Ideas Showcase

I note that is has been nearly six months since my last Ideas Showcase article.

In that time, these ten budding LEGO Ideas designers have made contact with me to help promote their LEGO product Ideas (as they are known).

I am always interested in your thoughts about which projects do you like.

Read on as I add my comments of these worthy Ideas projects.

Gnome Cottage

By LegoHobbitFan7

This is LEGO Hobbit Fan7's first IDEAS submission: a gnome cottage built into a mushroom.

This model would appeal to both old and young builders.

It would make a good display piece, but also has a lot of potential for play, and the bright colours would appeal to children.

The Gnome Cottage has over 100 supporters with more than 400 days to reach the next milestone: 1,000 supporters.

Mechanical Beehive

By nasa105

Feel the wonder of the Honey Bee in the palm of your hand!

This beehive design is called a skep, which consists of coils of grass or straw to make the basket. The skep beehive has been around for more than 2,000 years and although it is not as common today, the skep is still an iconic symbol of beekeeping.

The project has slightly over 900 supporters and has just under 150 days to reach the next milestone: 1,000 supporters.

Watch the YouTube video to see it in action.

The Three Investigators -
Salvage Yard & HQ

By NLRCreations

Based on a highly-popular series of books Alfred Hitchcock and The Three Investigators, created by Robert Arthur Jr. in 1964, this set includes the teenage sleuths - Jupiter Jones, Peter Crenshaw and Bob Andrews.

This project has over 1,100 supporters and a big task ahead to reach the next milestone - 5,000 supporters - in just over 140 days.

LEGO Safari

By Ancient Brick

Africa is known for its nature and wildlife.

Ancient Brick is from South Africa and loves seeing these animals when going on safaris.

This inspired him to create this set. he believes it will make an excellent Ideas set as the continent of Africa has seldom been explored in LEGO history sets.

This project has over 200 supporters with slightly over 100 days to reach the next milestone: 1,000 supporters.

Miami Beach
Art Deco Skyline

By keoarchitect

The Art Deco Historic District in Miami Beach contains the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the United States.

Conceived in the spirit of other city skyline sets in the LEGO Architecture series, this Miami Beach Art Deco Skyline model is an abbreviated cruise down Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive, with sea and sand of South Beach to one side, and four notable landmark hotel buildings on the other.

This project has some solid, early support. It has 630 supporters and more than 300 days to reach the next milestone: 1,000 supporters.

Kinetic Balancing
Desk Toy

By Sandlot_Creations

If you want to add a little fun to your work-space or have an interesting model on the shelf, the Kinetic Balancing Desk Toy is a perfect choice!

It is built so that scenes are interchangeable. Sandlot Creations designed four scene ideas.

However, any kind of scene can be made for the set. The only limitation is your imagination!

This project has some solid, early support. It has over 500 supporters and more than 275 days to reach the next milestone: 1,000 supporters.

Watch this YouTube video below to see it in action.

Blue Origin New Glenn Rocket,
Launch Tower & Blue Moon Lander
- 1/110 Scale Set

By Matthew Nolan

Our modern space race has a dark horse, the sleek white New Glenn rocket from Blue Origin.

Designed to carry people and payloads to Earth orbit, the Moon and beyond, its first launch is expected in 2021.

Like its pioneering astronaut namesake, John Glenn, this two-stage vehicle is breaking new ground as we prepare to return to the Moon.

The lunar lander Blue Moon is included as payload, with its four mini rovers. Also included are a large rover, and satellite for deployment en route to the moon.

Matthew Nolan is a member of the 10K Club: he is the designer behind the SpaceX – The Ultimate Collection Ideas project.

This project is nearly at 3,000 supporters. It has more than 500 days to reach the 5,000 supporter milestone.

Amelia Earhart's
Lockheed Vega 5B

By TheMikeAwakens

Amelia Earhart is arguably the most famous female aviator in history.

In 1932, she became the first woman to fly nonstop solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

This is a 353 piece, 1/36 scale model of the plane she piloted during this famous flight - the Lockheed Vega 5B.

With 332 supporters, this project is a third of the way to the next milestone: 1,000 supporters. It has just under 300 days to reach that target.

A Story Carousel
- A Christmas Carol!

By NLRCreations

This is the second Ideas project for NLRCreations that I am Showcasing today.

After Christmas cards, trees and decorations, family and presents (giving of, of course!), too much turkey dinner and pudding, what can be more Christmassy than Charles Dickens' timeless tale of Christmas spirit (and Spirits!) - "A Christmas Carol“?

In this classic story the old, cold-hearted miser Ebenezer Scrooge is visited first by his old (but as we established above, emphatically dead...) business partner Jacob Marley and then by three further ghosts! And all of this on Christmas Eve!

The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet To Come help to show Scrooge the error of his ways.

This project is just over halfway to the next milestone: 1,000 supporters. It has 180 days to get 500 more supporters for that target.

Nancy Drew:
Curse of Blackmoor Manor

By JediPippin

Nancy Drew first appeared in 1930, and instantly became a classic.

At least 80 million copies of the books have been sold, and they have been translated into over 45 languages!

Nancy Drew has been featured in countless films and television shows, including a newly released CW series.

Not to mention a number of widely popular computer games. Beloved by many, Nancy Drew has now become a cultural icon, inspiring and empowering people across the globe.

This project has early, solid support. It is just over 250 supporters with more than a year to run to reach the next milestone: 1,000 supporters.

Interstellar Ranger

By onlymathier

The 2014 film Interstellar flung audiences far away from a dying Earth on a desperate expedition to find a new home among the stars.

With this detailed and playable minifigure-scale model of the Ranger spacecraft used by the NASA astronauts on their journey, you can relive their adventure (or come up with your own).

This project is close to 2,000 supporters and nearly a year and a half to reach the next milestone: 5,000 supporters.

I am always interested in your thoughts. Which projects do you like?

These eleven projects have been showcased as the designers made contact with me and asked for help promoting their work. Do you agree with my comments?

I can be reached by the contact feature on my Brickset profile if you would like your Ideas project featured at Brickset.

Feel free to leave feedback and links to your favourite Ideas.

loving the interstellar set!! would definitely buy. i love the little TARS

By in Brazil,

Interstellar Ranger is the most interesting one. In fact, the only one I would like to see made.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I read the Three Investigators books a lot as a kid, so it was a nice surprise to see a project based on the series. That and the Christmas story carousel are my favorites of this selection, though they all look interesting.

By in United States,

I like the salvage yard. It won't get made but I decided to support it anyway.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The Salvage Yard is nice but it's gigantic and probably won't get through.

I like the Nancy Drew set for the building, but give me the Hardy Boys or don't even bother.

The gnome house is very cute.

By in United States,

Let's be honest, the bee one is going to get it out of these options. TLG knows bees are socially popular now, so they're gonna catch on and do some kind of "for every set bought, we will ___ to help the bee population." TBF, I actually do like the bee one

By in United States,

I quite like the little Gnome Cottage. Oh what dreams
one might have living in fly agaric toadstool!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the Gnome Cottage, it's very earthy and aesthetically pleasing in a way reminaissant of the Bag End Hobbit set (79003).

In the end, I'd be surprised if any of these sets make it though.

By in United Kingdom,

Wow, the interstellar set looks great. Hope that'll make it and they don't alter the build too much.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the kinetic sculpture and the rocket, and was already supporting the Vega 5B. Great ideas as usual!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The bee hive project is wonderful. Supported it the moment I saw it when it was first posted. I hadn't seen the kinetic toy project before, so thanks for point it out. Definitely going to give it some support!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thank you for showcasing my idea! Unfortunately, it's been slow to gather support so I don't hold out much hope for it anymore. I'll at least build myself a copy :)

Some great projects here though. My favorites are the beehive, kinetic desk toy, and Interstellar Ranger.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think all of these are great, but the beehive stands above the rest for me. I'll probably be supporting the vast majority, but I've really REALLY got my fingers crossed for bees :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Christmas Carol and Nancy Drew are the ones of interest to me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really loving the Gnome Cottage, Mechanical Beehive, and Christmas Carol sets. One thing that really stood out to me from Interstellar was the robot so it's awesome to see it in the set!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Think my favourite might be the safari, tbh. I just think it ticks the right boxes of being a simple enough concept that kids can enjoy it while getting enough design in to satisfy adults

Gravatar
By in United States,

First of all I love when you do these, as it's hard to remember to sift through all of the Ideas over at the site. And anybody that is aware of Brickset and takes the time and energy to message you about it usually has a good project worth seeing, as shown in these examples.

Second of all, Bee Hive is totally dope.
And finally, I do really like Gnome Cottage as well, I'd be down to have a couple of those flanking Bag End.

By in Germany,

Lots of cool ideas, but I think I'll go with the Bee Hive and the Gnome Cottage. Love both of them even more than the rest of the offerings. That Miami Beach Art Deco skyline is also really pretty and I could see me buying an official version of that.

Thanks for bringing all these ideas to our attention.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well "Alfred Hitchcock and The Three Investigators" certainly brought memories flooding back. I was addicted to those books in the 1970s! Supported!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Even if it doesn't make it into 10k, we're totally going to see some Gnome Cottage dioramas in the next years.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They're all very well built and designed, though nothing that grabs my interest as a 'I have to buy'.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I'd dig a Three Investigators set. But for TLG it will be too large. Maybe just the iconic trailer would have more of a chance.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Give me safari; anything that grows the Lego animal kingdom will always be welcome. I'd like to see a giraffe, rhino and wildebeest as other Lego animals.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks for featuring my project (the gnome cottage)! I really appreciate it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the film Interstellar but the only that has some personal interest on me is that Africa Safari to be honest.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I wonder how I managed to not read a single "Die drei ???" (German translation of The Three Investigators) book nor listen to any of the audio cassettes as a kid / in my youth. Almost all of my friends had loads of these books and cassettes. I knew of it but never was as interested as I was in TKKG. :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

They are all nice but I like the Bee Hive and the Christmas Carol.

Gravatar
By in France,

Thanks for featuring our projects and for all of the comments about our ideas. We're happy that people like them! Great to also see the other ideas, love the Beehive and the Interstellar sets!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Gnome Cottage is also on LegoHobbitFan's Flickr page

By in United Kingdom,
