City Advent Calendar - Day 19

Posted by ,

We've had a fair bit of furniture in the calendar so far and there's more today, but it's an item we've not seen in an Advent calendar before.

Surprisingly, this is the first Grandfather clock to appear in an Advent calendar. The clock face tile was first used in 71040 Disney Castle, almost ready to strike midnight, signalling that it's time for Cinderella to go home.

The top of it is nicely detailed, but it's let down by the plainness of the cabinet below.

The cabinet is a bit plain, and I would've liked a better base, but there aren't enough Lego grandfather clocks, and that clockface tile is *sublime*.

I wouldn't call this a grandfather clock at all, because the base is nothing like a real grandfather clock. Just look at the one in the Green Grocer to see how those are detailed.
I would say it is one of those faux antique style clocks you can find for example in shopping malls, which would also fit in with a Christmas theme, as loads of people see those clocks during this time of year. Those often tend to have quite plain bases too.

Shame it’s so plain but I don’t see how you could change much with only an advent window’s worth of parts

Nice model, have you noticed that BL updated their terms of service?

Nice build, could it be improved, yes, but for an advent calendar build it's still very good.

2018 City had a candy cane christmas clock so seeing a regular clock now is okay.

It's kinda... flat, no?

3/5. Good design but the base could've been way better

All it needs is a box base, really.

Cool! I am one to say that I haven't seen that clock piece before.
