Lego City has undoubtedly been the greatest influence on me as a Lego theme. However, when I think about a specific set, it would have to be the Lego Creator 31034 Future Flyer.

I was really into space back in 2015. I had already acquired many of the City Space sets that year and from four years earlier. After looking at the Lego Store aisle though, I had my heart set upon the Future Flyer. Unfortunately, I did not end up getting the set that day. Thankfully, I was given the Future Flyer for my birthday. Although I had received many other gifts, the first thing I opened was the Future Flyer.

I cannot tell you how many times I have rebuilt that set into the different models since I first built it on my birthday. I obviously built the robot first as it was the principle model. I imagined it exploring Mars even though the box art places it in a drastically alternate location. However, I ended up enjoying the car even more.

I actually put my sigfig, an astronaut, in the car’s driver’s seat and contemplated the future of transportation. Creator has a significant subtitle, 3 in 1, and I still had to push that concept to the limit.

The plane was the last official model, and actually is my favourite to this day. I once built the plane according to the instructions, only to add bright red highlights to the wings. That was not enough for me. I went on to attach hover engines to the underside. In the end, it looked like a huge muscle craft.

LEGO did have a fourth model commissioned for the Future Flyer as part of its Club Magazines. So I built the strangely awkward space toilet, but have only returned to this monstrosity once.

So, a measly two hundred and thirty-seven-piece set is my all-time favourite. Quite the surprise, even for me, but nonetheless I will always look back at this set with pride. Besides, my social media name outside of Brickset is based on of this simple set, Future Flyer.

Honestly I never knew this one existed.

By in United States,

I got this one in 2014. I only ever built the very nice car as I wanted something for my bruce Wayne to drive. Sadly it isn't a perfect Minifigure scale

Thanks for this article.

By in France,

One of the best 3-in-1 Creator sets. The mech is amazing, and the two vehicles are weirdly slick. I got it during my "dark" ages along with the Red Creatures set, and they greatly contributed to finally breaking free and fully endorsing my Lego passion. Worth every penny!

I only ever had the weird ‘prototype’ of this set, 31008 Thunder Wings. Quite strange how these sets have exactly the same build concepts...

By in Australia,

This must’ve flown under my radar, but this looks excellent. I should find it somewhere.

@Phoenixio I totally agree! I also acquired the Red Creatures and find that set ravishing as well.

@ricecake Thank you for contributing the link! I hope others find it an intuitive application.

Ah yes, this is one of the sets to my one and only visit to a lego store after i left my dark ages. I got this along with 75135, 70781, 70782 and a pick a brick cup. In all honestly i should have bought all the bionicle protectors since they were only 5$ a piece.

This is one of the Creator 3-in-1 sets that, looking back, I recognise as a fantastic parts pack, and regret not buying multiples of. Ah well, I'll just have to remember that and buy another 31086 Futuristic Flyer or two before it retires later this year.

By in Argentina,

This set and 31086 might be the closest we'll ever get to having LEGO Transformers

I loved this set as soon as I saw the pictures honestly.

I was turning 18 in 2015. I asked my parents for two copies of this set so I could build the convertible and the jet, and they delivered. They're still sitting on my shelf. Although I upgraded the car with some of the Speed Racer-era hubcaps.

By in Germany,

This is one of the best creator 3-in-1-sets they made - both model- and partspack-wise. I remember, I have got myself three of these (one still in ovp, I guess).

By in France,

I think it has beautiful and unique aesthetic. Was the 1st set I bought of hands, after recovering from the dark age.

I got this when it came out just for the robot, never built the others.

3 in 1 is my favorite theme as it's the pure essence of LEGO outside of custom MOCs of course, making various different things from the same pile of parts.

This set is no exception with a robot, car and jet.

I don't have this set but I did like last year's 3 in 1 Underwater Robot / Mech set, and also another 2019 set that was very close to name to this "Futuristic Flyer"

I came back to LEGO in 2016.
