HoverfrogFilms makes an unusual choice for today's featured set:

A set that is significant to me is 852856 LEGO Club Max Key Chain.

I loved getting the Lego Club magazines as a kid. I looked forward to every issue and seeing what new sets would be shown in it! (This is before I knew about Brickset!). I was really excited when the issues featuring the Atlantis sets came out. Not only were the sets cool, I enjoyed looking at all the 3D images through the free 3D glasses that came with the magazine.

My favourite issue though was one of the summer issues that included a DVD featuring a bunch of videos from different Lego themes. I became really inspired by the stop-motion animated ones, such as the Adventures of Max series! Because of the Lego Club and that DVD I started Brickfilming (Stop-motion animation with Lego bricks). It has become a major passion of mine and something that has driven my love of Lego.

Soon after my dad got me the Max keychain when we were visiting a Lego store to inspire my newfound passion. Years later (about 1 year ago) I purchased another one from a Legoland Discovery Centre and it now has a prominent place on display to remind me of my childhood and inspiration.

This little fella may mean a lot to some, but his face is terrifying...

I loved that Lego Club disk. I still have it somewhere... That has so many memories attached to it.

Ha, this is definitely a unique set to write about!

that face. He has killed and will kill again.

The original Max design would be a great CMF. He would need a mold for his hat/hair but could have dual-molded and printed arms.

I miss the classic Lego Club Max. I wish they would bring him back.

This face looks unfortunatelly like counterfreit Lego minifigure:/ what went wrong there..?

Huh, that must have been just after I stopped getting the Lego Club magazines myself; because I remember the Atlantis issue with the 3D glasses, but must have jumped out before the DVD issue came around. Really cool that they included a DVD with later issues, though! :o

Speaking of Lego Club magazine? Did anyone else have the thing where Lego sometimes seemed to miss them off the mailing list? I had that happen to me two different times as a teen, where the magazine simply didn't show up; but on the plus side, each time we contacted Lego they not only sent me a replacement, but they included a free keychain with it to make up for the mistake! I got the ones of the cowboy ( 3974 ) and Takeshi ( 4299934 ), respectively, that way - which was pretty nice of them :D

Think I have the non-keychain version of this guy somewhere. He was a polybag maybe?

I didn't know they actually made this minifigure, I'm not too bothered by the face, it seems to be in the same style the Exo Force minifigures were designed in.

Ugh. I ended up totaling my car because I stopped to pick up three of these on the way out of Chicago.

@Jack_Rizzo:
Yes, they did a polybag. I've got him driving one of my cars, actually. I think I bought one off Bricklink, because I'm pretty sure I didn't get one with any magazine. The keychains I picked up because they were _supposed_ to be cheaper than buying a bunch of polybags just to get the cargo pants. I figured I could pop the legs off and put them on regular tan hips. And I stole the hair off one of the keychains to put on my minifig flash drive (the basic male is bald).

Got it just for the figure. Max from Lego Magazine is my childhood.

By in Hungary,

It's really sad that the LEGO Club Magazine never released in my country... There were so many cool things in it that I completely missed out on...

I’m sleeping with one eye open tonight because of that image.

Made my day to see people like my unusual featured set! :) It is cool to see that the Lego Club was special for lots of other people too!

This set was actually my first LEGO keychain. I got it hoping to swap out it's hair piece for one of Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker's since I couldn't find the pollybag cheap. Little did I know the hair was glued/screwed on! So in my little LEGO world Max had this giant chain sticking out of his head that trailed behind him and everyone just kinda ignored it.

@GSR_MataNui:
If the goal was to get the Max hair (which in that color was unique to that minifig at the time, and is still pretty rare ten years later), then, like the keychain minifig, you're pretty much screwed. If the goal was to put a different hairpiece on the keychain to make a viable minifig, that's a little easier. I've read "how-to" articles about using hot water to soften up the plastic so you could pull the stem free, but I've found the simplest method is to just give the loop at the top a sharp snap and break it right off. Once you do that, the head can be removed, and you can snap the stem right at the top of the neck post so you don't need to deal with it anymore.
