Posted by ,

76139 1989 Batmobile has been rumoured for many months. This set has now been revealed inadvertently in the Billund Airport LEGO store, where images were originally shared by Dylan Chow on Instagram.

Three new minifigures are provided, depicting Batman, the Joker and Vicki Vale from the 1989 Batman movie. A price of 1999 DKK or €279.58 is displayed at the airport, roughly equating to around £229.99 or $259.99 based upon the prices for similar products such as 75936 Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage.

You can view further images of the box on display after the break...

This looks awesome, £229.99 is a fair price if it is that much. Those figures look interesting, I wonder if there are any exclusive prints I hope there is at this price. And wow that build is detailed.

By in Serbia,

I don't normally buy large-scale cars but I will be getting this. There are a few problems but, overall, I love it. And figures are awesome.

By in United States,

This was THE movie when I was a kid. I'd love to get this. But I don't think I can justify that much. I bought the Tumbler and it just sits there on the shelf collecting dust. This would likely have the same end result. What's the purpose?

But it looks incredible. Hopefully the figures look different enough from the official versions already released since they were inspired by this era of Batman anyway. Although it would be nice to have the Nicholson Joker to go with the Ledger one.

By in France,

Wow. Probably the best Batmobile design ever for me, as a huge fan of T. Burton's universe and movies atmosphere. So seeing it released at this scale is a great new. But as for many big sets now, once again I won't be able to get it, far too expensive for me and my dedicated Lego budget. But I will be glad to watch Jang's review and see it in detail if he chooses to do it. I'm sure it is filled with delightful details and building techniques and part uses. So I was dreaming in a corner of my mind to eventually one day put my hands on the Tumbler, now this corner will be filled with the hope of getting 76139!

By in United States,

Epic!
But it will be a bit annoying if the info plaque can't stand up.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Is that a new windscreen piece?!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Looks pretty slick!

Any clue on the piece count? Price appears a bit hard to swallow for what you get at first glance.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^Piece count is 3,306 pieces.

Gravatar
By in United States,

so, what's up with all of the massively expensive sets recently? isn'tTLG going to let our wallets recover?

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

^It is about selling lifestyle products to one-time buying adults, not toys. These sets are for the desktop, not for playing with.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anyone who was willing to dig through the trash pile of leaks probably should have seen the figures for this... Batman is going to have a new molded headpiece in this set to replicate the Michael Keaton look... down to not being able to move his neck!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is more like it. You can keep your wooden doorstop

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Much better than the Tumbler

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Really awesome set. The price seems good to me, based on the size of it and the piece count.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, and might as well tick I want now. £230 is a lot of money but it looks great, I have most of the batmobiles, passed the massive Tumbler by, so here's hoping for a Black Friday or similar deal and £1xx.xx at some point.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was always a little sad at having missed out on the Tumbler, and regularly nearly bought one.

Until now.

Thank you, LEGO; this is beautiful. Time for me to MOC a tiny version for the Penguin to drive!

By in United States,

A year ago, I would have said nothing could top David Slater's Keatonmobile, but LEGO has done it (which of course is understandable since it's a much larger scale). Although Slater's still has this version beat in the area of being able to convert into the Batmissile.

By in Canada,

I absolutely LOVE this set. Can’t wait for the official images! The figures are amazing and this build honestly looks like one of the best LEGO builds I’ve ever seen.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love that it's sitting on a shelf above the VW Camper Van, which is somehow STILL going. I started at an LBR store May '14 and the Camper was supposedly on its way out so it was the first set I bought with my employee discount. Not only is it still here, but it's outlived the Caterham, Tumbler, F40, Helicarrier, and any number of other big sets that were released after it. To be fair, other than the Mustang it's still my favorite of the big Creator vehicles. Perhaps because it was the first one I got? Nostalgia is a powerful thing, to be sure, but it's a terrific set in its own right and I'm curious how this new Batmobile stacks up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why do these big sets keep being inadvertently leaked at stores lol you'd expect higher security for these things I'd think

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh crap. I was hoping for my wallet's sake I was going to see this and think "meh". Nope....looks great.

IIRC Batman was the first 12 rated movie in the UK. I remember going to see this by myself; I was only 10 at the time and my parents wouldn't take me. I was so nervous as I put my cash down at the ticket desk fully expecting them to kick me out for being underage. Barely even look up as they passed me the ticket. Greatest thing my 10-year old self had ever seen!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My wallet is gonna be empty as heck but now this is my new primary objective.
Now i'm gonna go watch the film

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’ve been drooling over the leaked pics for weeks now and I’ve not been this impatient for an official reveal in a loooooong time! This is a minute one buy for me.

I was a massive DC comics collector when this film came out and went to the midnight screening in Preston when it was released....... "Did you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"

Just need to find out what the hell is going on with 40433 now...........

Gravatar
By in United States,

Need to see it side by side with the Tumbler to give judgement.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

While this is a really nice looking set with an awesome Batman and Joker fig, I really don't think that it looks like a £230 set. To me it looks like theres less to it then the 76105 Hulkbuster, and that was an rrp of £120.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If you had to chose one set from that shelf what would it be?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This is still my favorite Batman Movie. The sets, the Gothic buildings, the enormity of Gotham (that filled the entire Pinewood Studios Backlot) and above all Jack Nicholson's Joker.
Love this Batmobile. I don't mind expensive sets when they are well done and worth it. And after saving 120 Euro for not buying the wooden minifigs, this is easier to swallow right from the start.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh man, I want this!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Greatness, I liked that Batman film, but I can't buy it. Is this the first Vicky Vale figure?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Oh my gosh, I’ll get this as soon as I can. The price is a limitless steep, but my love of the original film would mean I will get it eventually.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is the equivalent of a UCS set great construction and detail based on the best batmobile ever made, Keaton himself will probably buy this..
Next I want to see the penguins duck from batman Returns or the jokers Magenta van..

Gravatar
By in Germany,

If Lego makes a great set, there is actually quite a bit of positivity here. ;-) And I'm not even a Batman fan, nor will I buy this set.

The circumstances of this "reveal" are, however, quite puzzling again.

@TheInnovator
If any, the one in the middle. ;-)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This was my favourite ever Batmobile, but it's too big (I have no space to display this gigantic collector's sets), and too expensive for me. The minifig-scale version of this Batmobile (that came out this year) is good enough for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, now we know where he gets those wonderful toys.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definite pass for me personally, but that looks amazing. Score for the Batman fans!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m more than impressed. This is my favorite Batmobile, and this looks absolutely stunning. I will most definitely be picking this one up.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

When is the release date for this awesome model ?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@zordboy, I feel like the bat mobile that came with the Jokerland set is a bit of a better representation than the one that just came out this year. Though each model has kind of borrowed and swapped from different iterations, so we’ve never gotten a truly Minifigure scale version.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is stunning. I almost forgot that before "Batman Begins" came out, this Batmobile defined Batman for me, and I even had diecast matchbox versions of the 1989 film vehicle in my pre-Lego days. This looks like it will complement the Tumbler nicely and stand out in its own right. I hope I can grab one Stateside before Christmas!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Bwahaha, I love it when a set gets leaked by one of Lego's own stores! Sweet payback for those times they've gone after customers and reviewers who bought sets that made it to retailer shelves early.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Rob42, while it’s always amusing when this happens, not sure what the payback really is.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I think I need to buy this

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This will be the first big LEGO set I'll be buying since the release of the Unimog. I think it looks spectacular and it'll be a perfect Christmas present.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks fantastic, even far better than the leaked images suggested IMO.

As for a single LEGO retail location putting an unannounced, officially unreleased product out for general sale, slow clap + SMH.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’ve been waiting for this set for years. This is a day 1 purchase for me. I don’t care how much it is

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Best batmobile ever!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was THE Batmobile that reignited a lot of love for the car...this model is fantastic. I’ll buy it when I can, no waiting. I hope it doesn’t sell out. This may be incredibly popular.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Can't wait for this one. Love the new cowl. This Batman minifig. Looks amazing

Gravatar
By in United States,

When will this be released in the USA?

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I got to get me one of these...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Whenever we traveled to see my family on the old farmplace, there was a large poster of this vehicle in my Uncle's childhood room. It was one of the most futuristic things I had ever seen at the time and was certainly out of place in the old creaky farmhouse!

Will I buy the set? I might....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I want that!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m looking forward to the GWP Batmobile limited edition, that looks likes it’s coming with this.. Not a general Batman collector, but these are a must for me.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Any ideas if this was a temporary error or if it would be worth to drop by there when we are somewhat close by next week anyway?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@silentguy - The airport LEGO store is located in the departure lounge so you would need to be flying from Billund airport to visit. Regardless, I imagine they will have been removed from sale by now.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This is lose-my-mind flipping amazing!!! Insta-Auto-buy. This is thee Batmobile/Batman!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seems like Lego are pretending the accident never happened rather than just officially announcing it seeing as the Bat is out of the bag.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This and the Animated Series Batmobile are so much more definitive than the Tumbler. This thing is awesome. I won't get it because of the pricetag but I'd love to ogle it at the store.

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

I'm really glad to see Burton's Batmobile, but I will skip this big one. I'll wait for minifig scale of it with driver and co-driver space so that I can have it with minifig scale Tumbler (7888) and Batwing (7782). I get it it will be not for next 2 years with this year two Batmobiles out.
Those minifigs are must have!
EDIT: That logo on Batman is too low, it looks weird.
