Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 21

Posted by ,

An elegant plinth emerged yesterday, although the associated statue was mysteriously missing and I imagine that will appear next. Hopefully it will be worth waiting for!

Find out after the break...

An impressive statue of the Hogwarts Architect stands within the Entrance Hall and this minifigure is effectively designed to match its onscreen counterpart. The golden colour scheme is perfect and this beard element works nicely in my opinion. The figure features furled plans for the school in one hand while the other holds an adorable model of the Great Hall and the Marble Staircase Tower.

Furthermore, this statue looks even more appealing when attached to the plinth from yesterday. I love the stark contrast between the stone base and this golden statue, alongside the four house crests that provide lovely colour. They are not present on the original statue and the sculpted animals which should appear around its feet are excluded, although I think that was an appropriate decision because they would have been extremely difficult to construct at this scale.

Overall - 5.0 - While the statue and plinth are not independently appealing, they look wonderful when connected and I will be adding this model to 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall.

The Hogwarts architect is surrounded by a badger, eagle, lion, and I'm gonna guess the fourth one is a snake, but I can't find a photo to be sure.

I wonder how reasonable it would have been to include, say, a pearl gold mouse and bird just to get two of the four?

Thanks for clearing that up for me. “This is really cool...who is it?!?”

I love with this calendar that they have really thought about including useful additions and items that will compliment other sets. Just amazing.

But Captain Rex - we need your help - we can't for the life of us get the statue to hold the Great Hall model as you have it - what are we doing wrong?! I can't tell from the photos how you have got him holding it!

Just browsing the animals we've gotten over the years: animals that fit on a 1x1 stud which might fit on here AND have been released in gold:

- A chicken
- A Baby Dinosaur (early 2000s model)
- A frog
- A fish with its tail up
- A snake (98136)
- A baby dragon
- A scarab beetle
- A scorpion

So, those are a couple of possibilities if you want to make your architect more screen-accurate. It's not perfect, but the snake and chicken might look OK.

You just clip his hand onto the horizontal gold bar at the bottom of the great hall model. Same way the black clip is attached. Rotate hand as necessary for posing.

Thanks, when I first tried that I just couldn't get the same "pose" as the photos here show. I've managed to sort it so it's close to the second full shot of the statue but, and perhaps it's a trick of the perspective/angle in the photo, I can't quite get it the same exactly. Or, perhaps I'm just rubbish! ;-)

Yeah I think it's just the angle. You're welcome!

Love every opportunity to get a full monofig in an official set.

In the battle of the Licenced Advent Calendars, this is a clear win today - despite the good model in the Star Wars one today

If so, that would mean the worst case scenario for HP is that the contest ends in a tie. I do agree that the golden minifig seems to be more visually appealing and is far more useful than the cloud car in SW. Not that the cloud car is bad, I just think this one is better.

As Matt_Z_ informed us yesterday that he won't be able to continue the Battle of Licensed Calendars - which I feel bad about - I try to summarize the standings only:

HP - 12
SW- 9

This one escaped me too. did not know who it should represent. But looks nice on the stand that came yesterday. I had to read the review so solve the mystery.

@Yooha, any reason why Matt_z_ cannot continue the Battle? I tune in just to read that.

He just stated 'unforseen circumstances' on one of the previous articles.

Personally, I think giving this a 5 rating it giving it too much. Firstly, its just a plan minifigure with no detailing. If you didn't know who/what it was meant to represent you'd be clueless as its not instantly recognisable, and its also incomplete without yesterdays plinth, making it only a part build. Given you've marked it as a joint built, you've awarded it too many points as its the plinth that makes it.

In other words, its a solid win for the SW calender today.

I sincerely hope whatever happened to Matt_Z or his family will be resolved in a positive way. I wish him nothing but the best. Nobody should have bad things happen to him, especially at this time of the year.

A gold monochrome minifigure?! Pretty sweet. Those parts aren't easy to come by. The cheapest one I see listed on eBay is $11 + shipping.

I'm willing to do score and a description too if you like.

Yeah. Sure hope nothing bad has happened to him.
Just as the scores were getting tight and tense, too.
