Visit the LEGO House basement museum from the comfort of your own home
Posted by Huw,
Here's news of an excellent initiative: The LEGO House is offering virtual tours around the museum in the basement which, for many, is the highlight of a visit to the building.
Over the next 4 months there will be five 1-hour sessions, each covering a different time period in the company's history. They are free to attend but you need to register first.
Trine Nissen, Senior Communication & PR Manager of the House writes "Many LEGO fans from all over the world are not able to visit LEGO House due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 outbreak.
"For all of you we are now opening up the History Collection in the basement of LEGO House to invite you to join the free LEGO House Live Tours where we introduce you to the history of the LEGO Group.
"The LEGO Group started back in 1932 and its history is full of stories and play. To provide an in-depth live tour we offer 5 individual tours based on 5 important chapters of the LEGO Group’s history. The tour will be hosted by a LEGO historian, who is an expert in LEGO history, and you will be able to ask questions during the session via Live Chat. The tour guide will answer your questions live.
We offer several sessions per tour. There are different timings of the sessions to cater for the different time zones you live in. Please be aware that we operate in Billund time (CET). We kindly ask you to convert the timing to your time zone.
Duration of each tour is 60 minutes. It’s free to participate but registration prior to the event is required.

I like this idea. Only wish they’d spread the time slots more as it’s either 1am or 5am for me...
sounds neat. its a clever idea and i'm definitely signing up
Yes. I’ll sign up right away.

Honestly, sometimes LEGO can't win, whatever they do...
It isn't ideal (I'll be bunking some work to make it happen; hope no one needs tech support at the time...) but if the alternative is NO tours at all, I'll take this!
Hopefully they'll record the streams for later viewing.
Being in Australia, this is great. I probably wouldn’t realistically get there is travel WAS allowed anytime soon.
Thank you! Signed up:)
The layout looks a bit boring to me. However if Jadblz has a virtual tour option.. sign me up (https://brickset.com/article/51688/storage-solutions-jadblz)
thanks, signed up!
Probably just listen while working, as not sure that there is enough to look at which needs 5 hours in the basement on a real visit. Also saves reading the various Lego story history books.
Thanks, all signed up!
Can you buy the Lego House Exclusives on that tour? ;-)
I'm very much in a quandry over this. It's a great thing for LEGO to do and will be a boon to those much further away from the LEGO house in particular. However had 2020 been a "normal" year I'd likely have visited the house by now. Though my instinct is to immediately sign-up for all the virtual tours I wonder how much of the enjoyment of an in-person visit I'll dillute if, albeit only one floor, it all feels rather familiar?
As a person who has spent SEVERAL hours in the History Collection already (and plans to spend SEVERAL more in the years to come)... I can't wait!
What a wonderful initiative....
I’ve signed up to all the 13:00 or 13:30 BST tours. It would’ve been nice if there was an option in the evening for Europe because i’ll have to stack this for my lunch hour and won’t be able to do anything else in my working day, but it’s better than the 1am and 5am options in the US!
Love the idea of a recorded version available on demand! My boss says I'm not supposed to be streaming Lego content at work. :(
I still plan on visiting the museum in person some time in the future (not this year), so this will be a nice preview to hold me over (assuming I get picked).
This sounds excellent, thanks for letting us know - signed up!
Wish they would offer a replay of the tours

Yeah. Those times are not ideal for many in the U.S., unfortunately.
did others who signed up get a confirmation email? signed up to all but didn't receive an email to confirm it went through

As far as I know everyone should be picked, there should be no limits. In theory, at least, I have no idea what will happen if thousands of people register!

I signed up yesterday and started receiving invitations today, I think they're going through the list manually.
Thanks for posting!
For those of us on Eastern time, 8 am ins't that bad ... (just have to make sure the coffee is ready!)
I have also signed-up yesterday and received the 5 invitations. The last one for 1st of Sept at 9.30 AM CEST (Billund time), not 10.00.
Even without coronavirus I'd struggle to get to Billund to see the museum, so this is a great opportunity.
So, even if these were at unsociable times for me (admittedly, they're not) would I get up in the middle of the night, just for the privilege? Or whinge online? No, definitely the former.
Signed up! Thanks for the news article Huw. This site is great.
This can be a great collection for DVD/Blue-Ray owners....
I've always wanted to visit the LEGO House but couldn't never afford/have the time to go. Guess I've got no excuse now!
@bananaworld:
The times don't bother me so much if they were at least on the weekends. I'll be sleeping during the early timeslots, and working during the "late" ones.
@The_Rancor:
1am and 5am is just the west coast. The first four are 4am and 8am on Thursdays in the east, and the last one is 3:30am and 7:30 am on Tuesday. Remember, the contiguous 48 states span four time zones. Alaska spans another two (and shares one of them with Hawaii).
@mkrey:
It's worth noting that they change the exhibits out regularly, so if you delay your in-person trip long enough, you might see entirely different content.

Yeah screws over anyone living in the West Coast US.
For those complaining about the timeslots: keep in mind that this is being done by a Lego House employee in THEIR working hours.
This is fantastic - signed up !
Shocked as someone living in Australia I normally have to get up at 3:00am to enjoy anything in the UK or the US. You get used to if you want it bad enough.
