Sets in pods are becoming somewhat ubiquitous nowadays. Another new one, 853922 Creative rings (name unconfirmed), has been found in LEGOLAND California by Brickset member sb3, priced at $8.99.

It's branded LEGOLAND on the back so will be exclusive to the parks and discovery centres.

I like pods, but only when they come in polybags...

The Clikits is strong with this one

WOW what a creative use of the Pod mould, its essentially a jewellery box. I wonder if this one will be popular though?

The mirror on the inside is a really neat touch, honestly.

This is a rather unconventional use of the pods. While I like it, I feel like there could have still been a minifigure or minidoll to sweeten the deal.

@Fakespacesquid ... I was just about to say, this is just next generation Clikits, right?

I was just there today! Didn’t see this because I was too busy grabbing a bunch of stuff that I can’t get in Connecticut. Oh, and I snagged an exclusive 20th anniversary California Legoland set too. It’s a cool set :-)

Seems like Huwbot has some insider info...

$9 for this? How much does that pod cost to make?

@GeordiePaul I am in legoland California and they don’t know anything about a 20th anniversary set for the park. Set number?
Are you thinking of 40306?

To all y'all making the Clikits comparisons, I think a closer comparison would be first generation Scala ( https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Scala/subtheme-Jewellery ). Unlike Clikits, those 1979–1980 sets relied primarily on standard LEGO System connections. Some of them even contained ring elements very much like the ones in this set! https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?q=Scala%20Ring

@David1985: Not sure, but from what I've seen most of the pods have been priced pretty similarly. Besides the size of the pods and how few sets include them, I imagine pre-assembling them adds to the cost. Many also have special lenticular graphics applied on the outside, although this one doesn't appear to and I can't imagine the mirror sticker impacts the cost in a major way.

All that said, I agree that it's hard to justify the price unless you're super interested in the pods themselves. This one seems to have a little more utility than average since it is effectively a functional jewelry box, but in general it frustrates me that whoever designed the pods didn't give them, say, a belt/bag clip so they could function as a travel-friendly way of carrying around a favorite minifigure. Or even some studs on the outside so that you could stack them into a larger display.

Either of those things would make the cost a little more justifiable in my opinion, but otherwise, a chunky plastic shell like this just strikes me as a fairly inefficient way to display a single minifigure and some accessories.

On the plus side, the pods do have decidedly more utility and customization potential than the clamshell-style boxes used for sets like #5004390-1, #5004393-1, #5004468-1, #5005156-1, #5005249-1, or #5005250-1. It seems like LEGO has been gradually replacing those type of promo sets with the pods, which I think is something of a positive move, since the pods at least offer an actual building experience.

How long do you think it will be before someone uses one of these things to propose to someone?

Clikets has been a running joke with the folks who consistently comment on the Random sets of the day. We had a while where we had a whole lotta Clikets sets; everyone said that Huwbot wasn’t random anymore and was Clikets obsessed. You kinda just had to be there—well, electronically.

Now Clikets has been brought into almost every conversation. And it’s funny to the ones who know the inside joke.

By in Singapore,

Remember the rumors of a new theme called iCreate? I assume this is from that theme, or at least its premise is the same since this one seems to be a LEGOLAND exclusive.

I unironically like what I'm seeing. Well, except for the pod, I was never a fan of pods after the X-Pod line.

I think this could be some of the leftovers from the cancelled theme for 2019, I think it was called Dots. I had even preordered sets for my shop then the line was pulled just before Christmas

There was a Friends set last year that was make your own rings. With this one the average small girl aged 6-12 will be happy for hours. Plus some small boys but their parents will hope they outgrow that phase.
(joking - girls and boys can play with whatever they like!)

@LegoSonicBoy what?? x-pods were fantastic!! click hinges in so many colors, and the pods were actually useful!

@paulrothwell

You can confirm DOTs was cancelled? Or was it pushed back?

By in United Kingdom,

Having re-read the email , these are clearly not dots. "the bracelets are made from new materials and...do not meet Lego standards", and " we have made the decision to withdraw the LEGO DOTS launch from our 2019 portfolio, globally."

@Lyichir I didn't even notice that, nice catch!

I think this would've been better if it came with more jewels and crystals. The flower and fruit parts don't feel enough like jewelry to me.

By in United States,

I'm surprised that they haven't grouped with Apple and made an iPod with a little apple inside!

By in Singapore,

@fakespacesquid: Ah shoot, my comment was extremely poorly worded! I meant that I loved X-Pods but didn't like any other pods that were released after that. I collected the first wave of X-Pods!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also, in addition to the iPod that I mentioned, they could have an Aye Pod, with pirates!

Maybe even an Eye Pod with a bunch of eyes?!? *shrug*

I always thought X-Pods were better, more parts, less money. However, the use of the new pod as a jewelry box is just plain genius.
