If TLG comes with a baby Yoda mf, it will make my year in 2020 as well!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Overwatch.
Don’t play the game, and know hardly anything about it, but the set designs have been excellent.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Was a close one between Overwatch and Harry Potter, but the latter has been providing consistently great sets along with the CMF series, and the advent calendar.

2019 was a bit of a weak year for Marvel in my opinion, and 2020 doesn't look particularly exciting either...

By in Australia,

Very split between Speed Champions and Star Wars, but only just went with Star Wars, due to the excellent re-edition of the Tantive IV. Oh, and also the Slave One.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Very split between: Ideas, Overwatch, Star Wars, City and Hidded Side but I choose Overwatch as the introduction of a FPS videogame topic is interesting and mixed with the City Space range it's a hit.

Gravatar
By in Estonia,

Voted for "The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part" (due to "Classic" Space sets).
2020's vote would probably go to Chinese New Year (subtheme for Seasonal) unless something epic like NINJAGO City comes along and bests 80105.

By in Hungary,

Looking at the number of sets purchased, it has to be ninjago. Really enjoyed the legacy line since I missed out a lot of early sets, on which the revisions greatly improve.

Gravatar
By in France,

Hidden Side ! Really fell in love with this one

Same for same reason.

For me it would be a Babu Frik.

By in United Kingdom,

This is personal, non-objective opinion.
I've bought more Harry Potter than anything else. The theme has been solid across all the sets, not really a duff offering in the whole range... expecto patronum could have been improved with a bit more attention given to the lake, but as a small set I can see why they did what they did.
Overwatch and Hidden Side sets were very interesting sets and there are plenty more I want, but I felt the quality and look of the sets was a bit patchy.
Speed Champions wasn't as good this year with the exception of the 'mini' set and ferrari Competizione.
Star Wars was as patchy as ever, with too few reasonably priced highlights.
Creator is always a mixed bag and the Expert range is too expensive for me to truly judge.
Bought quite a few TLM2 sets too, but again, appeal for me was patchy.
So, for me, as a favourite theme it's Harry Potter, by quite a long way.

By in United Kingdom,

I just had to go with Overwatch, such a great selection of different builds with some truly great minifigures to go along with them. Spaceships to mechs to city style buildings, this line had it all.
I do hope the overwatch line continues in 2020, need Ana and some Talon soldiers to army build!!!

Gravatar
By in France,

the hidden side série , remind me the monster fighter i love this série (not the concept of the phone companion ... ) the figs are great
Overwatch was a great surprised to some good sets

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Hidden side, as everything is computer related but this series makes you build and get active with motion

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lots of good sets from many different themes this year, but TLM2 had the most varied and interesting range of all. Had to choose that one given I'd bought everything from Welcome to Apocalypseburg down to Sweet Systar's pod....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I voted for City this year, simply because of the Space theme.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

In the end I had to go with Hidden Side- it’s good to see Lego doing something new and ambitious with its own IP. Harry Potter was excellent again this year, but that’s becoming to be expected!

If it was a vote for sub themes City Space walks away with it.

Gravatar
By in South Africa,

Marvel sets over the last few years have slowly become more average as time goes on. More and more sets are being based on concept art from, at the time, unreleased movies, so the sets reflect virtually nothing from what we see in cinemas and focus is put more on exclusive minifigures and gimmicky play features rather than good builds. And the exclusive minifigs aren't even a big enough draw to buy certain sets when you can just get them after market.
76057, 76036, 76015, 76017, 76022, 76005 are the best Marvel builds in my opinion.
Sets released in 2017 to 2019 is so sub par compared to 2012 to 2016.

DC went through the same thing when they started basing too many sets on the DCEU (especially in 2017), but that was fixed pretty quickly when WB messed up that film franchise.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Very torn on this:
Love, Stranger Things, but it's just one set
SW, just keeps re-hashing and it's getting boring, but, I do want an ISD
Speed Champ, I still buy what comes out, love it
Ideas, have been good this year I feel too, but I haven't bought many due to price
Friends, love it, but only one set

So, I went SC, as it's the only one I have bought all of, despite that stupid big Mini

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Stranger Things. What an epic build!

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Overwatch, definitely. Great set designs, great minifigures (just hoping for a improvement for Mercy now), and finally opened the doors for themes based upon game IPs. Really looking forward for the 2020 sets of the line and hope it stays for a long time. And, of course, that more games finally get a licensed line as result.

Praise also for the Speed Champions (which will get even better next year with the 8-wide cars), Star Wars, Architecture, Hidden Side, The LEGO Movie 2 and Creator/Creator Expert themes.

From City, only the Space sets were really interesting.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

LEGO Ideas this year has been a marvellous theme, some great sets with tons of great details and figures.

My favourite sets are the Friends Central Perk, Flintstones and Treehouse

Gravatar
By in Romania,

Hidden Side. One of the best LEGO themes to come out of recent years.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

My favourite themes are Star Wars, Harry Potter, Ideas, Creator Expert and Overwatch. Although i like SW and HP more, i will vote this year for Overwatch since it is a 2019 theme.

I'm hoping for more Overwatch sets in the future!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really a tough choice! Here are some of the standouts for me:

- Architecture. Only 4 sets this year, but wow, they are bangers. In fact, with the exception of 21044 Paris (which is merely decent), the Architecture sets released in 2019 are at the absolute peak of the series; some of the best sets we have ever seen in the theme. San Fran is an absolutely perfect skyline with some wonderful landscaping and perspective work. Trafalgar Square is dense, detailed, and clever as can be. The Empire State Building is stunning with impressive scale, and I cannot imagine this building even being possible to do any better. Really outstanding year for Architecture.

- Harry Potter just killed it this year. I don't have much to say about it since I'm not a big fan of the series, but it's impossible to deny how great the sets and selections were this year. I won't be upset at all if this one wins it for 2019.

- Speed Champions: my personal pick for 2019. There just isn't a bad set here, IMO. The F40 was a perfect subject for the 6-wide SC scale, and the parts to swap it between street and sport versions were the perfect little add-on. The Camaro ZL1 was pretty simple, but the little details really elevated it: the new racing slick tire pieces, the fantastic roll cage design, and the refuelling cap were great ideas, and it's always nice to introduce new genres of racing to the theme. The McLaren Senna is widely regarded as one of the best cars the theme has ever seen, with some outstanding parts usage and build techniques. The Challenger/Charger is yet another killer double pack, joining the Ford GT and Porsche sets as some of the best in the theme's history. Even this year's most controversial set, the Mini/buggy set, ended up getting snatched up by most fans, if only for the strength of the '67 design, which was essentially flawless. The late release '74 Porsche was a nice addition for anyone who missed last year's double pack or just wanted that car in another color, and I'd love to see more of this sort of thing in the future.

Runners Up:
- Technic had a great year with some beautiful flagships.
- Ninjago was as solid as ever, and the Legacy sets were a great idea.
- Overwatch had two stellar waves, bring a lot of non-fans to the theme.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I Voted Ninjago, second favorite would be Ideas, as I own the Treehouse and really like it! Another favorite would be Speed Champions!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

According to how many sets have appeared in the house over Christmas, it's Toy Story by some way.
I think my daughters being fans of the films may have had some influence

Gravatar
By in Canada,

While Star Wars and Marvel Super Heroes had a lot of good sets this year, I'd have to vote for The Lego Movie 2. While the film wasn't as good as the first one or The Lego Batman Movie, the actual sets themselves were really great, especially the Rex-themed ones. The Rexplorer has so many additional builds included, and the Rexcelsior is one of the better micro-scale vehicles we've gotten in recent years.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Mine is Speed Champions without a doubt. Getting all that oldschool sport cars just made my year. Too bad that new ones will be 8 studs wide.

Gravatar
By in United States,

DC was the highlight for me thanks to the Batmobile set, but Jurassic World was a close second

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Hesitated a bit between BrickHeadz and Speed Champions. Opted for this latter because firstly BHz are seemingly in decline, and, on the contrary, SCs are in clear ascension, mostly due to their foreseen quality evolution in 2020.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Couldn't spring for the Star Destroyer, but with Darth Vader's Castle and Yoda, have to go with Star Wars. But Lego Movie 2, Ideas, Creator and Creator Expert also were very high on my list, and some of the smaller Harry Potter and Ninjago sets were very cool.

Collectible Minifigures looks like it will have the early lead for me in 2020. How about some Watchmen minifigures, and another Firestorm!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Although I hate (yes, hate!) both the books and the movies, Harry Potter wins hands down with some excellently designed sets and minifigures. There's just something about them that's so pleasing to the eye.
Other honorable mentions include Hidden Side (love the idea behind it, even if it needs a little refinement), Stranger Things (amazing set and minifigures, but I can't really call it a "theme" with just the one set!), and Xtra (I really think these should be more widely available, in supermarkets and such like).
Under performers this year for me were Creator Expert (amazing vehicle, but mediocre modular and no amusement park set this time around), Ideas (some really good sets, but those Flintstones minifigures are just ghastly), and Toy Story (the sets, for 4+, were generally good, but again the minifigures are probably my pick for worst of the year. Bring back the specialised heads!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was a hard choice for me. But while Ninjago had yet another banner year and Hidden Side had an amazing debut, I had to vote for The Lego Movie 2 since now more than ever it feels like the kind of theme we might not see the likes of for a long time. Both the movie and the sets expertly delivered on my hopes and dreams for a sequel. The Systar System side of the theme helped to fill the void that the end of the Elves theme left in my heart, while the macho Rex Dangervest vehicles scratched the same itch as themes like Agents had for me in the past. It's disappointing that the incredible writing and visual direction for the sequel didn't lend the movie or sets greater success, and there's so much more that I would have loved to see the sets cover if they had gotten the chance at even just one more wave. But I suppose leaving you wanting more can be a quality of a good theme in and of itself.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have to go HP. This second wave was great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For me, I would have to say Harry Potter is my number one choice. The sets are just amazing. I started the year having collected all of the first wave of new sets, and was undecided on collecting all of the second wave. Well, after just two builds, I realized I must have them all. Normally, I am a huge City/Town collector going all the way back to the first Town sets, but lately I have been disappointed in that area. So I decided to spend my LEGO dollars elsewhere.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Overwatch and Hidden Side were both pleasant surprises, but with the Apollo lander, Harley Davidson and Ford Mustang Creator Expert has to be my favourite theme of 2019.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I love "Hidden Side" but, "Harry Potter" had more sets that I really wanted to purchase this year, so my vote goes to HP. Tough to pick just one though, since I also love the CMFs, and Creator Expert.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Harry Potter was exceptional as ever, and Star Wars was actually pretty decent, but my vote had to go to Ninjago. It seems to improve every year!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Both superhero themes were awesome this year
And Harry Potter..

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Even though with just one set out, the Stranger Things theme is the one I'm choosing, mainly for its originality.
Runner up, TLM2 with Apocalypseburg and related minifigs.
Third, I would say Architecture.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

My favorite theme is usually CMF, however this year was kind of weak, I hope next year they come back with great series. My vote goes for Ideas, I like most of the sets they released in 2019.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have to go with Harry Potter this year. While I haven't gotten around to purchasing all the sets the ones I don't have yet are at the top of my wanted list. I really like the Hidden Side theme but there are some sets that I don't want from the theme.
The Ideas sets for the most part have been really good. And the City Space subtheme really knocked it out of the park.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

While my most desirable set of the year is in Ideas - the Tree House - that's just one set, and the rest of it's offerings didn't hold particular appeal to me this year; therefore, I cast my vote for theme overall to Hidden Side. I know the line has some weaknesses, but the aesthetic and concept, as a whole, really won me over, and the spectacular character designs just cemented it as my choice for favourite theme this time around ^^

I will admit that Harry Potter probably takes an honourable mention, too; but I just found less in this wave that interested me, compared to the previous year. That's just my personal preference, though.

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

Classic. It's all about the brick.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gotta go with the City Space theme. Feels weird typing that out, but us Spacers gotta get our SPACE any way we can. Plus the sets have been really phenomenal.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I thought Star Wars was a little lacklustre this Year, I guess built in fan base overrides the actual available sets.
Marvel being so low is a surprise in that even the biggest movie of the century being released couldn’t translate to good and wanted lego sets.
Creator 3-in-1 was my favourite. So diverse, fun, and great value.
Obviously in terms of techniques and theme variety Lego ideas and Creator Expert win hands down. I just wanted to give creator some love.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

1. Harry Potter
2. Architecture
3. LEGO Ideas
4. Creator Expert
5. Speed Champions

Gravatar
By in United States,

Overwatch hands down. It is the first theme I've ever collected 100% of. I used to play the game every single day. It's been a long time since I've booted up the game, but I'm sure I'll get Overwatch 2 when it launches. I can't wait for the next 6 sets coming through 2020.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Hands down for me has to be Hidden Side. While I have collected and still collect the licensed themes I enjoy, LEGO IPs consistently impress, and the newest theme is very impressive.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Went with HP. I love the franchise & the sets have all been fantastic, minifigs included.

Honorable mentions to Hidden Side, Overwatch, & The Second Part.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hidden Side for sure! Such fun sets! New and unique ideas, colorful sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For me hidden side... great fun builds... good value at pence per piece because unlicensed... and then even cheaper still... in the Uk... got 33-55% or more off every set I bought... (which may mean they are not selling that well, which will be a shame)...
Second place - ideas: treehouse and friends are great sets... Flintstones could’ve done better with better minifig design

Gravatar
By in United States,

My heart will always belong to DC, but that Batmobile is hands down the coolest set released this year. However, while I have no intention of trying to run the entire series, I fully expect Harry Potter to walk away with this one. Granted, the original theme was pretty much exhausted by the time I even watched the first movie, but the set designs really didn't impress me back then. The revival back when the movie series was wrapping up was a huge improvement, but still pales in comparison to what they've done with Wizarding World.

@colay:
Don't forget the ultra-rare SDCC minifig! Or maybe do, if it's too painful to think about.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Creator Expert was great as always. Harry Potter and Architecture would be a close second for me. After that maybe Hidden Side, Ideas and Overwatch. No love from me for Star Wars this year and nothing but utter hate for what TLG did to Technic. RIP, you used to be my absolute favorite theme, but those days are long gone sadly.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I had to go with Ideas. I absolutely love Central Perk and really need to get the Flintstones and Treehouse.

I do admit that Creator Expert, Harry Potter and Star Wars were close though.

I also want to give a shout out to Hidden Side which is a cool theme (even though I don’t plan on getting a lot of sets) and DC which has outdone Marvel this year

Gravatar
By in United States,
Gravatar
By in United States,

I never thought that I would have chosen a Harry Potter anything, but I did.

I only saw all the films this year, so this choice is very, very biased.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd normally give it to Star Wars because I just love UCS, but this year it's gotta be Creator Expert. 10265 Mustang and 10266 Lunar Lander are both awesome.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Speed Champions was my vote.

Gravatar
By in France,

Ideas with how strong the Tree House is. Lots of other nice sets in there too, like the Dinosaur Fossils. And it's pretty much the same as Creator Expert now.

Then for me the runner ups would be Creator Expert and Overwatch.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

My favourite theme would actually be one not listed, the Lunar New Year Sets from the beginning of the year. Such love and attention to detail went into their design. It’s a shame their roll out was such a shambles, with large parts of the world not getting them at all and even in places where they were shipped they would sell out very quickly.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Creator Expert for me for the win.
The Lunar Lander and Ford Mustang are true stand out models in this line and the entire Lego run of 2019. Design, details, play and displayability!

Aside from The Flintstones, the iDeas line is strong with wonderful display models.

And all by itself, the Stranger Things Upside Down house is a true Lego official MoC! With this kit you get the best of many themes within one set: essentially TWO buildings, detailed terrain, vehicle, exclusive licensed kit, exclusive figs, innovative design and play feature, new colors, detailed interior, printed elements. THE best model kit of 2019!
You can't ask anymore from a single set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Having avoided the rabbit hole of OT Star Wars for years, Yodas Hut and Bacta Chamber got me hooked and then I bought the excellent X-Wing and Slave 1. No regrets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I went with Harry Potter. Don't have any of the sets, but since this revival started I've been blown away by its consistent high quality.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Even though I don't own any Hidden Side sets, I still think it's very strong new theme. However, considering my personal preferences and only sets released this year, Stranger Things wins by a narrow margin over Star Wars, Creator Expert, Ideas, and Architecture, with Harry Potter being an honorable mention for such an impressive reboot. The main reason for this choice is that 100% of the line is of incredible design quality (there's only one set, LOL).

Gravatar
By in United States,

@BakkerBuilder— I agree, a Baby Yoda minifigure would be a first day buy for me!!!

Star Wars is the best theme....ever! It allows me to be a kid again. I love it!

Please make many Mandalorian sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd say either Star Wars or CMF, with City and Creator tied for close second. I voted Star Wars by the way.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

They are very simple, but I really like the little Xtra bags.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They hosed Speed Champions with the forthcoming change in car scale, so that's out. Also, the new 8-wide cars are somehow uglier and less representative of their source material.

Voted Creator Expert since at least those are interesting and fun to build, plus look great on display.

Would have voted Pirates or Castle if they brought either one back. =P

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Is it me or are there to many theme's?

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Creator & Speed Champions were my favourite cause I could affort them.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Since Nexo Knights ended in 2018, 2019 was a mixed year for me.

I don't collect licensed themes so a lot of the themes are ignored.

Some LEGO Movie 2, City and most Creator 3-in-1 sets.

I also got the 911 and F40 Speed Champion sets as my only 2 SC sets, but with the move to 8-wide, those likely are last as well (in scale to City/3-in-1)

Xtra keeps going strong throughout the years , and looks nice in 2020 as well with more plants and sports items.

I'd have to say Creator 3-in-1 still stands out here:
- Deep Sea Creatures + Underwater Robot were great sets, could combine them with City Diving Yacht as well
- Riverside Houseboat and Outback Cabin were nice sets as well but overpriced at full retail €35, but well worth it around €20-25.
- Petshop/Townhouse stands out the most here, even with it's open back design, it has nice interior and exterior space, and the alternate builds were awesome as well, seeing a dentist and barber shop in a minifig set isn't too common.

As for stand-out set outside of 3-in-1 : Emmet's Dream House, a very classic looking house, yet very nice and ability to change it into a spaceship, well worth it if found on a bit of sale.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Having always been a system fan 2019 was the year that I discovered I really like Technic so have mostly bought Technic this year.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Harry Potter has knocked it out of the park for two years running now. Another Burrow and a bigger-than-ever Diagon Alley had better be coming this way in 2020, and if they do, it's gonna be a hat-trick for the theme IMO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For me, it's Hidden Side without a doubt. LEGO Movie 2 and Overwatch handled my sci-fi itch but my horror itch hasn't been fulfilled in a long time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I voted for Ninjago, I've always been a fan but this year they FINALLY introduced tornado-type elements that effectively simulate the "spin" effect when the characters use Spinjitzu. Plus they added the Legacy sets so that newer collectors can get their hands on older sets. Hidden Side is a close second.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Can’t seem to find the Castle button anywhere...oh well, what’s one more year, right?

HP gets my vote. They’ve revived an old theme (crazy that 2001 is now old) and given it new life. At least that’s one positive takeaway from the 2019 lineup of sets.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Speed Champions! This year i started to collect them all and i was really impressed by this theme.

But there have been so many other great sets - Ford Mustang, Lunar Lander, Batmobile, Liebherr Excavator, Expecto Patronum, Rise of Voldemort... but those ara all individual sets.

So i'm looking forward to 2020....

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ninjago took it this year, the Ice chapter sets were great, along with the Land Bounty. Star Wars was good too, hard choice.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Star Wars.
After 20 years, they're still producing some really good stuff, and I loved the 20th Anniversary range this year.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Really? I thought both Superhero lines this year came out with some of their worst sets in a long time (especially Marvel)

Gravatar
By in Italy,

100% of the sets in the Stranger Things theme are AWESOME!!! And this makes it the best theme EVER!!!
But I'll pick another one anyway...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Went for Star wars as its always good, helps to have a new film each year and I have the most of its sets in 2019.

Gravatar

"If TLG comes with a baby Yoda mf, it will make my year in 2020 as well!"

All you need is a bright green carrot top (33183) inside a tan 1x1 round brick (3062)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hidden Side is a great theme, although it's still trying to find its identity. Biggest surprise was the Overwatch theme. I ended up getting every single set (some multiples) even though I've never played nor had interest in the game. The sets are all really, really good!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Ninjago: Ninjago City and Docks are great when put together and really hope that Lego make more of these kind of sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego City for me because of the excellent Space sets!

Gravatar
By in France,

I choose Collectable Minifigures because of the Disney series 2 which was unexpected.
Plus, in 2016 I knew 2019 would be the 80th anniversary of "The Wizard of Oz" movie and I was sure that we would have had a theme "Wizard of Oz" with five sets (like the 5 sets we had for Scooby Doo) but we have had no "Wizard of Oz" theme, so I'm very glad that the characters appear in the TLM series 2 :)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Rough choice this year, so many temptations to the personal key themes:
With Stranger Things, TLG took a risk again to try a new brand and did an awesome job.
The Disney2-, TLM2-, Series19 and the HarryPotter CMFs got the theme close to the top, but with the HarryPotter sets all combining well to one big wizarding world, my vote had to go to Hogwarts.

Would love to be able to worship the Star Wars Theme again, but with the sequel sets not being too attractive for me (Disney's fault for repeated A-, Y- and X-Wings), they did a solid job for years on the rest of the franchise. Thanks TLG for the Tantive IV, cool other OT sets, Zuckuss and adding the Mandalorian in 2019, I know with 40 years of Star Wars and 30 years of Lego Star Wars it's hard to satisfy old and young collectors, but with the return of the Clone Wars, let the golden age of Lego sets rise again!
