Meet a member: iv_lego
Posted by MeganL,Today's featured Brickset member is Inez, aka iv_lego, a lawyer from Manila, Philippines. She celebrated her birthday a couple of days ago, and has the coolest name for a cat I've seen in a while.
What is your first LEGO memory?
My sister’s then-boyfriend gave her a Lego pirate ship but she didn’t have the patience to build it. So I built it for her I think I was around 15 at that time.
Did you have a dark age and if so what caused you to emerge from it?
I only got into Lego when I got older because lego is rather expensive in Manila. As a kid, I couldn’t afford it. As a young lawyer, I still couldn’t afford it! I started at age 30 and haven’t really had any dark ages since.
Which set or theme has been most influential upon you, as a LEGO fan?
Definitely the Castle line! I’m a big Harry Potter and LOTR fan, so I just naturally gravitated to the Castle line.
What are you building right now?
I got 10767 Duke Caboom’s Stunt Show as a birthday gift so I’m building that. I think my friend got it for me because I love Keanu.
I store them in drawers sorted according to part (mixed colours in the same drawer). But if I have a lot of the same part in different colours, I would sort it by colour too.
Do you build MOCs?
Yes. Mostly I build plants or landscapes. I made a series of flowers unique to the Philippines and I’m always trying to add to my flower collection. The picture at the top is of me with my Philippine flower at JBF in 2019. But I’ll build whatever strikes my fancy (or whatever challenge my local LUG has got going)
What is your favourite part?
1x2 plates and studs. You can just do SO MUCH with these parts!
What set/theme would you like LEGO to produce?
Re-issue the Castle line pretty pretty please?!?! In the HP line, please release an updated 4840 Burrow!
Do you have a presence on Instagram, YouTube or elsewhere?
I have an Instagram account @iv_lego
What is the availability of LEGO like where you live?
LEGO is widely available in Metro Manila, in the department stores and at the Lego Certified Stores.
Do you have any interests or hobbies other than LEGO?
I love to read! Mostly fantasy and YA. I also started writing stories about the adventures of my cat, Glenny Kravitz.
How long have you been visiting Brickset?
Since I started as an AFOL in 2012 and been a member since 2018
What's your favourite/most used feature of the site?
I love that it helps me keep track of my sets! I really need to update it, though.
Are you a member of a LUG?
I'm a proud member of the Philippine Lego Users Group
Have you been to a LEGO event?
Locally, we have ABRICKadabra, which is PhLUG’s biggest display event. I went to the Japan Brick Festival in Kobe in 2018 and 2019. It was awesome seeing all the MOCs, many of which I’ve admired in various Lego sites and Flickr! It was also great meeting AFOLs all over Asia and other countries like Australia and the US. I met Alice Finch at 2019 JBF and that’s how I joined the Women’s Brick Initiative.
Thanks, Inez! Would you like to be next? Please get in touch with us!

Awesome. My wife agrees with you about re-releasing the Castle theme. Glad that you embrace this hobby as an adult and find it so enjoyable, just like so many other successful professional adults.
Those flowers are very creative. They're fantastic and almost fantastical from a northern hemisphere perspective. Thanks!
You’d never see those flowers in Britain!
I saw your display at last year's Brickfest in Kobe! Great to see you on here!
@mdonahue7 Lego is such a great stress reliever, especially because my job is so stressful! The higher the stress, the more I build ?? also, YAY more castle supporters ??
@mfg3000 Thank you! ?? I’m happy you like them!
@backtobricks I really really really hope we will get a reissued Burrow soon!
@Slobrojoe I’m happy I am able to share them with you :)
@anthony_boccia oh great! Hope to see you at the next JBF :)
There are rumors of a new Burrow set for later this year
Absolutely 2nd-ing this feeling! I feel it gives a more personal touch, that you can connect better with the fans of LEGO, all around the world & feel like you’re part of a community.

"I'm loving these use interviews. It's so interesting to see everyone's interests and different approaches. I think you may find you get a new Burrow set very soon. :)"
I'm really liking this interviews. They show no matter where we are on the world, there is a lot we all have in common. It truly highlights the phrase: 'LEGO community'.
Alice Finch is responsible for that massive Rivendell, yes?
Just adding my support for these interviews. It's delightful to see the variety of LEGO aficionados and their backgrounds. I can't imagine Ole Christiansen had any idea the impact is little toy enterprise would have on the entire world and across generations.
It's a beautiful thing.
Enjoying these articles, but is it possible to allow us to see their collections? Assuming they are public and are happy to do so.
Just looking at the photo used for this article and I could immediately identify the infamous Rafflesia without looking at the info card. Now that's how you know you made a good model.
Happy belated birthday, Inez!

Yes, she is, together with David Frank. She's also pretty famous for Hogwarts Castle with 400,000++ pieces :D
Hi @Virgilnz! If you go into the profile page of any Brickset member, you'll see a link that says "View username's Collection". It's right under "Contact". Hope that helps :)
Congratulations @iv_lego for your beautiful flowers and especially for the elegant way you display them!
I am also for Castle, Pirates, Western.
I really don’t understand this LEGO thinking. Grownups love it and are eager for re-release. Kids don’t know about them, but kids will like what we give them to like, we must educate them with the real human race history.
I am not against fantasy, but fantasy must be an addition of the real life stories to make you dream, and not a replacement for reality. Kids know more about fantasy than our real history and unfortunately in the case of a big disaster it is more likely our society to return to Castle, Pirates or Western than to ever meet a fantasy character.
In this era of fake news, it would be better to be able to differentiate in kids fresh minds between reality and fantasy.
A big thank you for Brickset initiative to present such nice members!

Unfortunately on your own profile page, you, @iv_lego have no "Contact" option or "View Collection" or "Sets wanted".
So "that helps" only if that can be seen.
Didn't realise the user has to turn it on (under the settings). So mine is on now. Thanks for the heads up!
