Brickset site enhancements
Posted by Huw,I have made a few changes to the site today, mostly in response to user feedback:
- You can now change the colours used for own, want and the collection flags
- You can now change the number of articles shown on the home page
- You can opt to share your owned and wanted lists separately
- Feedback is now provided when changing owned quantity
- Links to LEGO.com in DK/FI/SE/NO are now monetised
- Prices of sets in many European countries have been added
- Rebrickable sync can now be disabled
- Brickshelf/Flickr etc. URLs have been removed from user profiles
Find out more after the break.
Change the colours used for own, want and the collection flags
The default colours of green and orange for owned and wanted can be changed to anything you like on your profile > preferences page. The colours of the additional collection checkboxes can also be changed there, too.
The colour picker uses a dialog box provided by your phone or PC operating system, so it works better on some than others. It works well on PC and iOS: not so well on Android, although it's perfectly serviceable.
This was requested by someone who is colour-blind but it might be useful for all.

Change the number of articles shown on the home page
The default is 8. If you want to see fewer or more, you can change the number shown on your profile > preferences page.

Opt to share your owned and wanted lists separately
Previously there was one setting that allowed you to share your owned and wanted lists with others. There are now two, so sharing them can be set separately. You'll find the setting on your profile edit page.

Rebrickable sync can now be disabled
If you want to break the link between here and Rebrickable so changes made to your collection here are no longer copied across to the latter, follow the instructions on your profile edit page.
Brickshelf/Flickr etc. URLs removed from profile
Previously, you could enter URLs of your Brickshelf, Flickr, MOCPages etc. in your profile, which would then be shown on your profile page.
These have now been removed because (a) half of those sites are now obsolete and (b) spammers were joining the site just to use them for junk links.
Feedback when changing owned quantity
When you click the owned/wanted checkboxes the colour changes after a response has been received from the server, so you know that your change have been saved. There was no confirmation when altering the quantity you own so you could not be sure that your change had been saved. Now, the quantity is made bold once the server has responded.

Links to LEGO.com in DK/FI/SE/NO are now monetised
We've signed up to LEGO's affiliate programmes for Scandinavian countries, so we can now earn a small commission when those of you in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland use our links to LEGO.com.
Prices of sets in many European countries added
We are importing LEGO's product feeds for US/CA/UK/DE/FR, as before, and also now AT/BE/CH/DK and NL. This means we can now show prices for products in those countries too. You'll find a link to a box like that below next to the US/UK/DE prices in the set listings.
The feeds for FI, NO and SE are currently empty, but should they become populated then we will import them, too.
Unfortunately, before you ask, LEGO does not operate an affiliate scheme in Australia...

I hope you find at least some of the changes useful. If you have any suggestions for customising the site, let me know in the comments.

Thanks. The feedback on quantity changed is indeed helpful.
Great news. Thank you Huw.
Good to read that local prices on the set detail pages will return. Just wondering — sets from years ~2012 until 2018 showed about 23 local prices. Then, 2019 sets mostly only showed prices for those 5 big countries.
Where did prices then come from for those sets two (or more) years ago? Did LEGO remove them from their feeds during 2019 and now have re-added?
We were able to scrape LEGO.com to obtain the prices for every country but the page we used to load to do so was removed a year or so ago it was no longer possible.
With regards to removing profile links, I'd be curious to know what sites *arent* obsolete, because I feel like every potential option has some massive glaring problems. What are people actually using these days?
Just wondering, when will the minifigs section for early 2020 sets be updated? Quite a few of the Marvel sets in particular are missing minifig profiles.
We are reliant on BrickLink for our minifig information so once the sets have been inventoried over there the minifgs in them will appear here.

For sharing MOCs, pretty much only Flickr and Rebrickable.

and Instagram (with it's viewing flaws)
Love things like changing the colours of flags, it just makes it a bit more fun. I would say they are not that easy to find how to change, an option under Sets flagged might get used more. Also as you cant enter values and as there are no set colours it seems impossible to make two boxes the same colour.
A shame about my Flickr page being remoced from my profile but, onwards!!!
@SMC , it uses your operating system's colour picker, which on Windows 10 works fine. You can pick a standard colour, any colour from the swatch or enter RGB values
What are you using?
I've just tried on Android and while it's not great, it does work. If it's troublesome on many OSs I'll use a javascript library.
Update: I've just seen it on a iOS phone, and on that it works well.
A side effect of the relatively brief list of new articles on the front page is it makes it harder to catch up with the site if you are not a daily visitor - as soon as you click on a link, and then go back, all of the later articles have vanished again, so you need to continually scroll down, load more articles, and repeat. Is there some javascript that could be used to maintain the number of loaded articles, so it's preserved and restored when you use the back button? I'm pretty sure I've seen some sites that do this, so I think it's possible. But anyway, keep up the amazing work!
^ That's a known bug that's been there since 2014. I don't have a fix :)
^ Thanks for the reply! And also I realise I misunderstood your announcement above - I thought you meant you had changed the number of articles shown on the homepage by default... but what you mean is that you've added an option to CONFIGURE the number of articles on the homepage. Which is absolutely fantastic, and completely solves (for me at least) the issue I had anyway. :) Perhaps it's worth making that more explicit in your announcement? (FWIW, I also misunderstood what you said about colours - I thought you meant you'd changed the defaults of those too, until I read the comments)
Huw
Do you can put the prices for Spain and Portugal too?
Thank you
Solid updates - thanks Huw!
Nice updated! Great work!
Another feature I miss (and I tried reporting it in, but your form crashed) is that in the bricklist creation there is a button to sort the entries by date - would it be possible to have an option to reverse it (so the newest sets come first)?

Yes -- I hope to be able to. I'm just waiting to be accepted onto the affiliate schemes for ES, PT and IT.
Please add the option to select separate nanofigs or bigfogs owned
Thanks, Huw.
Would it be possible to change the name of the additional collection checkboxes from "Flag 1", "Flag 2" etc. to something individual?
^ You can already do that. Go to 'Collection checkboxes' on the right-hand side of the Your Profile page. (Although it still shows as 'Flag 1' etc on the configuration page, it will show as the chosen name elsewhere)
^ Correct, thanks.
Any chance to get more individual flags somewhen in future?
That feature is so useful to me ... but 4 flags are too little for what i'm doing with them unfortunately.
Currently i'm using combinations of the flags to get more substates (like 0000, 0001, 0011, 0100, 0101, 1000, 1001, ...) but as you can clearly see: that's a pain :-)

Or just try opening links in a new browser tab. That's the quick fix I've been doing to keep that issue from happening to me.

Take a look at BricKLists: they might provide a viable and easier to use alternative.
Thanks Huw!
None of these updates helps or affects me at all but thanks for the work...
Yay for Nordic support as well, good of LEGO to share a few crumbs :)
@huw Is The affiliate program for Belgian lego.com store active as well?
@Huw Thanks I didn't know it used operating system's colour picker, all good on chrome, was trying in work on old internet explorer.
It is a shame URLs for Flickr and other sites got removed. Due to ... spam? Nonsense. Never had this issue nor heard any of LUG members to complain about it. So if there were affected by spam, the reason for those probably weren't Brickset related and had other sources.
Thank you for the enhancements, Huw!

Yes, and NL.
Hi Huw, any chance of adding Ireland to the prices too, I’m not sure if our 23% VAT rate makes any change to the final pricing from Lego
LEGO does not operate an affiliate scheme in Ireland, I'm afraid.
Wheres the changes that allows us to see MORE Clickits and LESS Lego Masters....

That’s a shame, but unsurprising seeing as we don’t even have a Lego brand store over here.
Thanks for an invaluable site! I'm here 5 days a week.
my only lego link was to Flickr
As always I thank you @Huw for all your work!
I have a non-commercial website with my works. Like a portfolio. I don't seek publicity and I don't even use Instagram, Facebook or a YouTube channel.
It is your website and your rules, but is just strange not to be able to show some of your works on a LEGO fan's website.
I never entered in the last years on LEGO Ideas and I never will as long as I live because I received a notification from them when I contacted a guy in a comment about our common love for architecture. After this their automatic hook spammed me for a year with a BIG LIE that "people are following your MOC's" but I never had a MOC posted on Ideas. Shame on them.
I will still remain here because of your daily work but it's a pity not to see people's pages if they are on good intentions.
Very nice changes, Huw. However, when I changed my "own" and "want" colors, my owned and wanted lists will no longer load. I hope this is temporary, is anyone else experiencing this?
^ That sounds odd. Use the contact form below to get in touch then send some screenshots that show what's going on.
what exactly is the acceptable protocol for sending suggestions for database augmentations? Is there a user guide or some such I can read?

I just let it sit for a few hours and it started working again, thank you!
I don't know when it happened, but I would like to say thanks for giving me the ability to now add more than 99 of a set as an owned quantity. Some of the bulk polybag buys can now be tracked properly!
***edit*** I posted too early. I can now enter a number larger than 99, but it won't retain the new quantity. I look forward to it being increased one day.

Get i touch using the contact form then Chris or I will reply.
Thanks for all of the improvements!
Thank you @Huw for all the improvements, I love the option to change the color of my flags
Regards.-
Could you please change it so one can add a specific number/amount to the wanted quantity?
Thanks!
It's a shame you couldn't do something about all of the pop ups and adverts that the site generates, that have made the page(s) a nightmare to navigate. I clicked on two pop ups alone (that for some reason, my blocker won't get rid of) just trying to log on. All of the above are the reasons why I no longer visit this page unless I'm truly lost for something to do!!!
