Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 3
Posted by CapnRex101,Vehicles belonging to the brutal First Order have launched the 2019 Star Wars Advent Calendar so another such item seems probable today. I think our first minifigure would be welcome.
Read on and find out after the break...
First Order Stormtroopers have appeared in many previous sets but further additions to the army are always appreciated. This minifigure wears an attractive helmet with the narrow grille that appeared in 75166 First Order Transport Speeder Battle Pack and the subsequent Star Wars: The Last Jedi range. The design matches the movies and I like the light bluish grey filtration nozzle on the chin.

Moreover, the chest armour includes marvellous detail, closely resembling the onscreen characters. I love the printing on the legs and removing the helmet reveals another Clone Trooper head, which has now been available for more than seven years! The minifigure is equipped with a standard blaster rifle, as usual.

Overall - 4.0 - Minifigures for army building are welcome and this Stormtrooper looks superb, although something less common might have been preferable.

Ah, an Angry Clone Ducktrooper! How.... disappointing.
I'll take a clone or OT stormtrooper over these guys any day of the week - and especially in my 30 Euro advent calendar. Blaser is a nice plus today though.
The best thing about today is that he comes with his weapon. No more weapon racks!!!! Or if there are, at least they'll be bonus weapons.
Is the theme entirely from the sequels?
We deserve a better face print than this.
This was only my 2nd First Order Stormtrooper so he was a welcome edition for me. Also it's great we aren't getting stud shooters in this advent calendar
Always good to add to a collection but so common now. But come on, it's a minifig nonetheless. The winner is Friends calendar today IMO with those two cute and clever designed penguins (?) toys, which are new and therefore represent a good surprise, which are always welcome after years of Advent minibuilds.
@Brick_t_ I don't think you can consider Friends a winner when it's hard to tell what the builds are even supposed to be.
And SW steals one back! Not because this is great, but because the HP entry for Day 3 is simply a joke, IMO. Score now shifts:
HP- 2
SW- 1
To be continued...
Boo, I didn't need this. Same guy as in last year's calendar, and the year before that, and innumerable other sets.
Also, the white hands always push these guys into boting territory, there's too much continuous white
Personally, I think you can never have enough Storm Troopers, so getting more of them is always a plus.
Golem25 from that point you're right, but I can't help but like them, for me it is a good idea and built. I have no doubt about what this SW minifig is, but find it less surprising, less enjoyable - even as a SW collectioner. And surprise, novelty is what I mainly wait from an Advent Calendar. As a Lego fan, my favourite today is this "difficult to clearly identify and name but so cute" Friends mini built. But it is just my humble opinion and perception of course.
I for one welcome another addition to my First Order army. Even though he came with a weapon I am sure the dreaded weapons rack is coming!!
Everyone with colds must have been like
Cough Cough a fine edition to my collection
The pointed and narrow grille actually didn’t actually appear until 75225- Elite Praetorian guard battle pack (not including the stormtrooper executioner figures that also had the narrow grille the previous year), not 75166 transport speeder battle pack. This is only the fourth time this particular version of the stormtrooper has been available. So I, for one, am very happy for this addition.
4.0? I mean sure, it's a good looking minifig, but is this some ultra rare version of a standard FO Stormtrooper? Doesn't look like it to my eye. It would have been more fitting if he had some sort of new gear printed on (maybe CMF quality and add some printing to the arms and sides of the legs?) or even just some sort of constructable backpack to make it more worth a 4.0 rating.
@TimmyConstantine - No, the helmet with the narrower mouth grille was introduced with later production runs of 75166-1 First Order Transport Speeder Battle Pack.
@MCLegoboy - Minifigures for army building are always desirable and expecting exclusive minifigures every day in the Star Wars Advent Calendar is unrealistic, hence my rating. More new minifigures in these calendars would be fantastic though, of course!
@CapnRex101 After having a look around, I was actually about to rescind my statement. Turns out there weren't as many regular First Order Troops in sets as I thought. They're actually kind of rare because everyone is either a snowtrooper/flametrooper style design or has a print variant to denote a certain class like the executioners or a form of pilot, and they all come in some relatively larger sets. So yeah, this is actually a neat figure to get if you missed out on some of the few sets they actually come in.
As a side note, Day 3 of the 2011 Lego Star Wars advent calendar revealed a Neimoidian Mechno-chair, used by the likes of Nute Gunray.
A rather more obscure entry than an angry clone-faced FO stormtrooper!
double_bubble yes I perfectly remember it because when I found it I could absolutely not see what it was all about! It's months after that I eventually found that Gunray shall sit on it... And I pretend being a fan. Shame on me.
@CapnRex101 do you write the "I predict a minifigure today" bit before or after you open the calendar? ;)
I'm delighted to see a frowntrooper. They look much better to me than the TFA design.
@CapnRex101 I never actually knew that, wish I got that version instead now haha, thank you for the correction. I’ll have to look out and purchase an updated one.
@MisterBrickster - Yes, I open the Advent Calendar doors every morning and write the introduction the night before. This particular 'prediction' was reasonably safe though as almost every Star Wars Advent Calendar has included at least one minifigure during the opening three days.
