Featured set of the day: Imperial Trooper Battle Pack

Posted by ,

Today's set has been selected by TheWackyWookiee.

Every set I own, either on display or in the part bins, all have an interesting story behind them. So it’s naturally hard to list just one which has had the biggest impact on me. However, my mind usually drifts to 75165 Imperial Trooper Battle Pack as one of my most influential sets.

Here’s the story behind it...

Like most of the new Star Wars movies (which is my favourite film franchise by the way), I saw Rogue One on opening day. We were at the beach that time but I managed to convince my dad to take me to the small town cinema to watch it. He eventually agreed, so we went to see it when the weather wasn’t at its best. I loved the film, but I won’t go into too much detail. That’s a story for another time.

Anyway, at this point I was in my dark age. I hadn’t brought any Lego for nearly two years and I would usually ask for just one Star Wars set, if any, for my birthday or Christmas. But after seeing Rogue One, something about the sets really fascinated me. Maybe it was the minifigures, accuracy, detail or excellent designs, but I asked for some of them that Christmas and received:75152 and 75153 AT-ST Walker.

So, where does this set come into this? Well, my grandparents gave me and my brothers some holiday money so we went to Big W to spend it (Big W is an Australian department store). Anyway, I found myself in the Lego section, wondering if I can get another Rogue One set. 75165 Imperial Trooper Battle Pack was there, having just been released, so I picked it up. This was the first set that I had brought since 2014. My Dark Age was finally over.

While the story and nostalgia are the best parts of the set, it’s contents are fantastic. The Death Troopers, which I loved the look of in the film, are both great, but it had been a long time since we saw ‘regular’ Imperial Stormtroopers in a Battle Pack. Even today, I use all four of these figures in my Star Wars diorama MOCs. The build, while not great, is also one of the stronger builds of the many Battle Packs that Lego has produced. These factors make it my favourite Star Wars Battle Pack of all time, but the story behind the set gives it extra points.

Just a great set -- that’s all I can say!

I figures are all fantastic. The build is jus ok to me, but not terrible!

I agree, I love the rogue one sets and the movie. I wish I had gotten a few more of this set.

Wait what?? There was a battle pack with the best stormtrooper design from 2014?! Without the stupid new helmet mold? I was aware of the Rebels, one, but those stormtroopers have the "cartoony" design! I need at least one of these... or not. It's super overpriced.

By in Puerto Rico,

I only have one of the lead BP and pretty much the entire RO sub theme mimus the Micro Ships (I bought two micro Tie Striekers) and it's a fairly accurate set. I didn't bought more than one of this as it isn't good for Army Builfing like the Solo set where every pack can be a squad in itself. LEGO still needs to expand the missing SW sets from this and other recent materials like: AT-ATC, OT Tie Bomber, OT Imperial SD and more.

One of my favourites, because of the death troopers. I recently bought another one and I was really happy that I got it for regular price.

Yes, one of the better battle packs IMO, just because I think that funny little walker is actually a pretty great design

This set was pretty good, but the death troopers aren't as good as the ones in Krennic's Shuttle and you only need so many of them.

Rogue One was actually the last straw for me to get out of my Dark Ages; seeing the U-Wing on-screen was incredible, and I knew I had to get a LEGO model of it!

Unfortunately, I never picked up this battle pack because the build looked so underwhelming, now I'm kicking myself for not getting it since it has 2 of the best OT stormtrooper minifigs that LEGO has released so far. In retrospect, Rogue One had 2 of the best battle Packs to come from LEGO; luckily I picked up the Rebel Trooper battle pack and that has been among my favorite battle packs.

I'm still waiting for the Hammerhead Corvette.

By in Turkey,

I was never into building figure army, but I get one of these sets every now and then if the content appeals to me.

Shame there's nothing special about Death Troopers other than their looks. Their shots are as inaccurate as regular stormtroopers and they can be easily killed like regular stormtroopers.

Thanks for all the comments! Good to see that I’m also not the only one who loved Rogue One (it might be my favourite Star Wars film after ESB).

@QwikBrix I can relate, though I never got the Rebel Trooper BP or U-Wing. Both of them are pretty good sets, though.

@Judgeguy Well, if you consider that Krennic’s Shuttle was the largest set of the first wave, it’s good to see Lego feature some in a Battle Pack for fans on a budget.
