Stranger things upside down set.
Pobbably the best new theme of the year.
The Overwatch wrecking ball set. Affordable set with a great build and plenty of play features. I don't play Overwatch and neither does my son but I enjoyed building it and he played for hours with it.
I would like to suggest https://brickset.com/sets/31088-1/Deep-Sea-Creatures
The Batmobile 1989... And I mean the large one !
Ideas tree house and shower guy
set: Of course Benny's space squad
minifigure: Jungle Explorer / Johnny Thunder (CMF S19)
Not sure about the fig, however the set must be the Ideas Tree House, made by Cesar Soares, epic
I can only base my opinion on sets I own and therefore have experienced the build.
Favorite minifig: great year for collectable minifigures, with the exceptional Disney CMS, my favorite out of this year has to be Jafar, I feel like TLG captured him perfectly in LEGO form.
Favorite set: a toss up between 20th anniversary Slave 1 and the Avengers Ultimate Quinjet. But I think for playability the Quinjet trumps and has to be my choice here
Favourite set has to be emmets dream house and my favourite fig is Jack from hidden side
If it is allowed to vote for more than one: 10265 Ford Mustang, 10266 Apollo Lunar Lander, 21045 Trafalgar Square, 31088 Deep Sea Creatures and 70841 Benny's Space Squad

Set - 76139 - 1989 Batmobile
Minifig - Sh607 - 1989 Batman
Definitely the Stranger Things Upside Down for best set. The unique aesthetics and minifigures and amazing. Will vote Will Byers for best minifigure - they got the likeness spot on. Dustin as a close second - he just looks a bit uncanny to me.
Batmobile 1989 and Batman minifigure
My favorite set of the year was probably Emmet's dream house
And my favorite minifig of the year was probably apocalypseburg Abraham Lincoln
Wrecked Shrimp Boat; 211906-1: Batman
Ninjago monastery of spinjitzu
Stranger Things Upside Down was a truly unique set. Really cannot think of a favorite minifigure. Maybe Jack from Disney series 2.
Best Set: The new Imperial Star Destroyer
Best Minifig: The new Batman
75810 Stranger Things Upside Down and 76139 1989 Batmobile!
Best set: Benny’s Space Squad ( https://brickset.com/sets/70841-1/Benny-s-Space-Squad ). An inexpensive set bursting with nostalgia for AFOLs and playability for kids.
Best minifigure: Monkey King from CMF Series 19 ( https://brickset.com/sets/71025-4/Monkey-King ).
Minifigure special mention: Fright Knight from CMF Series 19 ( https://brickset.com/sets/71025-3/Fright-Knight ). I had to say that as I believe it was inspired by one of my designs :~P
Best set – 75243 20th Anniversary Edition Slave I
Best minifig – SW1020 Zuckuss
Best set: NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander; honorable mentions for Ideas Tree House, 1989 Batmobile and Imperial Star Destroyer.
Best minifigure: Dennis Nedry from Jurassic Park T-rex Rampage, partly because no one else will nominate him, but also because I think it perfectly captures Wayne Knight's appearance in the film. I haven't got the set yet, though, because I'm still waiting for a discount. Honorable mentions for 1989 Batman, 1989 Joker, Scrooge McDuck.
NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander
Benny
Treehouse
Blacktron bounty hunter
76139: 1989 Batmobile and minifigure: TLM163 Dorothy Gale
Best set: 70841 Benny's Space Squad
Best Minifigure: CMF19's Shower Guy
Best set: 75243-1: Slave I – 20th Anniversary Edition
Figure selection and overall build are exceptionel.
Best mini figure: 71024-16: Jack Skellington
Unexpected theme, special pieces and intricate prints.
10266 Apollo Lunar Lander
21320 Dinosaur Fossils
Minifig, dunno. All the same to me.
Tree house
Fright Knight
Best set: 75252 , 76139 , 70840

Has to be 10265 Ford Mustang for me.
10265 Ford Mustang
Set: 10266 NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander
Minifig: 71025 Galactic Bounty Hunter
I have to agree, the best minifig this year was the Monkey King, I thought he was absolutely brilliant.
There were some pretty good sets, particularly at the back end of the year. I loved Lloyd's Titan Mech, but the Hidden Side Ghost Train Express, and the Limited Edition minifig-scale 89 Batmobile, were all pretty amazing.
I nominate 31097 Townhouse and Toy Shop Cafe
75938 T.Rex vs Dino-Mech Battle. A rather fun looking set with a highly creative idea. Also four baby raptors in one set. Can't go wrong.
I think Gingerbread Woman is the best Minifigure I got this year so far. Great simple print design with an excellent re-use of parts and just plain fun all around.
So many awesome ones this year!
I am going to say the Stranger Things set for how brilliant and creative the build was, being able to have upside down LEGO is a brilliant idea.
For minifig I would have to say the Demogorgon for it being a scary minifig and it also has great recolour faun legs and new moulded head piece. But the gingerbread family from this years Winter Village set are absolutely amazing too.
Top 5 sets:
76139 - 1989 Batmobile
70840 - Welcome to Apocalypseburg!
21318 - Tree House
75810 - The Upside Down
10265 - Ford Mustang
Top 5 minifigures:
Akita (from 70678)
Batman (from 76139)
Monkey King (from 71025)
Dorothy Gale (from 71023)
Jack Skellington (from 71024)
Best set - 21320: Dinosaur Fossils
Best Minifigure - Jim Hopper (75810: Stranger Things)
Set : Shrimp Shack Attack from Hidden Side.
It sums up what I expect from a LEGO set : original content, nicely detailed figures, realistic front, furnished interior, can be either played with or exposed, perfect ! And the AR integration is a nice bonus and works really well !
Figure : the new Scout Trooper from Star Wars.
Such an incredible work on this one, especially with the new mold for the helmet. I hope to see it used soon in a better set than the small one it went with...
Best set I'd say is 70419 The Wrecked Shrimp Boat. Very well designed and great figure selection at a very reasonable price. Though Hidden Side is something of a failure of a theme overall for me with the app.
Best Minifigure... Battle-ready Batman from 70836.
For sets, I'd go with either the Tree House or the Dinosaur Fossils, both from the Idea line. They have amazing shelf presence, both of them.
For minifigs, I'd go with either Tracer or Widowmaker, both from the Overwatch line. They're the most accurate of the Overwatch minifigs, and they have quite unique components.
Best set: Benny's Space Squad
Best Minifig: Scrooge McDuck
Set: Lloyd's Titan Mech 70676
Fig: I would say probably Lenny (pink classic space fig)
My Top Picks:
Set that I don't own: 75244 Tantive IV
Set that I own: 75243 Slave One
Minifigure that I don't own: SW1036 Princess Leia
Minifigure that I own: SW1020 Zuckuss
Total favourite set: 75244 Tantive IV
Total favourite minifigure: SW1020 Zuckuss
https://brickset.com/minifigs/sh579/firefighter Lol Just kidding!
Favorite set: 1989 Batmobile
Favorite minifigure: The Mandalorian
Overall, my favorite theme for this year would have to be Star Wars. A solid winter lineup, a decent spring release, an epic UCS set, delightful Tantive 4, and a superb Force Friday wave!
From my point of view it has to be the treehouse (21318) for this year! no hesitation at all!
The batmobile is not so far behind but the price made me put it in second place.
For the figs, the year was astonishing! my number 1 is Akita - NJO521
But not far behind I chose :
Harley Quinn - Apocalypseburg - TLM134
Ice Emperor (Zane) - NJO522
Iron Man Mark 1 - SH565
Jack Davids (Red Jacket, Open) - HS001
Monkey King - COL344
Mummy Queen - COL347
Tin Man - TLM166
Jack Skellington - DIS039
For the set it's got to be the 21318 Tree House, such a spectacular build and the final esult looks fantastic.
For the Mini-figure for me it's got to be sw0981 Darth Vader (Bacta Tank) from set 75251.

minifigure: jungle explorer/johney thunder
Best set Corner Garage
Best minifigure pink austraunat “lenny” from bennys squad

Minifigures - Baby Voldemort
set-70423 paranormal intercept bus (or maybe 75976 wrecking ball)
minifigure-dis029 scrooge mcduck
There have been a lot of great sets this year, but personaly I have to vote for the 1989 Batmobile (76139) and the included batman minifig.
Favorite set: For me it's gotta be the 70676 Lloyd's Titan Mech, love the design, colour scheme and overall look of it, as well as the generous amount of minifigs to accompany it.
Favorite minifig: col352 Galactic Bounty Hunter from CMF Series 19, absolutely love its menacing appearance and awesome design.
Best set: 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg
Benny's Space Squad!
Jurassic Park T-Rex Rampage!
Set- 10265 Mustang, minifigure- scrooge mcduck
Definitely 10266 Apollo 11 Lunar Lander for the best set!
And the CMF fox for the best minifigure!
My favourite set of 2019 is: 76139 "1989 Batmobile"
My favourite minifigure of 2019 is: njo521 "Akita" from Ninjago
Set - 1989 Batmobile
Minifigure - Galactic (Blacktron) Bounty Hunter
41379: Heartlake City Restaurant was best set I got. Great details while still being playable and well priced.
Fav minifig? SWEET MAYHEM! Our first Space Friendfig!
Set: 10265 Ford Mustang, it really took the creator expert vehicles to the next level.
Minifigure: Lenny from 70841 Benny's Space Squad, I mean, a pink classic space minifig, does it get any better?
10265 and Roadhog
Set: Tree House
Minifigure: Dustin from The Upside Down
@Hobbythom said:
"The Overwatch wrecking ball set. Affordable set with a great build and plenty of play features. I don't play Overwatch and neither does my son but I enjoyed building it and he played for hours with it. "
Absolutely. I could have written exactly the same thing!
10265 Ford Mustang = fun interesting build, looks fantastic (and realistic), extras with engine build, steering, jacked up rear wheels. Best Creator Expert car so far!
(col350) Dog Sitter / Walker from Series 19. It comes with poop! And two great dogs, but, c’mon, poop!!!
While I don't own it, my favorite set is the ideas treehouse, with a close second being Benny's space squad.
Favourite set: 75810 The Upside Down.
Favourite minifigure: dis038 Sally.
Runner-ups, for me, would be 21046 Empire State Building, 70839 The Rexcelsior! and 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer for the sets and st003 Will Byers, ow017 Roadhog and tlm134 Harley Quinn - Apocalypseburg for the minifigures.
My favourite set has to be something I have, and I love the LEGO Ideas 21316 Flintstones set.
Just like the set I must own the figure to be my favourite and my favourite figure has to be one of the 71023 LEGO Movie 2 CMF's Wizard of Oz figures and after a long hard though Tin Man is my favourite of the 4 though Dorothy very closely follows.
Favourite Set = Ideas 21316 Flintstones
Favourite Figure = Tin Man (LEGO Movie 2 Collectable Minifigures 71023)
If I had every set of the year my favourite set would be the 10267 Gingerbread House but sadly I don't own this set yet, so for now the Flintstones is the best.
20th anniversary slave 1 fig the mandalorian
Set: Party Bus
Minifig: Sweet Mayhem
Set: 70841 Benny's Space Squad
Minifigure: SH566 Iron Man Mark 5 Armor (Trans-Clear Head)
The Flintstones and Mando from the Mandalorian
UCS Batmobile is my favourite, with the Ford Mustang a close second
Set: Ideas Treehouse
Minifig: not sure
Really strong year!
Best Set:
20318 Treehouse

Favorite set: Stranger Things The Upsidedown
Favorite Minifigure: Scrooge McDuck (with Huey, Dewey, and Louie of course)
Col 348 Jungle Explorer (not just because of the chameleon)
21045 Trafalgar Square
Best set: Ideas Dinosaurs Fossils; Honorable Mention: Tantive IV (don't own it).
Best minifigure: Bail Organa.
There is a long list which I have... But to be able to choose only one... I would choose 21046 Empire State Building from Architecture series. Totally love it!!!
As for minifigures, I would choose the 3 nephews - Huey, Dewey & Louie as they were a big part of my childhood Donald Duck cartoons...
Set: 60228 Deep Space Rocket and Launch Control. If I was still a child I'd struggle to imagine a more fun play set
Minifigure: sh580 Mysterio
Set:
21319 Central Perk
Minifig:
njo521 Akita
Set: Lego ideas treehouse
Minifigure: gingerbread woman
Set: Monastery of Spinjitzu 70670
Minifigure: Demogorgon ST008
SET: Tie between "Welcome to Apocalypseburg!" & Stranger Things "The Upside-Down"
MINIFIGURE: Zuckuss (because it's about damned time!) Hon. Mention: Roadhog (BigFig)
20th anniversary edition slave I
Ideas tree house and Gingerbread Woman
I can't be bothered to evaluate all the sets I'm familiar with on a more qualitative and objective basis so I'm just going to say that my favorite set this year, by far, is 70825 Queen Watevra's Build Whatever Box! — that's right, no other set this year has managed to delight me quite as much as the first set I purchased all year, if I go by just the wow factor.
If we're counting minidolls then Mia as she appears in 41369 is my favorite this year. I love her outfit. And that set is up there among my other favorites this year. Sweet Mayhem comes pretty close. Banarnar would be my favorite (if we're really going by that list) if only he appeared in his peeled form seen in the movie. His unpeeled appearance just looks boring.
Sticking to regular minifigures my favorite is Reaper as he appears in 75975.
I really enjoy the 42100 Liebherr R 9800 set. That was fun to play with and is massive!
Best set 10266 Apollo 11
Best minifig: jungle explorer
Road-hog big-fig for the minifig nominations
This was very difficult to decide, given the amount of sets released and the overall quality. This was a good year to be a LEGO fan!
Favourite Set: 70835-1: Rex's Rexplorer!
(Alternatives: 10266-1: NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander, 76125-1: Iron Man Hall of Armour, 70839-1: The Rexcelsior!)
Favourite Minifig: SH565 Iron Man Mark 1 Armour (Trans-Clear Head)
(Alternatives: OW006 Soldier: 76, OW008 Reaper, TLM145 Rex Dangervest - Spacesuit with Jet Pack)
10265 Ford Mustang
Fantastic challenging build that looks so good when finished! Based choice on a set that I have built, second place would be 75936 T-Rex and 76139 Batmobile based on reviews, haven't got those two yet :D
Set: Hogwarts clock tower
Minifigure: Major Elrik Vonreg
Yeah, without a doubt the Stranger Things set was the highlight of 2019 for me. It came out of the blue as I was not expecting such an “adult” themed set to be released based on a Netflix property. Here’s to more surprises in 2020!
Favorite set: 70670 Monastery of Spinjitzu
Favorite minifig: njo501 Overlord (Legacy)
Set- Treehouse
Minifig- take your pick from the ice samurais, amazing level of detail and moulding across the theme.
Stranger Things, The Upside Down. Fantastic set!
Oh and the Dustin mini-fig is absolutely perfect.
Too many good sets to just pick one, but my number one is not diffcult to choose, it is the "Welcome to Apocalypseburg"!! Then "UpsideDown", "Paranormal intercept bus" and the "Scrimp shack". As for the minifigs it will be Dustin Henderson from UpsideDown and Harley Quinn from Apocalypseburg.
It's either the Stranger Things set or the 1989 Batmobile.
Really enjoyed Wrecking Ball in terms of sets
CMF Explorer minifig for me
21319 Central Perk. It's a great treat for those who've seen the show and a great deal of useful and interesting parts and minifigs for those who haven't. The fact that people from multiple countries reported that the set was in such high demand that it quickly sold out speaks for itself.
An excellent year, but after careful consideration, I say 1989 Batmobile, Empire State Building or Lunar Lander.
Best Set: 76139 Batmobile
Best Figure: Roadhog (75977)
70825 Queen Watevra's Build Whatever Box!
Sweet Mayhem! (aka Mimi Katavasiya in Russia)
Best set: 21319 Central Perk ... never thought we'd see Friends in Lego!
Best figure: Zuckuss from 75243 .. now we have all the bounty hunters!
21318 Ideas Treehouse!
Set: Benny's Space Squad
Minifig: Fox Costume Girl (or if it has to be from a regular set, D.Va from Overwatch).
Best set: 70676 Lloyd's Titan Mech for its stunning build and looks!
Best minifig: I am torn between tlm117 Lucy and CMF Monkey King
Best minidoll: tlm116 Sweet Mayhem
I don't own it myself, but I'd like to add a nomination for 21318 - Tree House as the set. Not sure about minifigure, I'll get back to you on that one.
Set- either the UCS star destroyer, or the Ford Mustang
Fig- either the Mandalorian or Scrooge McDuck
Definitely Benny’s space squad.
Minifigure would be the bounty hunter from the CMS.
Stranger Things Upside Down; Princess Leia with dress from the Tantive IV
Oh man, this year has been crazy on many level! Also in the LEGO World. Of course we have to mention the new scout trooper (helmet) and hope to find him in a battlepack soon. And not in an overpriced "whatever-action-madness-set" like this year. Zuckuss is great, but the policy "buy an overpriced set an say hooray" is not my way. Speakin of ways: AT-ST Raider with the first rendition of the Mandalorian rules in terms of good figures and "source accuracy". More of that quality in 2020 please!! I like the treehouse, but dislike the "we save the planet" hype concerning the plant-pieces made from sugar! Sustainability? Hell No! And I favor the original version a lot more.
So long speech, short conclusion, the winners are: Junkrat & Roadhog for being a pure sculpture of madness and violence (and therfore a total contradiction to the LEGO Ideology), and the Monkey King for being a brilliant hommage to a great character of the myths of mankind.
It’s close between 10265 Ford Mustang and 75810 The Upside Down. The best mini figure would have to be the mandalorian from the battle pack. (If baby Yoda was included we all know what would win)
Set 76139 - 1989 Batmobile
Minifigure - The Joker (from set 76139)
21318: Tree House
Set: 31088 Deep Sea Creatures
Minifigure: 71024 Hades
21318: Tree House
1989 Batmobile (both)
Best Set: 10267 Gingerbread House
Best Minifig: Lenny (Pink Space Man) from 70841 Benny's Space Squad
Best set: 21318, Tree House
Best minifig: Goofy from 71044, Disney Train and Station.
71044: Disney Train and Station and Best Minifig: 71025: Monkey King (kakarotto)
Best set: 75244 Tantive IV
Best minifig: SW1051 D-O
The Upside Down, and the 1989 Joker minifigure
Slave I
Vintage Mickey Mouse CMF
Set - 10265 Ford Mustang
Minifig - sh565: Iron Man Mark 1 Armor (Trans-Clear Head)
76115 is my pick, something about just having a Very Big Venom speaks to my inner child. I also enjoyed the Benny Squad and the Legacy Ninjago sets this year too.
Favorite minifig is most likely Jungle Explorer from series 19.
I'm sure the big triple digit sets are the objective bests, but I based my bracket on toys I had hands-on experience with.
Favourite set is 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg! Not sure about minifig, maybe the collectable Jack Skellington one.
So many sets that I love and I really like the Hidden Side theme - just always like supernatural stuff, hence loving Monster Fighters and the Stranger Things sets too. However, the one set that I didn't um and ah over getting was 10266 Apollo Lunar Lander so voting for that as my favourite set.
Going for Fox-Girl as my favourite mini-figure, mainly because they did not name Spider-Man in his black suit 'Night Monkey'.
Going only from what I own:
Best set: 70422 Shrimp Shack Attack - good price for a quirky vehicle and decently sized building with detailed interior. I enjoyed building this one, the playability and display possibilities are both excellent, and the stickers weren't overly annoying or distracting
Best minifig: Series 19 Video Game Champ - completely new hair headset mould in an interesting colour that could potentially be applied to space themes, great new videogame controller and printed poster for use in a domestic setting (bedroom, dorm room, common room, lounge, etc), and cool but subtle prints on the legs and torso that allow them to be reused without being too prominent
Best set: The Lego Ideas Tree house for sure. That thing is amazing!
Best minifigure: This one is closer, but the series 13 Jungle explorer is really great. (I would put Overwatch's Hammond the hamster higher if you count him!)
70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg - great build, great display
Set: Stranger Things The Upside Down - awesome and unexpected, closely followed by Apocalypseburg, that was a fun build
Minifig: Demogorgon
Given that is quite impossible to choose among so many great sets has been released this here, these are a bunch of remarkable sets which come to mind:
70841 Benny's Space Squad
60227 Lunar Space Station
21316 The Flintstones
21318 Tree House
75947 Hagrid's Hut: Buckbeak's Rescue
I excluded the excellent 10266 NASA Apollo 11 LEM because I can't forgive the lack of care for the minifigures (a little stand with Armstrong and Aldrin would have mad the set perfect).
Very beautiful the 71044 Disney Train and Station and 75810 The Upside Down, but it is too easy to be attracted by large sets.
About minifigures, I'll try to suppress my nostalgic streak that lead to Lenny and some licensed minifigures in order to use overall quality as core evaluation criteria.
OW002 Widowmaker from Overwatch (just bought the set ^___^)
COL344 Monkey King from CMF19 (not exciting for me, but realy well done)
TLM163 Dorothy Gale CMF-Movie2
OW009 D.Va from Overwatch
DIS036 Hades from CMF-Disney2
njo510-2 Oni Villains from Ninjago Battle Pack
Excellent workmanship for many Stranger Things minifigures too.
PS: about minifigures and database, why don't organize figures in macro categories, such as: minifigures (maybe splitter in standard head and moulded head minifigures), macrofigures, minidoll, brick built figures, microfigures/statuette, Duplo figures, etc... That would make browsing through the database much more comfortable.
Minifig Harley Quinn Apocalypseburg
Favorite set- Definitely the Ideas treehouse. Favorite minifigure- clutch powers
Set: Benny space squad
Minifigure: the Mandalorian
Set:
75240-1: Major Vonreg's TIE Fighter
75957-1: The Knight Bus
Figure:
sw1052: Astromech Droid (Dark Turquoise)
hp194: Baby / Infant - with Stud Holder on Back with White Evil Face Pattern (Baby Voldemort)
Set = the 1989 Batmobile
Fig = gingerbread woman
75240 Major Vonreg's TIE Fighter
and
The Mandalorian
Hmmm a real toughy!
Set - Steamboat Willie 21317
Minifigure - Mickey from steamboat willie (21317)
My favorite set of 2019 was 10266 NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander. My favorite figure of the year was Zuckuss, from 75243.
Best set between batmobile 1989 and Apollo Lunar lander
I think Mustang, Lunar Lander, or Treehouse.
Set: 10266 NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander
Minifig: 71025 Jungle Explorer
Lego Ideas Treehouse
Goofy from Disney Train
Ideas Tree House and Professor J.B. from Hidden Side.
Set: 70840-1: Welcome to Apocalypseburg
Minifig: 71023-19 Tin Man
To Brickset staff: thank you for running the site in such a balanced way.
Best wishes for 2020.
10269 Harley Davidson
or
31088 Deep Sea Creatures
I'm really torn on the minifigure but going with Sweet Mayhem TLM123
Best Set: Corner Garage (I admire this one so much. I always see comments about how modular buildings need to be pushed each year. This was, in a radical directions, and it’s great. Every city needs a building to gas up and fix cars.)
Best Minifigure: Winston
My favourite set (that I own) from this year is 76129-1: Hydro-Man Attack, and my favourite minifigure is sh566: Iron Man Mark 5 Armor (Trans-Clear Head), but Mysterio is a close second.
10266: NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander
Figure: The Mandalorian, Zorii Bliss, Zuckuss
Minifigure - Zuckuss
Set - Ideas Treehouse
My favorite set is Central Perk, great set, with lots of details.
About the minifigure, probably Jack Skellington, loved how Lego turned the character into minifigure form.
Set: 76139-1 1989 Batmobile
Minifigure: Monkey King
Sets: I have yet to build them but it's gonna be either Lloyd's Titan Mech or the Castle of the Forsaken Emperor
Figs: Blizzard Samurai, General Vex and Ice Emperor are all rad
and I think Mysterio deserves some more votes as well, that is a cool one that I wish I had
I’ll vote for 75810 The Upside Down mainly for what it represents (but also because it’s a great looking set). It shows TLG is willing to take a chance on a theme like this, hopefully they release more Stranger Things sets but either way I can’t wait to see what other themes they may create sets for.
Set: 10265 Mustang; outstanding building techniques through the entire set as well a fun color (dark blue) for a car at this scale.
Close seconds:
75890 Ferrari F40 Competizione. Incredible building techniques employed in this set.
10269 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy.
Please note that a $15 set (Ferarri F40) was almost "set of the year" in my book. Smaller sets don't get enough attention when it comes to "set of the year."
Minifig: Chicken Skater (853958 Chicken Skater Pod). Truly adorable!
Close seconds:
Edna Mode (Collectible Minifigures: Disney, Series 2), fantastic hair/glasses piece!
Jafar (Collectible Minifigures: Disney, Series 2), great hat and menacing look.
Padme (75258 Anakin's Podracer - 20th Anniversary), really like the medium legs.
Aladdin Mini Doll ( 41161 Aladdin's and Jasmine's Palace Adventures), captures Aladdin perfectly.
In terms of ‘original’ ideas/sets I think 80101 is the best and closest to the TLG and its values. I thought 70828 was a burst of colours, fun and creativity. Good third was the Benny's squad.
My shortlist:
70828: Pop-Up Party Bus 80102: Dragon Dance 80101: Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner 70422: Shrimp Shack Attack The LEGO Story ; Benny squad (as per many comments above)
There were obviously licensed or (less original) sets I enjoyed too. I would go for the 76139 Batmobile (gingerbread house and upside down close behind). Shortlist:
76125: Iron Man Hall of Armour 75973: D.Va & Reinhardt 10267: Gingerbread House 76139: 1989 Batmobile 75810: The Upside Down 10266: NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander 21319: Central Perk
In terms of minifigs I would go for Captain Jonas from a shortlist of Akita, Captain Jonas, Classic Space - Pink with Airtanks and Updated Helmet, Giraffe Guy , Pharah, Pyro Destroyer, Zuckuss, Zebe.
Impressive to see all the stuff created, manufactured and sold this year.
Sweet mayhem & Corner Garage!
Favorite mid price set, the Toy Story 4 camper set , favorite high price set, Disney Train. Favorite minifig, Disney's Uncle Scrooge.
Set: 75810, The Upside Down, a mix of fun and innovation.
Miniature: Carnage - Long Appendages.
Favorite set: 1989 Batmobile
Favorite minifig: Zuckuss
Set: Welcome to Apocalypseburg!
Minifigure: Demogorgan
Favorite small set:
75258 Anakin's Podracer – 20th Anniversary Edition
Favorite large set(s):
76139 1989 Batmobile
10267 Gingerbread House
10265 Ford Mustang
75810 The Upside Down
(I can't decide.)
Favorite Minifigure:
71025: Jungle Explorer (aka Johnny Thunder 2.0)
Tree House 21318 and Tin Man
Choosing my favorite set of 2019 was a tough one, I would say a tie between 10266 Apollo 11 Lunar Lander and the 75244 Tantive IV, but if I really have to pick one I would go for the Tantive IV.
And as for my favorite minifigure of 2019 I would go for Luke Skywalker (sw0991), I just think the printing is outstanding on that one.
Favorite set: Dinosaur Fossils
Favorite minifig: Demogorgon
Ford mustang definitely deserves a spot on the list, it's gorgeous. I'd like to give a nomination to Jurassic Park T. Rex rampage as well. Both are worthy in my opinion.
I had to realize I don't own too many of this year's set, and I have built even (significantly) less. Not my best Lego year it seems...
The favorite minifig would be the Jungle Explorer from Series 19.
The favorite set probably 70841 Benny's Space Squad (or the Mustang, but I haven't built it yet)
Favorite sets: Darth Vader's Castle, Ford Mustang, Benny's Space Squad
Favorite Minifigures: Bachelor Batman, Bail Organa, Hades, Old Lando Calrissian, Old Luke Skywalker (from the Advent Calendar), Pizza Costume Guy, Sparkle Babies, The Mandalorian, Rampage Unikitty, Jungle Explorer, Fox Costume Girl
Favorite set: 10265
Favorite minifigure(s): either the Classic Space minifigs from set 70841 or the Wizard of Oz minifigs from TLM2 CMF series.
Best Set: 75244 Tantive IV
Best Minifigure: TLM134 Harley Quinn - Apocalypseburg
21318 Tree House (though 10267 Gingerbread House is very close)
Just helped my sister build the Disney Train Set and that surpasses any of the sets I built myself.
And figure has to be Goofy.
Set that I've built myself would be Central Perk.
Sets I'm most looking forward to building Upside Down, Tree House, Lunar Lander, Tantive IV.
Corner Garage. I'm a sucker for all modulars.
Best set was easily the 1989 Batmobile. Best figure for me was Jack Nicholson Joker figure from that set.
Set: 60233 Donut Shop Opening
Figure: Dog Sitter from Collectibles Series 19

Yes mate!
Set: Stranger Things Upside-down
Figure: The Demogorgon
Best set- 1989 Batmobile
Best minifig- Rescue or Apocalypseburg Harley Quinn
76125 Hall of Armor for set
Pink spaceman for minifig
I was very impressed by the minifigures in the summer wave of Ninjago, to the point that I considered purchasing a couple of the sets just to get my hands on them. Consequently, my mention has to go to Aspheera.
Though there were plenty of excellent high-end sets put out this year, my vote goes to the NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander, not only because of the overall quality of its construction but because of the timing of its release.
Minifigure: Akita from Ninjago. Her northern aesthetic and tribal look really caught my eye.
Set: Either 75810-1: The Upside Down or 21318-1: Tree House. Both really impressed me both visually and seem to be quite challenging to build (I haven't acquired them as of right now.)
There were various amazing sets this year, hard to pick just one but my vote is for Ideas Treehouse. Looks incredible on display, I hope I can get it at some point when it goes on sale. As for minifigures, Giraffe Suit Guy and if big figs are also allowed I really like Roadhog from Overwatch theme.
Minifig: CMF S19 Galactic Bounty Hunter

Looking back, I have not bought a whole lot in 2019. But based on my more limited perspective, my list is...
Best Set: 70828 Pop-Up Party Bus. Amazing design, fun function, lots of great colors.
Runners Up: 70423 Paranormal Intercept Bus 3000 and 21043 San Francisco
Best Fig: Lego Movie 2 CMF Giraffe Guy
Runner Up: Disney 2 CMF Jasmine (not the most complex design but I'm partial to the character)
I find it hard to decide, also because a number of sets turned out to be studs, and others somewhat duds, when I built them.
Top sets (owned):
21046 – Architecture: Empire State
40354 – Brickheadz: Dragon Dance Guy
40367 – Brickheadz: Lady Liberty

70676 – Ninjago: Lloyd’s Titan Mech
70679 – Ninjago: The Ultra Dragon
70840 – Lego Moevie 2: Welcome to Apocalypseburg
I will narrow it down to different budgets (roughly up to 50 euros, 50 - 100 euros, above 100 euros).
Top set low(er) budget: 31088 - Creator:Deep Sea Creatures
Top set mid level budget: 70676 - Ninjago: Lloyd's Titan Mech

https://brickset.com/sets/70841-1/Benny-s-Space-Squad
https://brickset.com/sets/6702-1/Space-Mini-Figures
Runner up set: 80102 Dragon Dance. LEGO made some brilliant sets for the Chinese market, even if they were hard to get. https://brickset.com/sets/80102-1/Dragon-Dance. The new 2020 Chinese sets look even better!
Best minifigure: Batman from 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg. Someone spent hours on those shoulder pads. https://brickset.com/minifigs/tlm130/batman-battle-ready-tire-armor-tattered-cape-yellow-utility-belt-reddish-brown-boots

Mustang, Tantive and Stranger Things Upside Down
Best set: Ford Mustang https://brickset.com/sets/10265-1/Ford-Mustang
Demogorgan, Pizza Guy, Giraffe Guy
Trying to stay away from licensed IPs. Minifig is Sweet Mayhem - Crooked Smile, Raised Eyebrow TLM116
Lego set is the Mustang.
Incredibly disappointed in the Lego Superhero sets all year long. But the Iron Man Mark 41 (black n gold) is amazing.
Set: central perk
Minifig: dustin from stranger things
Monastery of Spinjitzu. Been waiting for this set since 2011
Best Set: 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer https://brickset.com/sets/75252-1/Imperial-Star-Destroyer
Best Minifigure: The Mandalorian https://brickset.com/minifigs/sw1057/the-mandalorian
I mainly only collect Lego Star Wars, but.........
Favorite set: 1989 Batmobile
Favorite minifigure: 1989 Batman with new cape/cowl
Set easy. Benny space squad. Best by far. Great comeback of classic space.
Figure is a bit more difficult as there are no stand outs for both detail, iconisity and not a character we get 100 times a year. So here are a few that cought my eye.
Ocean master from DC I quite like the look of after watching the aquaman film.
Rescue / iron man Mark 5 both seem reasonably accurate and have some good detail.
Bail Organa is a good figure to get for Star wars as it's a new character for this year
And finally
Clutch powers, it's great to finally get that guy.
Nominations:
Best set: darth vaders castle 75251
Slave 1 75243
Best minifig:
(pfff....tough one....so many to choose from....here goes:)
tlm2: sweet mayhem, lenny, chainsaw dave
Overwatch: Reinhardt, roadhogg
Cmf: monkey king
StarWars: major Vonreg
Stranger things: Demogorgon
Ninjago: Spinjitzu slam FS jay
70419-1: Wrecked Shrimp Boat and sw1040: Festive Gonk Droid (GNK Power Droid).
The best set was easily the D2C Batmobile. It was just a tonne of fun to build.
My favorite minifig... that's tough. I'll say Scrooge McDuck, because he was the biggest pleasant surprise. There were just so many great minifigs across the TLM2 and Hidden Side themes as well though. Like, SO many. It was a good year. :D
Tree House
Stranger Things
The new Space sub-theme of City is amazing, especially https://brickset.com/sets/60227-1/Lunar-Space-Station
For the minifigure: https://brickset.com/sets/71025-7/Jungle-Explorer
The details are great!
UCS Batmobile 76139
Duplo World is Animals 10907 (Because of the whales!)
Benny's Space Squad and Hagrid with tie from Beauxbatons Carriage.
The best sets: Lloyd's Titan Mech, Newbury High School, Welcome to Apocalypseburg, the Stranger Things set, the Ideas Tree House, and the1989 Batmobile.
The best figures: Aspheera, Akita, The Ice Emperor, and the Demogorgon.
Best Set (currently building too): Welcome to Apocalypseburg!; second best set: Stranger Things: The Upside Down.
Best mini-figure: Scarecrow, but I really can't decide.
For set: I'm going to go with 10267: Gingerbread House.
For minifig: I'm going to vote for the pink classic space minifig from 70841: Benny's Space Squad. It's a close one for being best set though.
My favorite set was 70676 Lloyd's Titan Mech and my favorite figure is Roadhog.
This is close. The 1989 Batmobile, Kylo Ren’s Shuttle, Expecto Patronum and Benny’s Space Squad are all contenders, but I think I should nominate 21319 Central Perk.
As for minifigures, I might list The Mandalorian or Sirius Black as my favourites. Hades, Mysterio, Pink Spaceman or any of the Wizard of Oz characters almost made it.
Best set: 76139 '1989 Batmobile'
Best Minfigure: Sweet Mayhem from 70830 'Systar Starship'
Best Set: 10266 NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander
Best Minifig: Pink Classic Space Minifig from the 70841 Benny's Space Squad
Apocalypseburg Abe
Monkey King
Road Hog (if bigfigs are included)
21318-1: Tree House
70841-1: Benny's Space Squad
Set - 76139 - 1989 Batmobile
Fig - Benny (and his squad)
Other sets that I want: treehouse, mustang
Having read through other comments, I have been reminded of both apocalypse Harley and far from home mysterio. Both good contenders for best fig.
Corner Garage. The modular building is typically my favorite set of the year, it’s definitely what I look forward to most. Tree House was awfully good and I say it’s a close 2nd.
Favorite minifigure has to be The Mandalorian. There were a lot of exceptional ones though.
Set: 10266 Apollo Lunar Lander
Minifig: col343 Fright Knight
Favorite Minifigures: Sparkle Babies! the turquoise one if I have to choose between them.
Benny's Space Squad
Fig: Sweet Mayham
For my kid its probably 60220: Garbage Truck
For me it is Iron Man Mark I (SH565) or Sandman (SH537).
I haven't gotten any of the big sets this year, so I would pick Ninjago 70669: Cole's Earth Driller.
I’ve decided to edit my previous comment.
While my favourite set is still The Upside Down, I am changing my favourite minifigure to be a tie between Will Byers, Dustin Henderson and the Demogorgon.
Please win Stranger Things over the frankly dreadful Batmobile. The front is just so off putting to me while The Upside Down is a work of art, employing an array of wonderful and unconventional building techniques.
10265 Ford Mustang. Great build experience and fantastic display set with lots of customization.
Bigfig: 75977 Roadhog. Great dual moldings and details.
Minifig: 71025-4 Monkey King the pictures of it don't do it justice. The coloring and print is amazing, and the accessories are good too. The gold on the front of the rubber tail piece was a very nice detail that tied it all together for me.
Hard to come out with the "Best" but my choices:
76139: 1989 Batmobile
70841: Benny's Space Squad
10265: Mustang
70840: Welcome to Apocalypseburg!
75810: The Upside Down
Minifig: 1989 Batmobile Batman
Sewer Babies
Dustin
Should do a best of the decade too.
Best set: Deep Sea Creatures
Best fig: Tin Man (LM2 CMF)
Best set: 70841 Benny's Space Squad
There were a lot of extremely impressive/beautiful sets this year but only one of them brought back classic spaceman in a $10 set.
Best minifig: Series 19 Jungle Explorer
Johnny Thunder!! Adventurers is one of my favourite themes and I always love when they redo classic minifigs with modern parts and design stylings!
Although a close runner-up is the extremely happy Unikitty from 5005239 Castle Room; she's so cute :)
Favorite Set: Ideas Treehouse!
Favorite Minifig: General Leia
I’m going to pick 2for each (in no particular order)
Set: Benny’s Space Squad and the Captain Marvel movie set
Minifigure: The Mandalorian and TROS Rey (I did just get Rey for Christmas so that may influence my opinion, but I really like the detail and the character)
70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg!

Best Set: 1989 Batmobile (large D2C one), Ideas Tree House a close second
Best Minifig: Harley Quinn from Apocalypseburg

Best minifig: series 19 Gamer Guy
Best set : haven't built any of them yet, but most likely 76139: 1989 Batmobile or 70840: Welcome to Apocalypseburg! or 75936: Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage.

For sets 21319 (because it was present to my wife ;)) and 70841 (because this was a fantastic journey back to my childhood) and minifigures sh575: Iron Man - White Jumpsuit, Neck Bracket all i think know why (the impact of the MCU brand is so strong ...) and sw1022: Princess Leia (20th Anniversary Torso) ( everything is ending ... sniff )
Best Set: 75244 Tantive IV
Best Minifigure: Zuckuss
Set i dont really know ?
But the figure would be the classic Police officer from minifigure series :)

Best minifig – hp200 Hagrid with Topcoat (75958)

Batman figure from new 1989 Batmobile.
Set is Treehouse.
Set: 42082 Rough Terrain Crane
Fig: Dancing Benny from 70848
Edit.. Crane was 2018! From 2019.. 75895 Porsche
My teenage son just built the Lunar Lander and it's a nice set. I would have chosen it as my favorite 2019 set; however, it's too sticker-heavy.
So with that said, I would have to go with the 1989 Batmobile. It is a classic designed set with nice minifigures.
As for minifigures, I like the Iron Man with Mark 1 Armor...SH565...from Set number 76125. I didn't expect it to ever be released, but it's a nice representation of this character on a minifigure scale.
Set and minfigs: Benny's Space Squad. Pocket money, and a very nostalgic set. While born nearly 20 years after Classic Space was a thing, I quite like this era of sets. I did swap the buggy's wheels for the old style red wheel/metal axle wheel I just so happened to have.
Top 10 in no particular order: The Upside Down, NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander, Tantive IV, Slave I 20th Anniversary Edition, Ford Mustang, McLaren Senna, Benny's Space Squad, Tree House, 1989 Batmobile, and the Liebherr excavator. I don't own all of these but I think they're all great.
For me, Best set: 21318 Tree House Honorable mention: 70841 Benny's Space Squad
Best minifig: tlm108: Classic Space - Pink with Airtanks and Updated Helmet (Lenny)
Set: 10266 Apollo Lunar Lander
Fig: Pink Lenny from 70841 Benny’s Space Squad
I think the Dinos have won it for me 75936 Jurrasic Park gate and T Rex!!!
But a close second was the Overwatch 75977 Junkertown Bike, I don't play the game but it grabbed me soon as I saw it.
Cant pick a favourite minifigure so many great ones but for me the worst CMF COL356 the aweful pink bear costume guy from series 19
My favourite set is 75810 and favourite minifigure is demogorgon from same set
Set: 70670 Monastery of Spinjitzu
Minifigure: The Mandalorian from 75254
Set ; Stranger things 75810, a top set from a fantastic serie designed by a great designer...
Minifig : Dustin Henderson ST005.
Set: 70831 Emmet's Dream House/Rescue Rocket
Minifigure: HS009 Jack Davids
75252 Imperial Star Destroyer
Set: 10265 Ford Mustang
Minifig: I don't know, there are just too many
The Praetorian Guard Battle Pack is a great small scale set
Best set – 75810: The Upside Down
Best minifig – SW1020 Zuckuss
While there are many sets I could put here (Ideas Treehouse and 1989 Batmobile, for example), I'm only going to pick from ones that I own. Considering this, 75810 The Upside Down is my favorite set of 2019.
For minifigures, however, I do not feel obligated to choose from ones I own. Personally, it comes down to a tie between the Stranger Things Demogorgon and the new Star Wars Scout Trooper (blame it on The Mandalorian, Episode 8).
My favorite purchase this year was 71044 Disney Train and Station
Favourite sets 70841 Benny's Space Squad and 4002019 Christmas X Wing
Favourite figure 71024 Jack Skellington
Absolute favorite: Benny's Space Squad
Runner up: 1989 Batmobile
Favorite minifig: Apocalypseburg Abe
Favorite set - 75810: The Upside Down
Favorite minifigure - dis038: Sally
These are my personal favorites of the year. Sure there are bigger, more complex, more detailed sets and minifigues that this, but sometimes that's not the point.

Out of what I own, I gotta go with the Hidden Side Shrimp Boat.
Set: 10266-1: NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander
https://brickset.com/sets/10266-1/NASA-Apollo-11-Lunar-Lander
Minifigure: tlm108: Classic Space - Pink with Airtanks and Updated Helmet (Lenny)

71025 - shower guy
https://brickset.com/sets/71025-2/Shower-Guy

I think the best set should be 75256 Kylo Ren's Shuttle, and the best minifigure should be the Harley Quinn from Apocalypseburg.
Salve 1 - 20th Anniversary Set
Ultimate quinjet has to be one of the best
Set: 75253 Droid Commander

Rise of Voldemort.
Simply for the amount of great things to come out of such a small set
Best Figure
Baby Voldemort
75936: Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage
71025: Jungle Explorer
I think my favorite build/set of the year was Welcome to Apocalypseburg, Just had so many unique designs and details, no bag was like the other. Plus the mini figure selection was awesome!
Favorite Fig was probably the Demogorgon. Simplistic in design, but easily identifiable and different. I love that one!
Set: Welcome to Apocalypseburg!
Minifig: 71025 Monkey King
Set:Benny's Space Squad
Minifig: I have no favourite
Set: 76139: 1989 Batmobile
Minifigure: Scrooge McDuck
In my opinion, for a set to be considered “the best” it needs to not only be a good set in itself but it should also have wide appeal and be affordable. With all that in mind, I agree with the other commenters and nominate Benny’s Space Squad
Yuletide squadron pilot.
And
Jurassic park gate
Favorite set: Welcome to Apocalypseburg

The creator expert NASA apollo Leander
The ideas friends central perk
Set: Lego Ideas 21318 Tree House
Minifigure: D-O from 75257 Millennium Falcon and 75249 Resistance Y-Wing
For the set I’d have to stick to a main stay - Corner Garage. Even though it’s typical and is one modular I think it started the year off great.
I didn’t really have a favorite minifigure of the year but if I had to decide and make a choice it would be the one fright knight from the collectible minifigure series only.
Set: 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg
Minifigure: tlm205 Stardust Benny

The Creator Expert Ford Mustang ( 10265-1 ). In my opinion, the best so far LEGO's replica of a real car.

For best set, I would have to say Benny's Space Squad, but, I would also like to nominate Shrimp Shack Attack and the architecture skyline for Paris.
For best minifigure, Baby Voldemort or Akita from ninjago.
Set: 10266 Lunar Lander
Minifig: The Mandalorian
Set: 75243 Slave I
Minifig: SW1020 Zuckuss
Best set: 70840 welcome to apocalypseburg

Slave 1. I think we’re quickly reaching the point where the OT Star Wars sets can’t be improved upon.
The Millennium falcon this year finally got rid of those awkward gaps and brought the price back down to $160. I believe that makes it the best this year.
I like the pizza guy and the gingerbread house. I would've put the Saturn V rocket, but it isn't released in 2019.
Batmobile 1989
Sandman
Set: Batmobile 1989
Minifig: Monkey King
10265 Ford Mustang, captures the aesthetics so good and that combined with steering and the possibility to 'tune' it, makes it for me the number one for 2019.
Stranger things upside down set is the best!
21318 Tree House. Awesome!
Favorite set: 75251: Darth Vader's Castle
Favorite Minifig: sw1057: The Mandalorian
I would like to suggest the LEGO Technic Land Rover Defender 42110 and the Chef - Black Legs, Open Mouth Smile, Hair in Bun, 'LEGO - CHEF026 minifigure
60227: Lunar Space Station was a breath of fresh air. Fully closeable model with playability access and nice details. Excitement for this series was visible and this set fell near the middle of the price points.
75252 Imperial Star Destroyer
Favourite set has to be 75251 Darth Vaders Castle
Great Minifig selection and a decent price. To me it was a must have set this year!
Creator Expert Ford Mustang. A beautiful build, enjoyable to put together, and a great display piece.
21318 Tree House
It is on my wish list, I don't have it (yet). It is the first set that came to mind out of all sets released this year. I could have picked the new SW Tantive IV spaceship set, which I recently bought, but I think the Tree House is more impressive as a Lego set, and will be more memorable and quintessentially one of those stand out typical Lego sets that will still be cherished and loved by many people a decade from now.
The Millenium Falcon
As set(s) 10265 Ford Mustang and 21318 Tree House equally and as minifigure "Johnny Thunder" Jungle Explorer (https://brickset.com/sets/71025-7/Jungle-Explorer).
Ninjago Legacy Monastery
75256 Kylo Ren’s Shuttle. They finally got it right, and its just beautiful.
Central Perk
LEGO Stranger Things The Upside Down
My favorite set: Tantive IV 75244
Creator Expert Ford Mustang
Tree house
Akita
For me, it would be 10266 - Apollo 11, followed closely by 75810 - The Upside Down.
The creativity and ability to use lego elements to depict the lunar lander was a great match to the earlier 21309 - Apollo Saturn V.
Several good sets this year. But my vote is for the 21318 Tree House.
I nominate 75251, Darth Vader's Castle
Ideas Tree house by far 20318 Treehouse
75810 The Upside Down and 10266 NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander
