Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 8
Posted by CapnRex101,Four gifts associated with the First Order arrived during the opening few days and three different representatives of the Resistance have emerged since then.
Another such item therefore seems likely today...
Miniature locations have appeared in several Star Wars Advent Calendars, depicting the Ewok Village, Jabba's Palace and Cloud City. This tiny depiction of Ahch-To now joins that collection and is recognisable, comprising sand green and dark bluish grey pieces which stand out against the blue 4x4 curved plate representing the ocean.
I love the light bluish grey 1x1 round plate that depicts the ancient structures found on Ahch-To and the surrounding rocks look reasonable too, although their design is very simple. In addition, the sand green 1x1 tile situated near the summit is somewhat appealing because that has only appeared in seven past sets.
Overall - 3.0 - This model of the Ahch-To island includes some pleasing details but does not exhibit the innovative building techniques which often constitute these tiny locations.

It... just kinda looks like a rock, honestly. I feel like they either should have done more to make it recognizable, or just have gone with something that stands out more.
I like it, but I think it would have been better placed after something else Ach-to related, to push the link a bit.
"After something else Ahch-To related" could be the Porg that Chewie was chewing on yesterday.
If I hadn’t read the review, I would have just thought it was a rock. It doesn’t really standout, unfortunately.
This is the Charlie Brown equivalent of a gift. When everyone else gets something good, “I got a rock”
Came here to find out what I just built.
I put mine on some blue plates and added the TFA Millennium Falcon zooming towards it. That helps.
This is probably fine if you want to add it to a 16x16 blue plate and add some smaller island chains.
I was equally baffled as to what this was which is saying something given that the actual location is in the county where I live!! A big stretch of one's imagination is required methinks. Thanks as always to Brickset for enlightening me.
cute, and guessed it as soon as i saw it - but might not have, if we didn't have chewie & porg drumstick yesterday
Conclusions:
Overall - 1.0 - Totally nonsense.
Is this some kind of joke?
Absolute garbage, what were they thinking? Making the whole calendar Sequel-themed was such a bad idea. At least the previous microscale location gifts of past years were recognizable renditions of iconic locales.
0.5 and even that's pushing it
This just sux

There are original trilogy and prequel trilogy items in this calendar
Today I did not even open the bag, will do it later to put all the parts with my spare ones. Sorry but no interest at all for me in such a micro rendition of an island, even if it's Luke's.
One word came to mind when opening this... "Lame".
Haha, wow. That's... That's pathetic xD.
Saying "Ahch-To now joins that collection and is recognisable" is either wanting to get that bricklink type money or brickset is already getting some of it. This set is 1.0 at best.
No one knows what this is. It is crap. There have been other advent days throughout the years that I have had to visit brickset to understand what it was that I was building. But with those I go, oh yeah, I see that now. This is not one of those. It is not recognizable at all, it is nothing.
Major fail from both Lego and Brickset.
@Gunstar1 - I thought it was recognisable, hence making that comment in the article!
Where is @Mat_Z_ with his Harry Potter v Star Wars vote? It’s the second best part of the reviews, tbh.
Why so much hate? This Ahch-To island is not much better than a rock, and the model is accurate, deserves the neutral mark of 3.0. If there's someone to blame, that'd be Disney for making Ahch-To weird, not LEGO.
The problem here I think isn't that it's not recognizable though. It is, even if I didn't immediately spot it when I opened the page. Having it get pointed out is enough for me to go "Ah yes, I see it now...bit boring though."
No the problem is in the source material.
The problem is that Ach-To mostly lacks iconicness. It's just an island with typical island colors and as such the build looks like a rock. The most recognizable parts are the fauna.
It's not cloud city with distinctive shapes, nor is it Endors treehouse which looks like a tree house nor is it the lava battle from ROTS.
The one thing they should've done that would've saved this set is probably add some representation of the Jedi tree Yoda burnt down. Maybe added a twig on top.
Still something like this makes me pretty happy I didn't buy the kalender.
