even close to where I live :(

By in United States,

I always felt fortunate having one 160 miles away. But if there are 99 more...where the heck are they hiding them all?

By in United States,

If there was an email blast, I didn’t receive it either. And I think I get every email that Lego could possibly send me. It sure seems that way. Anyway, I made it to my Lego store, and was pleasantly surprised to get this guy.

By in Hungary,

How many are there in those 3 countries?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh wow! I didn't know there were that many stores in this continent. Here in Northern California I live 20 minutes away from 2 LEGO brand stores. I didn't receive any e-mail about this. I wonder if the gift will be around next weekend.

By in United States,

I totally lucked into getting this. I was at the mall to return my broken cable box, passed by the Lego Store and saw the promotion. I was there the week before and there was no mention of it, either.

Gravatar
By in United States,

By the way, I think the promotion was only from January 4th-6th.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is the first I’ve heard of this.

By in Poland,

Number in Poland : 0
Can we get special brick and ugly figure for it? :D

By in Belgium,

This minifig is better printed than the Black VIP Card holder minifig…

By in Norway,

I've only been in one, when I was in Legoland 6 years ago :(

By in United States,

No email for me either. Was attending the Grand Opening in Dadeland FL (for the Store Build!) and was surprised when they threw one in, no poster and they didn't have the ATV/Friends pod offer either.

@CamelBoy68
The website doesn't show the secret stores.

By in United States,

Has anyone found a part number for this?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Only number on card I see is 46AB8

By in United States,

We need another store in Minnesota now...101...

By in Venezuela,

I do want this minifig, as you can see on my wanted list (it's so meta!). But if I got it like this, I probably wouldn't open it, at least not until I had some work enviroment for him. It looks quite lovely, however, and gold is always fancy.
Of course, it's needless to say there's not a single trace of LEGO on retail over here, let alone Brand Stores... Still, congrats on the milestone. Yay for costumer experiences!

By in United States,

Already have this minifig from Lego Store Employee polybag from a few years ago.

@Star Wars Fan:
I read about it after 9pm on Friday, so they were already closed, but when I went to the local store yesterday they had a gold sign plastered on the left door. Since the doors open outwards, and most people approach from the right, this ends up being the first thing you see as you walk up and consequently gets used to display the most significant promos.

@Deinonychus:
A lot of them seem to end up in clusters. California has 15, NY has 10, Illinois has 5 (all in the greater Chicago area), and Michigan is one of 18 states with exactly one LEGO Store. I'm curious, though, how they're getting this 100 number. According to their own website, I come up with 98 LEGO Stores in the US, 10 more (for 108 total) in Canada, and three LEGO Certified Stores in Mexico. I'm assuming they aren't counting the Mexican stores as they're not part of LEGO Brand Retail, but that still means this promo should have probably been rolled out sometime last year.

@Octopus.Boy:
No you don't. This one has a printed back commemorating 100 of the 108 LEGO Stores and 3 LEGO Certified Stores. But definitely not the rest. It's still weird that this is the UK uniform and it's still only available in North America. But at least this one is available in actual LEGO Stores, where the original one was only given out by [email protected]

By in United States,

Went to my new store in Brandon, Florida (just outside of Tampa) and they were no longer available. Got home and sent the letter below to their corporate email.

"Hello,

I'm an avid LEGO enthusiast that has been collecting for +30 years (including Star Wars sets for their entire 20 year run) and have always appreciated the company's products, values, and customer service. I've witnessed the growth of LEGO in all facets from the addition of new types/colors of parts, the expanding portfolio of licensed themes, electronic integration into sets, and the addition of a social media aspect.

One area that has been of concern/frustration is the exclusive minifigures which are nearly impossible for the average fan to obtain. It started with convention exclusives of popular characters doled out in minuscule amounts. This grew into limited edition convention sets with marked up prices ($40 for a set worth approximately half that if it were a wide release).

This trend has now spilled over to LEGO stores now. I receive multiple emails per month (sometimes +2 a week) and was not informed of the exclusive 100 stores in North America gift with purchase which was available Friday-Sunday (January 4-6). In fact, I only found out about it because an article posted on a European website (Brickset). That is not how a VIP should be treated. Upon finding out about this last night (Saturday), I went today (Sunday) only to discover the set was no longer available. This is sad and disappointing as I would've been at the store on Friday to get one if proper notification was provided. What good is it to be a VIP if there are exclusives that aren't announced?

Additionally, I only knew of the Westfield Brandon store existing thanks to a Disney Springs LEGO store employee informing me. LEGO never sent me a notice. I went to the mall multiple times to see when it was opening. Store front listed "Fall 2018" / website never gave a date. it actually opened the day before Thanksgiving and then closed again for the holiday. Overall, this new store's opening has been ill conceived with no communication to potential customers.

Loyal but sad,
signature"

Thanks for posting this MeganL! I missed the email blast as well and would have totally missed this if not for this post!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Secret email blast that no one apparently received. I'm sure they intended this to be a severely limited thing so maybe that email blast was severely limited in radius too.

By in United States,

As to the 100 number, LEGO opened several locations in rapid succession last holiday season in response to the Toys R Us closures. The 100th location was opened as part of this flurry, with more quickly following. Therefore, while this is celebrating the 100th store to open, there are now 108 stores total.

By in Germany,

Perhaps they can offer a similar figure for the rest of the world, once it matches 100 stores in total one day. Or perhaps a special "Back to the future" figure, for when TLG intends to open the first store in the Netherlands, or New Zealand - in 25 years time that is ;-)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

there were no emails regarding this figure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I stumbled on this Saturday morning in the San Francisco East Bay when exchanging a duplicate set. Had no idea it was happening, and luckily just happened to be there when the store was opening.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Other than the back printing and printed brick, I have this minifigure.

I'm not too heart-broken for missing it. And I'm certainly not going to pay secondary-market prices.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I only heard of this because of just2good’s video, which is a shame, since I would’ve liked to get this with a Lego store purchase I’ve been planning for some 2019 sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Had I known, I'd have gone to a store. Oh well.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Hello lego lovers

I saw this from watching the UK sites. I called our Lego store in Canada , made three purchases, was able to get three 100 men and posters.
Two are already traded as I missed out on a couple of promotions last year, now my Harry Potter sets are complete till LEgo does the next wave of Harry Potter

Thank you ??

Gravatar
By in United States,

A nice exclusive. A shame they didn't advertise it more.

Gravatar
By in Venezuela,

Does anyone knows if the LEGO Store at Disney Springs was offering some kind of variant of the 100 Store Minifigure?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@OscarWRG:
Variant? Probably not. It sounds like these are all a single common design, not tailored for the specific market.
