What is your favourite minifigure of 2019?

Posted by ,

Nearly 850 minifigures have become available during 2019, encompassing various themes and subject matters. Selecting the most outstanding examples is accordingly difficult.

More than eighty different minifigures, mini-dolls and bigfigs were nominated by Brickset readers. The twenty most popular submissions have been forwarded to this concluding poll. Vote for your favourite minifigure of 2019 after the break.

What is your favourite minifigure of 2019?

Tin Man
Scrooge McDuck
Jack Skellington
Monkey King
Jungle Explorer
Galactic Bounty Hunter
Fox Costume Girl
Batman (1989)
Joker (1989)
Goofy
Iron Man MK1
Akita
Roadhog
Zuckuss
The Mandalorian
Dustin Henderson
Demogorgon
Lenny (Pink Spaceman)
Sweet Mayhem
Harley Quinn (The LEGO Movie 2)

Other minifigures which almost qualified but did not receive quite enough nominations include Battle-Ready Batman, the Gingerbread Woman, the Shower Guy, the Fright Knight and Baby Voldemort.

Cose tie for me between Mando and Joker 1989. Went with mando becuase I just love the helmets

Gravatar
By in Germany,

If you completely leave out personal preference and just look at the production quality, you have to choose Roadhog from this list. The rest are "only" minifigs, but this bigfig is on another level.

It seems that Lenny also links to Demogorgon.

Sweet Mayhem. For lots of reasons. Despite many other deserving minifigures.

Tin Man, a great figure with exdrordanery details.

Totally agree, Roadhog has so much detail and character, great production quality, Lego really raised the bar with this one. Keep it up!

By in United Kingdom,

Too difficult lots of impressive figures in terms of detail and/or accuracy to film characters, but again ive gone to my past and gone for Lenny, Having loved the Red, White, Yellow, Blue, and Black original space figures then remember being very pleased to see a Green one from Lego Ideas.... Pink is a welcome inclusion.....and the fact its very available.... not only in a £200-£300 set.........2020 lets have........... Orange.......

By in Norway,

Even if i should have gone for the Pink spaceman Lenny, since im a classic space guy. I vent or the Monkey King. Hes looking great. He also made me remember the cartoon when i was a kid.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Good to see Akita made the list. It was just different from the vast majority

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I thought the Lenny the pink ‘spaceman’ was Jenny - a spacewoman.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Voted for Zuckuss, but I would have liked to see Bail Organa on the list as he was another notable omission put right this year.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Bittersweet Mayhem.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Scrooge, because it actually generated excitement in me when I saw it. It also got me building displays for it and the triplets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I went with Monkey King for the subject matter and execution but was tempted by 1989 Batman and pink spaceman.

Hopefully, the Batman cowl/cape piece will appear in another, less expensive set. With luck, a future DC CMF.

Jenny is the white one.

By in Sweden,

Voted Lenny - Just because I wonder about the backstory on LEGO HQ about creating the pink classic spaceman... My favorite in 2019 is actually "Jack Davids" from Hidden Side. Mostly because of the hoodie piece and the red jacket and hat. I feel like they created me! My beard don't fit tho.... But in Lego its perfect anyway =)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I voted the Galactic Bounty Hunter as he looks cool! Another one I like is Akita.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Despite me liking many other figs there, I picked Dustin purely for screen accuracy. The most accurate live-action actor to minifig translation ever!

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

I think most of these Minifigures are great, but getting a new Classic Space Minifig in Pink is the best in my opinion. Vote 4 Lenny!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Jungle Explorer. It’s not the Johnny Thunder we need, but the one we deserve right now

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I don't collect CMF (can't find them in stores and I don't buy blind bags online or pay extra on the second-market)

So Lenny remains as non-licensed here.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Next year's winner: baby Yoda

I voted for Akita because she looked awesome but I was surprised that Bail wasn't there.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Akita looks rather impressive and takes my vote. Now to pick up her set during January sales and GWP time.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Scrooge. I hope for rest of Ducks in future.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I nominated Bachelor Batman as one of my favorites, but either the 1989 or Battle-Ready versions were vote worthy. And happy to see that so many of the Series 19 Collectible Minifigures are included in the final list; that group has been one of the best ever. But I have to stick with the choice that I bought an entire set just to have the minifigure - The Mandalorian.

And I have to agree with mkrey^^^; baby Yoda already has a huge leg up for next year.

A bit OT, but I’ll see your baby Yoda and raise you a Babu Frik ;~)

Gravatar
By in Spain,

My vote is for Zuckuss. We needed him (or her or it?) to complete the galactic scum meeting in Episode V...20 years waiting!!!

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

1st - Sweet Mayhem
2nd - Pink Spaceman
3rd - Demogorgon
4th - 1989 Batman

Gravatar
By in Italy,

As the Monkey King is the only survivor from my list, I gave him my vote. Is is a pity to don't see Widowmaker or D.va in the list: I'm not an Overwatch fan, but the minifigures are fantastic.

Lenny is surely my favourite in the list, but it is a matter of nostalgia not regarding minifigure's quality. A bit tempted to vote the [blacktron] Galactic Bounty Hunter, but half of my motivation is nostalgia-related too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Apocalypseburg Harley Quinn. A fantastically detailed minifig, and since I’m a fan of Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the character, she’s probably my 1 fig of the year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@CapnRex101: Will the results of all three polls be posted then in a single article? Just curious.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Lenny, hands down.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

Voted for the comeback of the classic Johny Thunder aka Jungle Explorer!
Old is still gold mates!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Demogorgon is just so freaky looking in the show and it's Lego form that I can't pass up voting for it as my favorite. Ironically I don't watch the show and I don't have the set, but the figure is unforgettable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Voted Scrooge. Just a perfect, elegant figure.

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

I don´ t like anyone of them.

Gravatar

Akita absolutely.

Lenny. Hands down.

Both Baby Frik and The Child need to be in LEGO sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One of the few minifigs on that list I own, I had to vote for MK I. There's just so much detail, plus it's been wanted for so long. I do find it funny how the least detailed fig is top of the list though :)

Gravatar
By in Ukraine,

Chose Lenora, the pink space (wo)man. My daughter got Classic space fever when she came along. She switched to a more feminine head, but it was a teachable moment about how the old minifigs all had the same heads in the good old days.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I voted for Roadhog since i feel that the Overwatch minifigures made the most impact this year.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

They're all awesome. But I voted for good old Lenny.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

So next year the pink ninja will win?

I really miss Ross and Chandler from this list. I think those two are Dustin quality lvl.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I voted for Sweet Mayhem, with Roadhog taking second place.

Not only are they great designs but they push the technical limits of what figs can be, and made me more interested in Big Figs and minidolls.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Since Apocalypse Abe didn't make the list but Monkey King did, I voted for Monkey King. Very detailed figure, but more importantly, very unexpected/unique figure which made it a nice surprise for the CMF line

Gravatar
By in United States,

I went with Batman because of the cape. I really wish in the future they make all the capes out of rubber. cloth are ok but collect so much dust. the hard fabric ones I just don't like.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

For those of us old enough to appreciate him, it’s gotta be Johnny Thunder, boyos. Maybe he’ll make a triumphant return someday.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don’t happen to own any of these minifigures, but because I actually know who this is, I went with Iron Man MK 1. Yes, I know, I’m an uncultured swine.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I voted for goofy because as a Disney dork that was a long time coming. There wasn’t a bad one in that lust though. I really liked Scrooge, Batman 89 you can’t go wrong with, and I’m excited for more mando sets

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lenny the Pink Spaceman. Classic Space. The original. The best.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Johnny Thun- I mean "Jungle Explorer"! <3

Gravatar
By in United States,

Demogorgon: Originality of Minifigure. Some of my favorites were omitted.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Tough choice here. I had to go with the Dustin minifig since he looks a lot like the character, but not to point where it just looks like a $60 custom figure. I wish I could vote for more than one: the Demogorgon, Roadhog, and Batman ‘89 are spot on (I’ll admit I’m a huge Stranger Things, Overwatch, and Batman nut but still). I have the Fox Costume Girl (not Akita, the one literally called “Fox Costume Girl”) and don’t see what’s so special. Johnny Thunder would’ve also been a great pick (I wanted him as much as the gamer fig).
@Calabar
I have the Widowmaker and D.va figures (haven’t built the set for the latter) and they’re pretty amazing. Not gonna express my thoughts any further because I’m a bit biased.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I’m loving The Mandalorian show, so I knew that figure was my pick. I was also close to choosing Lenny or the Demogorgon and it’s great to see Zuckuss and Goofy at last.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My real favorite was Duplo Figure Lego Ville, Child Girl, Medium from 10907-1: World Animals
but as that wasn't an option I went with Mando ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

It was a close call between Tin Man and Jack Skellington. Both have entirely exclusive pieces, come in the CMF line, and are from themes that don't have sets in which to otherwise acquire them. I chose Jack base on his bow tie being of no other use to LEGO in yet they still made it. Also, the gorgeously printed gift box with matching lid and two unique snowflake prints made him the top pick easily.

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

SWEET MAYHEM!

A great non-licensed original minifigure! My first minidoll!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Honestly, I've not voted at all. The news that LEGO have (are) increasing the cost of a pack of the CMF series to £3.49 each means I will no longer collect CMF. As minifigures are at the core of my purchasing habits and perpetuate interest in the hobby, this price increase is likely to kill most impulse set purchases aswell. £3.49 each is about £1.20 more per figure than I am willing/able to pay. Given the scrabble it is to get figures once reduced I don't see me collecting CMF at a discount either. Extremely disappointed that LEGO seemingly listened to fan feedback then changed their mind on this issue.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Of these, the Jungle Explorer is my top pick.

It definitely hurt the wallet trying to pick up some of those new DC figures. It will make me re-evaluate how much I really care about them before purchasing. Exactly, no impule buys anymore. No army building anymore. Grab a few favorites and move on. Maybe this is my being bitter, but I hope this price increase kills the CMF market. But I know plenty of people will continue to buy them and it will be fine.

As for this topic, I voted Galactic Space guy. Thanks to the user with the side by side pictures. Made the vote a lot easier. Granted, I wouldn't say any of those figures would be my favorite, so who knows.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Demogorgon does a super job of capturing a difficult concept in mini-figure form. A close runner up was Akita with Tin Man a determined finisher in show, and Batman 1989 also in the money. Wonderful range of choices all around!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I decided to go with the Tin Man

By in United Kingdom,

I just loved the design of Sweet Mayhem, her hair, helmet and accesories for the wings are just amazing! Although I am quite fond with Joker and Batman 1989 however I don't have the Batmobile, so cannot have hands-on experience on the two.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Sweet Mayhem a Minidoll NOT a Minifig? Same for the Big figs? Not hating but just seems weird to ask for favorite Minifg then see these....

I’m also not best pleased about the price increase and will be getting fewer extras in future (I only buy selected minifigures anyway). But I’m pretty sure AFOLs account for a small slice of the CMF market. The vast majority are likely kids or adults (parents, grandparents etc) buying for kids. And for them, as they only purchase a few each, a small unit price increase is not a deterrent.

@deejdave said:

Technically, you are correct. Brickset, though, lumps all figures together into one category called ‘minifigures’ regardless of whether they really are minifigures or are minidolls, bigfigs, microfigs, unarticulated figures (e.g. Baby Voldemort), non-anthropomorphic androids (e.g. R2-D2) or even brick-built figures.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If there’s a space minifig in any kind of poll people will go crazy for it. Pretty much all the other figs are better and more interesting designs. I went for Harley Quinn as I actually quite liked Suicide Squad and the whole getup is perfect. I don’t much care for Overwatch but that is a fantastic Roadhog Bigfig.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When I heard the rumor that a Roadhog set was coming, I had certain expectations for what his bigfig might look like. It exceeded them. Bigfigs had lagged behind minifigs in terms of detail, and had too much of a "kiddie" aesthetic for me. Roadhog captured more shapes, details, and colors than I had expected. The big stomach tattoo, the license plate belt, the straps (And the little buttons and patches on them), shoulder pads, boot spike, etc. It had all the relevant aspects of his aesthetic and set a new high bar for an entire category of figures. It gets my vote.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Monkey King is a first for cultural significance, as it originates from Chinese folklore, and it's beautifully detailed. :)

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

My favourites are as usual, not on the list. This year LEGO has been good to me, making some minfigs I really like:

- sc078 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 Driver
- hp182 Minister of Magic (Cornelius Fudge)
- hp193 Ernie Prang, Prisoner of Azkaban
- tlm159 Gone Golfin' President Business

Fox Costume Girl is my fave because whether Lego admits it or not, they made a "furry" with that minifig.

Yeah, but I think even parents and grand parents (and especially kids) will have a hard time justifying 5 USD (or 3.49 EUR) for one figure, and a mystery figure to boot. At 1.99 USD these were perfect 'impulse buys' at a register (which is how LEGO originally saw them when series 1 was envisioned), but at the price they are at now? I do not see it. I love the CMF series as a whole and am hard pressed to give up on getting a set (as I am a completionist) but at the new price they are really reaching and I think you will see a decrease in sales and not just from AFOLs. Heck any store that also has polys will deter people from buying a CMF pack at that price, if a poly (complete with a small build and figure) is the same cost.

False. That statement lacks an understanding of art, pop culture, science, math, and creativity.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@The_Byzantine_Knight:
I was planning to vote for Batman, even though I hate the cape. Don't get me wrong, the _cowl_ is great, but the fact that it's fused to a cape that is permanently billowing in the wind just limits what you can do with that minifig _SOOOOOOO_ much. I might take a close look at it some time and see if it's possible to cleanly chop the cape off and replace it with a cloth one.

Anyways, I ended up voting for Harley Quinn. I actually watched her first appearance live. I thought she was an existing character at the time, but later found out she'd been created for Batman: The Animated Series. They had a scene where Joker needed to push a cake into the room before jumping out of it, and they decided to just make a throwaway, one-shot character so the scene would actually work. Fast forward a few decades, and she's now probably one of the five most popular comic book characters. So the fact that they released a minifig based on her appearance in an R-rated movie, and it was _NOT_ an SDCC exclusive, is a pretty big win in my book.

Gravatar
By in France,

I was choosing Scrooge McDuck but even if I love the character, I still think his hat is too small.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I voted Zuckass as that molded head was phenomenal

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the Akita figure. Great headgear and bold white-red unique cape.
Runners up for me: Jack Skellington (very striking in person) and the Tin-Man (nice pearl silver and design really capture this nostalgic look).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Although the Jungle Explorer is well done, nothing beats the Tiun Man for excellent perfection.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm happy my nomination got through :) Iron Man MK 1!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ahaaha, where's the Overwatch minifigures? I don't play the game, but those are like some of the best LEGO has ever put out! At least put DVA and/or Tracer on the list... Roadhog is cool, but those two are far more popular.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Its a very tough vote. So many good figures this year. I love Akita, which, let's face it, is San from Princess Mononoke. I also love the Galactic Bounty Hunter because I want an updated Blacktron theme to come back, and this shows what can be done. Dustin, Scrooge, and Sweet Mayhem were also in the running. But I went with Akita. Such a cool figure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Sweet Mayhem

Gravatar
By in United States,

Heavy on licensed themes - 1989 Batman was my choice. For in-house themes, there's got to be some love for Captain Jonas (from the Hidden Side Wrecked Shrimp boat) for the introduction of the new sou'wester hat alone.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

All time favorite Jack Skellington

Gravatar

Scrooge McDuck is about near perfect. . . so he has my vote (now get me a Launchpad!).

Also, if there was a Baby Yoda . . . that would probably be an easy winner . . . maybe next year?

Gravatar

Space Bounty Hunter is the only one currently on my work desk.
