City Advent Calendar - Day 13
Posted by Huw,We are now over half way through the calendar and we've had a veritable smorgasbord of gifts so far.
It's the 13th today. Will it be unlucky for some?
It won't be unlucky for anyone opening today's City calendar window because we have a delightful granny and a book who we can seat on yesterday's rocking chair.
She's wearing what BrickLink calls a Fair Isle sweater, which is a torso introduced last year in 70657 NINJAGO City Docks and making only its third appearance in this set.
However, it's not a sweater at all, but a cardigan, because it fastens at the front, whereas a sweater is put on over one's head, something old people struggle to do!

Sweet. That hair piece also looks quite uncommon.
I immediately put her in the rocking chair, because it really does look great.

A cardigan is a specific type of sweater...the kind that opens in the front all the way and clasps or zips. We in the US use sweater as a catch all for anything fuzzy, and shirt-like that keeps you warm. In Europe and the UK they are more specific--sweater, cardigan, jumper, pull-over.
And she comes w/a book to boot! I collect LEGO books, although my 4 y/o son might make a fuss when I attempt to secretly stash it away (to place in the Bookstore Modular later and to keep it from being a lost w/several others - we miss you Wonder Woman, Batman, Owen Grady, and scientist's left hand).
Although over half of the calendar has already flown past and while I'm safe to say this calendar has been quite underwhelming, I can also safely say that none of the minifigs have disappointed me and are the best features of the calendar. This in particular is pure awesomness. Unique pieces and amazing book piece. 5/5
As an Englishman living in the States I can best describe a cardigan as the thing that Mister Rogers wears in every episode. It’s usually an old people thing :-)
A cardigan is also nice because you can undo it at the front when it's a bit warmer! Yeah that's a Fair Isle, it's from Shetland.
I agree that this calendar is underwhelming. The City ones used to be my favorite when they were giving us the cute little food stands to build.
A great offering today with the cool minifigure AND book!
