City Advent Calendar - Day 17

Posted by ,

Remember granny from day 13 and her tealight with the ferocious flame?

I think something awful has happened!

Here's her husband, attired in a Fair Isle sweater (or jumper, if you prefer) brandishing a fire extinguisher. Either her book got too close to the flame or the pizza ejection system in yesterday's oven failed causing it to burst into flames!

The torso started life in 21310 Old Fishing Store and was also present in last year's City Advent calendar.

By in Sweden,

Might be my third favourite minifigure. The hair and face pieces are incredibly unique. ALthough ironically, the Day 17 character from the calendar last year had teh exact same torso. How coincidential. I don't think it fits very well though but otherwise the figure is a solid 4/5

I kind of love that he comes with a fire extinguisher. There are so many potential disasters he could be racing (on his orange skimobile) to deal with.

My son thought that Granny with the big flaming candle was Mrs. Claus. He could likely point out that this is Mr. C. out of uniform getting ready for the big day.

Did Lego put ANY thought into the distribution of Minifigs in these things? Good luck if you have 2 brothers alternating days on the Advent calendars this year! I’m stunned by the thoughtlessness: 5 of the 6 minifigs in the City calendar this year have been on odd days.

Hah, does that mean the enormous flame from a couple of days ago we all joked about was actually deliberate? Or did they throw in a fire extinguisher after realising what an oversized candle they’d made?

I need to go about assembling Old Fishing Store.

@CCC: "Probably not. What if there is a family of three sharing them? To make sure the distribution is fair for sharing between 2 and 3 people (and anything else) is probably not a concern."

This is my 6th or so year of doing the calendars. They've always been relatively-equally distributed in the past. They should consider 2 and 3 child households. It's really not that hard.

Surely minifigures in odd days balances out against the second child who has realised snagging door 24 is the motherload?

Uh oh! Better hope one of the next boxes is a mini fire truck!

They did. There are also Star Wars and Harry Potter calendars. My kids are perfectly happy with each of them having a different calendar. There have been no gripes about one vs. another; to the contrary, they each get excited about what all three calendars offer each day.

I wouldn't trade 6 Minifigs for 2, even if one is Santa. Minifigs have been fantastic in this year's City calendar. Santa Minifigs are a dime a dozen.

@OhioBricker you could try a different pattern that would include both odd and even days for when you and your brother open the calendar windows, for example one of you start on day 1, then the other on day 2 and day 3, then the other on days 3 and 4, etc ending with day 24 for whoever went first.
