Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 5

Posted by ,

Many previous Star Wars Advent Calendars have focused upon particular factions, planets or eras across several days. I am accordingly wondering whether the focus will change on day five.

Read on and find out after the break...

The focus has certainly shifted, leaving the First Order behind and replacing them with the Resistance. Poe Dameron's distinctive T-70 X-wing Starfighter, known as Black One, has appeared at many scales but this model is particularly tiny and employs construction techniques from the T-65 X-wing which was available in 7958 Star Wars Advent Calendar. The resultant craft seems reasonably accurate but some potential for improvement remains.

For instance, the S-foils are ideally designed to represent the T-65 X-wing where four separate nacelles look perfect. They are inappropriate here though and the shaping of the nose looks awkward. However, this black and orange colour scheme is impressive and I love the white 1x1 round plate that represents BB-8. Moreover, the model feels surprisingly robust and is accordingly excellent for play.

Overall - 4.0 - Despite relying heavily upon its colour scheme to distinguish this T-70 X-wing Starfighter from its Rebel predecessor, I am pleased with this model.

Maybe it's the orange and black combo, but I love it (and you instantly know what it's representing).

Battle of the Licensed Themes continues. Door 5 yields two dramatically different results across the HP and SW calendars. Here, we have a nicely designed x-wing miniature, evoking the colors from its parent set. Well done.

On the flip side, HP is waving the proverbial white flag, disguised in the colors red and gold. A pitiful offering that I shadn't waste more characters discussing. Score is now:

HP- 3
SW- 2

To be continued...

By in Germany,

It's a neat enough model, but as mentioned it has been used in a calendar before, and in several polybags and promotional models since (as a T-65 and T-70).

Some of the new 1x2 rounded plates on the engines could've helped set this one apart.

^^ Yeah, this design has been seen several times before. Still looks good though.

(But I still don't know why TLG can't do legitimate scissor foils in the full-scale X-Wings. I modified mine [Resistance X-Wing] to have actual scissor foils as shown in the movies in like 5 minutes. It's really not that hard.)

Sublime build I must say. The best in the calendar thus far.

My calendar had the wrong item behind this door. Weird - I took the tray out and some of the items are scrambled, but it's not universally in the wrong way round as I've read can sometimes happen.
