Meet a member: superteo
Posted by Huw,Today we are interviewing Matteo, aka superteo, student in Como, Italy.
What is your first LEGO memory?
I had some DUPLO sets from the Bob The Builder theme but the strongest memory is playing with a 1252 Shell Tanker that my parents brought me form a petrol station in Switzerland. I strongly remember playing with it together with my grandma. We had great time together with that tiny but great set.
Did you have a dark age and if so what caused you to emerge from it?
Fortunately I didn’t, and I hope it will never come.
Do you build MOCs? If, so what?
Yes, I love building things that don’t exist as official sets. My most recent MOC is made of about 30.000 pieces and represents the Baradello Castle, a castle located in Como, Italy: when you visit it you can see the entire city of Como and the amazing lake from its top.
I’ve built it from scratch in 2 years, for a total of 70 hours, designing it with LEGO Digital Designer & Studio and about 80 hours of manual work with the pieces, spread in 1 week time to take it to an exhibition. I’ve also built the model of my high school and one of a city park with a working fountain using the pneumatic system from LEGO Technic.
Do you have a favourite part?
I really love discovering new pieces that the designers put into the sets, and there are lots of pieces to choose from. To say it frankly I’d choose the 1x2 Masonry brick as the part that I love the most, as it adds dynamism to the flat walls
What theme would you like LEGO to produce?
I really love trains and, someday, I hope to own them all. I’d like for LEGO to re-release some of the most iconic ones, but considering the amount of retired moulds I think it is almost impossible for them to recreate those beauties from the 80’s.
What is your favourite official LEGO Set?
My favourite set is the 10194 Emerald Night. It is a real masterpiece!. Unfortunately LEGO doesn’t sell individual coaches for it so it is very expensive to create more of them to make it more realistic.
The second most favourite is actually my first set, the 1252 Shell Tanker, of which I own 3 copies. One is my original copy, the other is MISB and the other one is built but in perfect conditions.
How do you store your LEGO?
I use the drawer units from LIDL for smaller pieces like 1x1s and mining accessories. For bigger pieces or big quantity ones I use IKEA’s SAMLA boxes. They are cheap, durable and stackable
What is the availability of LEGO like where you live?
Here in Italy we have both LEGO certified stores and LEGO.com I prefer the second one because earns you VIP points.
How long have you been visiting Brickset?
I am a member since 2015 but I discovered the site in 2013-ish
What's your favourite/most used feature of the site?
I really love the ability to create an inventory of my sets, so when I buy something I can always check If I already own it or not. It saves me A LOT of time and money.
Do you have any interests or hobbies other than LEGO?
I like travelling, especially in countries or cities that have a LEGO Store, to complete the collection of stamps in the passport.
Are you a member of a LUG?
I’m a proud member of ItLUG , the oldest LEGO user group in Italy
Do you have a presence on Instagram, YouTube or elsewhere?
Yes, you can find my MOCs and other LEGO related posts on my Facebook Page and on Flickr.
Thanks Matteo!

I just made a MOC of Lake Como in the style of the Architecture Skyline series. Love the place!
I love these interviews. I'm with you on the return of trains; bring back the cars, buildings, equipment, locomotives, etc. Lego is getting old with the same ole same ole. Trains have so much to offer in a City...
